1) Copy & PasteFor the 100th, who is typing such novels on the iPhone, then realizing they're in the wrong app!!?!?!

13) Profiles, that store settings for different locations I might be (Home, the office, parents house, On the go, Airport, etc...)Good idea, but multiple profiles usually suggest multiple users, which cannot be encouraged

1. Or you looked up an address in Safari and need to text it to someone... plenty of every day uses for copy-pase

13. Or it suggests a person who uses their phone in more than one location and finds it annoying to flip through multiple settings menus.

I think a great idea would be to implement vertical page-scrolling from the springboard that takes you to a customizable settings screen. You can set which setting show up on the page (eg., brightness, Wifi, etc.)... gives much easier access to frequently-used settings than going through the settings application

is there any clue when iphone's calendar will be in the same color as displayed on iCal? I really need that.

A reminder.

I haven't been following this thread in depth but you reminded me of something very important that should be added. That is the ability to either save or E-Mail web pages.

The reasoning is similar to yours and involves web generated data. Think online reservation confirmations and the like. Often it is very difficult to come up with the data generated if it is lost. Being able to save and recall web pages would be very useful. Frankly it could prevent a lot of grief and make devices like iPhone even more useful for people on the go.

As it is now anything I might have to do on the web that needs to be documented ends up being done on the laptop. That so that I can have a reference doc on disk or printed out. It is not just reservation numbers either, but things like schedules, costs and the like that you might not be able to get to when needed.

Ah... Sort of like writing the HTML Archive to the iPhone's SSD so you can open the page later offline? You know what would be cool? Being able to save web pages as PDFs and have the PDFs placed in a bookmark folder in Safari. Then they could be viewed offline or emailed to people if you wish... that would rock!

You can email webpages. while on the page hit the plus key and it says email link to this page.

1) Copy & PasteFor the 100th, who is typing such novels on the iPhone, then realizing they're in the wrong app!!?!?!
I've never actually typed information in the wrong app, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. But I do have a constant need to copy information from one place to another, or duplicate information across apps on a daily basis

2) MMS (Send and receive) While its completely unnecessary due to a thing called e-mail, it is a rather embarrassing omission by Apple
I personally have no need to send MMS messages, but I do have friends and family that try to send me MMS messages from their phones, and Email just isn't an option for them. I would like to be able to see what they have to send me. I agree that Email would be the preferred method, but by this logic why do we need text messaging at all, we should just use email for everything.

3) I think text messages should backup to iChat transcripts Um, no. SMS is SMS, not iChat. iChat backs up to iChat transcripts. Several SMS backup tools on Cydia.
Maybe iChat isn't the place, but Apple sure makes the text messages look like iChat, and I would like to see a nice integrated solution from Apple that allows me to have an archive of conversations that happen, iChat seemed to me to make sense to be that place since text messaging often gets used much like iChat. (text conversations)

6) better integration/synching with Google Cal. and Gmail contacts Since this is the Apple phone, not the Google phone, I think this is much further down the pike
Just a wish list item of mine, I know it's not a Google Phone, but Google is where I keep my Cal, contacts, email, etc.. so it would sure be nice if I could better sync with that. I doubt I'm alone on this.

7) I should be able to browse the iTunes store when not on WiFi, even if I can't download it, I want to add it to a shopping cart for when I get home Should have been day 1, no question. 10 mb limit for purchasing music would be no problem. Possibly because they want you to buy albums, not just songs?
I would be okay with a shopping cart mentality, where I don't download the songs until I get to WiFi or Sync with iTunes. :) and I think they would get a lot more impulse purchases.

8) Landscape keyboard throughout the system Usefulness highly debatable But would be a nice option, different people use devices a bit different, and this may help some of us.

9) System wide search (like spotlight for the iphone) Should have been day 1, no question. Try QuickGold on Cydia. Apple needs to buy it.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give those a try, it is a bummer that Apple didn't include it though.

10) Support for an external (bluetooth) keyboard Meh, excessive.
It may seem excessive, but honestly there are a lot of times when I could leave my laptop at home if I could type emails and such. a small collapsible keyboard would save me space and allow me to be more mobile.

11) Text Messages should be treated a bit more like emails (for example: have a "drafts" option so I can type a text, save what I've done so far and send later) Should have been day 1, no question. Try biteSMS on Cydia Thanks again for the suggestions. I'll have to give them a try when I get a chance.

12) Anyone else get some pretty bad latency from time to time from when I send a text message and the other person receives it, or vice versa ?
I get this fairly often and if possible would like it fixed. Yes and you can thank ATT Bummer, maybe someday Verizon will be an option ? I hope.

