SMART MOVE!

Just in time for Thanksgiving, so that people can
show off their iPhones to friends and relatives (free marketing for Apple).

Please, just give me Cut & Paste and less crashing in Safari and I'll be happy.

What is the problem with cut & paste?

I do lots of emailing during the day and I post to blogs. I need frigging cut and paste! Surely even people at Apple need cut and paste.

Insert complaints about lack of copy and paste......

.....

............

now.

insert sounds of apple engineers complaining about the customers demanding copy and paste. the logical way to implement copy and paste would be to highlight something by holding your finger and dragging, but that's already being used by the function that allows you to move the cursor when you screw up. since it's a touch screen, it's not an easy problem to create a new function to highlight, then choose to copy/cut and paste that both a) doesn't interfere with existing touch screen functions and b) is easy to use. chill, it's on the way.

also, in response to the argument that other smartphones have that feature, it's a lot easier to implement a copy and paste function if you have a lot of buttons than if you have a touch screen.

EDIT: just thought of a way they could make it happen. have a button in one corner that switches the current interface from text input to a copy and paste. i.e., inputting text is optional, but you can drag to highlight and you have buttons for copying and pasting.

my safari never crashes... Ever... Is it really a big problem for a lot of you?

And I Agree with the post saying his original iPhone was his best purchase ever. Same here... It's really exceeded expectations, an I expected a lot.

Well I honestly thought that Apple was going to make this one of the Macworld 2008 announcements. That could still be the case. After all this is MacRUMORS
If it does come out in the next handful of days, I wonder if we will be blown away at Macworld. I kinda hope that the rumor community misses the mark because there is nothing greater than a total awesome surprise device from Apple.

They could...
a)have a toggle button that devs can use as well that switches between the magnifying glass and copy/paste. This would go in the necessary copy/paste bar on the top or bottom of your screen.
b)get rid of the magnifying glass, though I hope they don't do that because it's invaluable.

I agree with those who aren't complaining about updates to an extent... sure we get more updates than other smartphones, but that's because
a) they're needed for stability and standard features,
b) the iphone is a lot more capable than most smartphones, therefore it should be treated differently.
Still... it's not like apple is just giving us a product and forgetting about it. They do still want our business.

what about copy and paste? and push notifications, its been 2 months since it was supposed to come out. and please please bring video recording.

all i want is sideways texting, please! and apple why didnt you just put landscape mail into the os? because it can be done, people in the app store can, so why cant you so i dont have to keep switching apps.

Really guys all this carping about a dead technology (MMS) that never was on iPhone is nothing but BS. MMS was never advertised or even suggested that it was coming to the phone. People need to let this crap and expensive service go as nobody with a grasp of modern technology really gives a damn about it.

I don't care about it that much either, but it'd be nice. Dead technology? I don't think so. Wouldn't SMS be dead too? Thats pretty old. Why not email everyone? Oh wait. Because most phones don't do email.

I dont receive that many pix that MMS is a huge priority, but when my friends ask if they can send me a pic and I say no you have to email it to me, i always get "wait what? my POS phone that was $9.99 can do that and your iphone can't?!!? you paid how much for that?! thats stupid!" MMS would be nice if not just to eliminate those comments

Not to get embroiled in this argument or anything, but RIM didn't have any trouble implementing system-wide copy and paste into their newly announced Blackberry Storm.
So whats so hard with Apple and the iPhone?

My thinking is that it's not they 'CANT' do it ... it's that they want to do it 'DIFFERENTLY' to everyone else. Think different, and all that jazz?

It's such a wanted feature, they must know it is by now. I think the delay is, it could (potentially) revolutionize the way the market uses C&P.
Think about it ... they come up with a 'wowzah' way to copy and paste on a touchscreen device, and everyone else tries to follow suit.
It's a defining feature. Something which they should take their time over.

So think of the delay as 'thinking' time, rather than 'We at Apple are not bothered about C&P'.

My 2p

As for Push notifications ...well ...

I don't understand why people does'nt request a feature that is missing to me so much.

A button "Mark as all read" for the email. If I already read my email on my computer, all those email are unread in my iPhone. I need to select one at the time to mark them as read. When you receive 50 email per day it's very annoying. I know mobile me or exchange update that but I don't need to be sync.

Just a "mark as all read" button, it's easy to do, no?

Everybody want copy and paste or MMS but what about that button "mark as all read" ?

Now I got 300 email unread on my phone :confused::confused::mad:

Please tell me this firmware will reverse the autoplay podcast "feature" that was added...it would be understandable if the podcasts were listed with older shows first, but why the hell would I want older podcast episodes to play automatically when I finish one?? I guess it's less of an issue if you only ever listen to one podcast at a time, but then the feature would be useless altogether. Apple goofed on this one.

I love my iPhone, but why can't Apple give us copy / paste??!!? It's absence almost feels deliberate at this point. WTF?

MMS??!?

I'm sure it was deliberate. It isn't very high on the priority list.

It will be in the next generation iPhone and will not be an update for existing iPhones so that they can sell more.

I've had my iPhone from the first day they were released and I have yet to find a situation that I need copy & paste. :p

great, but i'm surprised no one cares about multiple email attachments or the ability to add images/files when you reply to e-mail messages

i'd also like to see picture messaging and of course copy/paste, but i won't hold me breath.

That's modal. Apple HIG's generally try not to use modal interfaces, as they tend to cause people who have developed habits and aren't paying attention (that's most people) to screw up.

All I want from the iPhone is better RECEPTION on 3G!!
The 3G reception is crap indoors and my calls drop even outdoors. I'm in NYC, isn't AT&T suppose to have great coverage here? WHATA F? Is that too much to ask? And now my phone is slow to a crawl because I have a bunch of apps installed?? APPLE/ATT WE NEED BETTER RECEPTION & STABILITY!! FIX THOSE BEFORE U ADD ANYMORE CRAP!! AND FIX THE DAMN BROWSER ALREADY!! Damn thing keeps closing on me!! I want a 3rd party browser, why no firefox or Opera?

P.S.
Why does my iPhone show 4-5 bars indoors and when I try to make a call, It drops the call and gives me the "Call Failed" screen?
Fix the damn bars and stop pretending the phone has reception when in reality it doesn't!!

It is a daily, no hourly problem - really frustrating

Yes it is a huge problem. Strangely I don't have a lot of third pArty software installed either. I sometimes think the problem is related E-Mail push.

In any event way to many crashes. Everything else is fairly stable though.

And I Agree with the post saying his original iPhone was his best purchase ever. Same here... It's really exceeded expectations, an I expected a lot.

I certainly like my iPhone. It is just that the core needs lots of improvements. Safari is number one but there are bugs else where.
