This is actually a great point.....

This would only give everyone something else to complain about

how soon after we receive an update with push notification do you think we would see a thread with the following title

iPhone battery life sucks

do you not receive texts? How about phone calls? Your antenna is on all the time anyway. The push system would work a la SMS. it only picks up data when it is told by the network and then it is *pushed*. The real waste of battery is when the phone checks every 15, 30, 60 mins for data and possibly not find any.

What would it take to actually get Apple to start adding these features? Do we need to start writing the code ourselves and submitting it to them? There must be a way to get it going and getting it done!

Ideas people! I'm tired of sitting around and waiting.

I hope all of you actually tell apple of your wants and concerns. Use the feedback link in my sig and tell *them* what you think.

I just heard that the BlackBerry Storm is coming out on November 21st... hmm... Coincidence or good timing?

What's fascinating is that 222 of those 461 emoji are actually different icons for the emotion best known as "where is my cut and paste?", running the gamut from indignant to entitled to resigned to ironic. That's more than one for each of the people who have complained about no cut and paste in this thread so far!

True story!

Seriously, though - I can see cut and paste as important, but it's not a deal breaker for me at least. I don't find myself missing it, although I can see how I'd use it all the time once it shows up. Apparently it's either tricky to implement because of the UI or they're holding off for business reasons.

The lack of emoji, on the other hand, is apparently a serious deal breaker in Japan since sending messages without one is taken as very impolite. If that's really the case, including them is a no-brainer.

I don't give a toss about anything on this list. Not one. I just want copy n' paste, and MMS. Is that really too much to ask?!

Other users in the forums say, "insert complaints about not having C n' P and MMS" like it's a drudge to wade through the wails of anguish from the collective - we keep saying these things BECAUSE THESE ARE THE THINGS WE FRIGGIN' WANT!

And before anyone says it, I do use the feedback site. Frequently. Why doesn't Apple listen to its users? <sigh> :(

2.2 who cares

25 Billion Dollar surplus, and in two years, you can't add these things? Appalling.

I've owned an iPhone1G/3G for 17 months and through dozens of updates I have never been able to cut an item on one screen and paste it elsewhere. Meanwhile you sit on $25 Billion in reserves and countless brilliant engineers. Give something back!

I received an email with a phone number for Saudi Arabia. Please try going to the home screen, opening contacts, locating a contact, adding a 13-digit number, remembering to save. The human brain cannot accomplish this. I had to switch between Contacts and Mail three times!

Thank you for your consideration.

This was my tempered 15th time I've done this since June 29, 2007!

and we MUST GET VIDEO!!!

Just about every other phone has it

And the iPhone does too IF you JAILBREAK IT and KILL THE WARRANTY

This as well as the previous mentioned items are a MUST HAVE that NEED to be addressed right away

So let me get this, you bought the phone without all the features you want and then complain when Apple doesn't add those features, that's real brilliant.

NO...THAT is why I am NOT yet getting it

I want to but NOT until it has ALL the needed features

That's dumb... you could be waiting forever. Just get it and enjoy the current features on it. It's still a very useful phone. Does the iPod have all the features of every other mp3 player on the market? No it doesn't... but, people still buy it and love it.

Someone else that agrees with me..... Thank you!

And to be honest half of these people complaining are only doing so to follow suit. Most of the people complaining about C&P probably wouldn't ever use it!

:apple:I LOVE MY Iphone 3G:apple: <-------- i think I might use this as my signature from now on!

copy & paste? who care? new update is welcome whatsoever. what's the deal about P&C anyway? there is more important stuff we need like flash. I think that flash is more important than stupid copy & paste.

I find it interesting that the 2.2 OS is coming out this Friday, the same day as the BlackBerry Storm. This would have been a PERFECT time to come out with push notifications, copy & paste and Adobe Flash!

Instead, we are getting Google Street View, bus schedules, over-the-air podcast downloads, new Google bar in Safari, built-in location sharing through maps and line-in access through the headphone jack.

I'm not counting on any surprises in the OS 2.2 this Friday...

Do you think its a money thing? Is Apple sitting on it cause they are trying to come up with a clever way to make more money? Who here would pay for an update if it gave you the features you wanted??

I pay for updates every month when my AT&T bill gets paid. I want cut and paste and flash and tethering without getting raped.