13) Profiles, that store settings for different locations I might be (Home, the office, parents house, On the go, Airport, etc...)Good idea, but multiple profiles usually suggest multiple users, which cannot be encouraged
Interesting, I had never thought of it as a way for multiple people to use my phone, but I can see that. But truthfully I am very protective of my phone, I don't just hand it to anyone to use, being able to switch profiles (or switch location) would be helpful. Everything from wireless settings, to screen brightness, etc...

And another feature request ! :)
14) The ability to reverse how the auto word replace works. So you tap the word for it to drop it in, rather than tap it to go away.

Edit: Blah, sorry I was in a rush and messed up how I did the quote, and my response to each item, and don't have time to fix it. Sorry about that.

No, cause then you'd just re-load the page... thus loosing all the information. We're talking about receipts and other types of web pages that you'd want to save an archive of... not saving a link to it. What if the page goes offline? A link won't help you then will it?

Maybe instead of copy/paste, we'll just get cut? Good thing I don't run things over there because I'd get a laugh at putting that out there.

I'm in the boat with those simply happy to keep getting updates that increase stability and functionality. Love my iPhone, but I too would like Safari to stop crashing when monitoring my fantasy football losing.

Also, I bet Steve's 64 gig iPhone has copy paste ;)

Would be good, but for now just take a screenshot of the webpage and then you've got the tracking code etc in your photos folder to refer back to. Thats what I do at the moment for things like this, but yes, the way it refreshes the page so often even when ive just gone back to it after a few mins is quite annoying!

and so where is VIDEO & Cut and paste & pictures in messages???

I’d love to get an iphone and would leave Verizon if they get it working the way other phones have done for years now:(

What would it take to actually get Apple to start adding these features? Do we need to start writing the code ourselves and submitting it to them? There must be a way to get it going and getting it done!

Ideas people! I'm tired of sitting around and waiting.

Exactly. Got to have something to keep people paing for the next new model. Much easier with the computers as they can keep visibly improving performance; not so easy when you can only run one thing at a time anyway!

Either the next model or the one after will probably improve the camera and offer video recording and video calling. After everyone has waited a few more years for copy & paste, it might be enough to justify a new model in and of itself ;).

As for features in the short term, I would actually quite like the new iPod Nano's 'shake to shuffle' feature; at the moment if what I'm listening to on the iPhone finishes, I have to turn it on and go at least three taps to shuffle all songs, and I would rather not have 'Songs' on the bottom bar anyway. If I could just shake the thing to shuffle all, even while it was locked, it would be most useful!

A lot of crying on this thread. I'm with most of u, but some requests r downright whining. Like this one... Shake to shuffle. Will never be on the iPhone. If they wanted it on it, it wouldve come out when they revamped the nano. But they didn't. Why would you buy a nano then? What if you were in a game with vibe control or in face book where shaking refreshes the screen AND you were listening to music? Uh oh! Waaahh! Apple you have to figure this out!

Millions of people, which essentially you mean like .0002% of the world? Seriously though, emoji are traditional to Japanese mobile devices, and it is obvious that this iPhone update is not catered towards people looking for real results. I mean, what would you rather have?

The ability to cut and paste your text..... or the ability to send a small blue face with big eyes to your friend through sms notating how surprised you are at how useless 2.2 will be.

If you want to sell a 10 million more phones in japan then the iPhone needs emoji :D sounds like a good "business" decision to me.

you got it!

spas has got the whole point here, what happens when you go off line. Some people dismiss this but I'm out of contact quite often. Be it in the bowls of the plant, in an Airplane or just out of range.

Someone else mentioned saving as an image which I guess is possible bit the natural place for this is Safari. As a work around I might try it.

Let’s NOT forget shooting VIDEO on a phone that does NOT need to be Jail-Broke to do it:D

I was told by Apple support that this is a problem with the AT&T network (referring to the fact that there is no MMS)

Wow they sure go you off the phone easily! LOL

So if it's a problem with AT&T its also a problem with;

Rogers in Canada
O2 in the UK
Vodaphone in Australia

and every other network provider through out the world that carry's the iPhone

Simple truth is they haven't built in that functionality because they feel that with the use of email to send pictures there is no need to provide MMS, MMS which actually costs more money to send than an email with a picture attached over 3G might I add.

Everyone who I would send a picture to has a smart phone (iPhone, RIM, HTC etc.) so they have access to email so MMS is no big deal to me. for all those who are STILL crying about it I say again SELL YOUR iPhone AND GET A BLACKBERRY!!!!!.

I love my iPhone if I didn't like the functionality it had when I bought it 3G ver 2.1 I wouldn't have bought it. Any new firmware updates are a bonus for me. :apple:
