Things I like:
* Google street view
* Google walking directions (oh please, oh please!)
* Auto-correct (but being able to turn it off is nice for those crazy perfect typists)

Finally, Apple has also addressed one common request within the iPhone's Keyboard settings, allowing users to disable the iPhone's auto-correction.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, although being able to edit the dictionary other than the 3 repeated rejections would be great. Just editing about a dozen of common words would really increase my typing speed.

As for google maps street view, it's a neat feature but not that useful. But since android has it, I guess why not?

Does sound good, it is a pity however that Apple need a rival phone to be launched and the threat of one from Nokia before they release what people are after.

I theorize then that with the release of the Nokia rival to the iPhone that we shall begin to see more and more features being added.

Although knowing modern Apple, we iPhone users will still lack many basic features.

I'm so glad apple finally sees how important japanese smiley faces are!

copy.paste.?

As I said before, like many others: copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, copy paste... Please.

Just think how much longer that would have taken you to type on an iPhone ;)

ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Boring.
I've given up hope of any meaningful update. This update is a waste of time, and there is really no hope. Complete waste of time.

What's wrong with you? This update isn't quite a total waste of time as you so callously put it!

Any addition with respect to functionality is a bonus - and if there are bug fixes thrown in for the mix then even better...

Relax and enjoy the show!

Hmmm... I don't want autocorrection off - I just want it to stop converting UK into I'm!

Try putting a .co.uk (.co.I'm) email in when signing in to Facebook, etc and you'll see what I mean!

No copy and paste? :D

Google Street View will be nice, as long as it's not so painfully slow as the desktop version... It is good, however, to see the effect of competition starting to push Apple into implementing the stuff we want.

MMS would be nice.

Oh hang on, we don't need that because we can email photos. That means Apple will be dropping SMS from the next release because we obviously don't need that because we can simply email text messages to each other.

im not that bothered by it, but my girlfriend gets really rattled by this behavior of the iphone.

my girlfriend is on the verge of beating me when i mean to type 'ur' and it changes the word to 'it'!

'Don't refer to me as IT!'

Will 2.2 have the ability to automatically filter out people asking for copy and paste, and MMS? That would be great!!!!

These updates are fine and all.... but what about PUSH Gmail?? That'll be great if google and apple can work something out asap. I don't want to pay for MobileMe, and Y! mail is crap.

I take advantage of auto-correct too often for me to turn it off, but I wish there were times when I could change some of the dictionary words.

Like with "lol". Every time I type "lol" in it comes out as LOL. It might just be me but in the middle of a sentence a large LOL sticks out. "lol really?" comes out to "LOL really?" in the same vein as "LOL OMG KTHXBYE". I've always hit the "x" and typed it out in lowercase, but the iPhone never remembers.

Maybe it's just me...

You're not alone :(

thank you apple for listening to our concerns about the autocorrection. As a med student who abbreviates everything, this "feature" has pretty much made note taking a total chore.

Wife will LOVE auto-correct off. Constantly writing e-mails in both english and portuguese - auto-correct disrupted the efficiency of portuguese e-mails.

This reactions are part of the problem

This is why Apple can keep on going with holding basic features and make a fuzz when they release them, if they release them at all.

How many people where asking for the Japanese smilies thing? other than the Japanese? How useful is it?

What about Google street view? It is cool and Android is showing it off, but I don't think people were anxiously waiting for it.

I have read people requesting Turning Auto-correction off, Edit dictionary, Copy/Paste, All apps Landscape Support, Video Camera support, ToDo/Notes sync, background notification, MMS, etc. which all seem very valid and extremely useful requests. Out of those, one is being addressed and we should be grateful and keep dancing or enjoying the show? I think it is OK if you want to dance to celebrate these fabulous new features. But it is OK too, to not feel impressed or blown away by them.

I hope Apple implants the Google walking directions thing. It would be perfect for the iPhone, especially being in a city.

And the public-transit maps, as well; I've wanted to know alternate routes whenever I miss a connection. Being able to get public-transit directions from Current Location to whereever would be very nice.

I didn't think the japanese were waiting for extra smileys, I thought they were all already using devices that had more uses.