I have yet to figure out the wanting of copy and paste. I dont get it
I would really like google street view and....thats it really. maby a video camera but cycorder has got me covered

Come on copy and paste.
I also hope the crashes get fixed, again.

Well they're probably going to charge iPod touch users like me something like $20 to get an update for features that should already be there.

Wtf

Ok, I am just not getting it so I hope someone can "enlighten" me and cure my ignorance.

Why the hell is copy & paste so damn important? I have had an iPhone since day 1 and there have maybe been half a dozen times where I thought 'Gee, copy and paste would be helpful here'.

What am I not getting? What kind of documentation editing are you all doing that you require a copy and past feature? Doesn't a lot of the built in functionality such as the auto-dialing of phone numbers, auto-emailing, safari copy etc accomplish a significant portion of the copy and paste needs on a smart phone?

I for 1 don't give a crap about copy and paste or a lame technology such as MMS (hmmm don't most phones have email these days? Doesn't that blow away SMS?....)

Bluetooth stereo headphones I can see, that would be cool.

As far as background apps, ask any G1 phone holder how he feels about background apps and 4 hours of batter life (not use, just 4 hours due to dumb ass programmers hitting the GPS every 5 seconds in the background for no good reason ..)

Regarding flash - does anyone have ANY idea how CPU intensive that crappy technology is? You all complain about battery life and Safari stability yet you want to embed that albatross in the core of the device. Just because a lot of sites leverage Flash, does not make it something that should be supported. Personally, Silver Light is a far more interesting technology. Flash will die soon especially as they try to "push the limits" and more and more platforms (including some NetBooks) can't handle it.

Bottom line in my opinion is that Apple has done a great job focusing efforts on a rich feature set that satisfies the needs of MOST users. They have added an incredible amount of features to the platform (which by the way is so far ahead from a platform standpoint) yet everyone focuses on what's missing.

Enjoy your iPhones people, stop focusing on what you feel is missing. I guarantee, not everyone feels how you feel and as a matter of fact, most don't. (How else do you sell 10 million units!!)

Pretty much on target, but...

Poor programming is no excuse to keep background apps or tasks off iPhone. In fact it is no excuse at all. Some of our needs are so minor in computational requirements that the user wouldn't notice at all. In any case any user with half a brain would only load processor intensive back ground apps only when absolutely needed. This is all about a call for user flexibility in how he uses his device. The reality is push, if it ever does come, won't cover all user needs. Giving the OS that flexibility would have zero impact on users that don't use back ground apps.

I hope Apple can resist the call for flash. More so I just wish it would go away.

Yes I agree great platform but one that can get much better.

Yep enjoy away. But let's not be short sighted. The thing is we are only on hardware revision #1 with the Touch devices for the most part. The potential up side in both hardware and software is huge.

The problem is that there is A LOT of poor programming out there and if people are complaining about the wait time to get an app on the app store now, just wait until a full code review is required to ensure that applications are not unknowingly sitting in the background eating up battery. I completely understand where you are coming from on this one but the problem in my opinion is that this opens a HUGE door for Apps to cripple a phone. We have the nice ability now to simply close the app and ensure it "goes away" (for the most part anyway). Apple would need to implement some background job daemon to monitor resource utilization on an app by app basis when running in the background to ensure that "runaway" processes do not completely drain the batter in 1 hour and leave users without the most important aspect of this device .... the phone.

I am not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, I just really want Apple to deliver a quality solution (and no, push is NOT it although it does help in a few cases) and take a lesson learned from Android and to not overestimate the coding skills of the masses (as a Software Development Manager at a 14,000 person Software Company that will remain nameless I fully appreciate this fact ...)

I fully appreciate the revolutionary aspect of the device and the platform and it's ultimate potential to change A LOT of things. Apple needs to move forward carefully however to avoid significant "black marks" that could taint any possible destroy any of that potential.

Video

Where is the video record option. I don't see why that can't be included in one of the updates. There is an app that can be downloaded on a jail broken phone, but nothing in the app store that I can find.

I hope they reinstate links from apps to the app store (they currently are broken). I realize it doesn't matter much from a consumer perspective, but for certain classes of business (such as publishers) it's a pain not being able to link direct to the app store off the iPhone browser from your websites. :(
