hm. i've never considered using the iPhone without auto-correction. it's always been a feature in that without tactile feedback it's so easy to mess up typing on a touchscreen. sure, it does suck whenever you have to touch the little 'x' to bypass a correction but almost every sentence i type is dependent on at least one auto-corrected word.

many will believe that streetview would be almost as fluid as a 3D view on a garmin. it wouldn't really help in that respect though. for instance, checkout how this guy uses his wii to simulate walking in tokyo. streetview will be nice, but it would probably just be useful for reference. though i do like the idea of it on the iPhone. remember watching that android demo where everyone ooh'ed and ahhed from streetview integration?

So, how come when the Japanese bitch n' moan about something as trivial as this, they get it. But, when we do the same thing (for push, GPS, c/p, MMS), we don't get it.

Because trivial also means easy to implement. Also, we got GPS and push is probably coming with 2.2 as well.

I'd really like to see Apple implement folders or something... having so many pages of Apps gets tiring after a while. If they don't wanna do folders, at least they could make it so when you tap the menubar, it scrolls to the first page (where all the useful stuff is). I hate scrolling even through 3 pages.

Tapping the blank spot between dock and last row of apps on the left or right swipes to the next or previous page (depending on which side you hit of course). It's slightly quicker (but not as cool :p )

I take advantage of auto-correct too often for me to turn it off, but I wish there were times when I could change some of the dictionary words.

Like with "lol". Every time I type "lol" in it comes out as LOL. It might just be me but in the middle of a sentence a large LOL sticks out. "lol really?" comes out to "LOL really?" in the same vein as "LOL OMG KTHXBYE". I've always hit the "x" and typed it out in lowercase, but the iPhone never remembers.

Maybe it's just me...

i completley agree with you i hate when it does LOL instead of lol. but i dont think i could live without the auto correction.....

I'm quite surprised that there have been few complaints about the fact that iCal's own 'Birthdays' calendar can't be seen on the iPhone using MobileMe. That's one thing I'd love to have fixed.

Also, how about syncing up some other fields in the contacts database on the iPhone like spouse, child, relationship?

Furthermore, have you ever gotten a MMS from someone else and received AT&T's SMS telling you to go to their website to retrieve it? This is the perfect example of the need to either give us MMS or copy paste. It's a PITA to try to remember the login and password for AT&T's stupid MMS notification. Flipping back and forth and then having Safari crash on you.......

**Sigh**

Great... But When is Push, MMS, Copy-Paste, and Flash
Coming To the Iphone?
It's amazing what Apple has done;
by releasing a couple features the phone should already have
people go crazy!
Its been over a year since Iphone has been on the market
and it still lacks basic features..I'm dissapointed.

I'm pretty sure that, for what ever reason, Mr. Jobs doesn't want cut/paste on the iPhone. Otherwise, I believe it would have been added by now.

However, I still believe that MMS should be implemented. While not every other phone has (or needs) cut/paste, virtually every other phone does have MMS, and to leave out what is considered a "basic" feature doesn't do Apple any good. Though, since its been this long, I'm wondering if AT&T doesn't have something to do with the lack of MMS.

I am glad. That auto correct feature is more of a pain in my ass then it is a helper. I am in the army and use a lot of abbreviations which can be very annoying to type in because iphone keeps on trying to correct half my statements.

I am still missing something as simple as MMS. Also copy and paste would be nice.

I wish they would add a stylette to write in notes with my own handwriting. =) I do a lot of note taking especially since I am in the medical field and sometimes writing would be easier.

Anyone who thinks that copy/paste is trivial to implement needs to **** because they've NEVER developed a piece of software as complicated as Apple's software engineers have.

Nice Work Apple

Nice to see Apple well on the way to providing more updates to this amazing phone.

On the other hand, it's sad to see so many people still whining; waaaaah no MMS (MMS is not coming, it's old tech -fagetabout it). Waaaaah no copy/paste (it won't get here any quicker for your whining) Waaaah, no video - so what, it's not a great camera anyway - really just good for snapshots. Waaaaah!

Really, it gets old.

What about all the amazing functionality? I really feel sorry for the people that focus on the things they perceive that are missing - they totally lose the joy of appreciating the wonderful gadget they have.

Nice work Apple - keep the updates coming. Thank you.

It's unbelievable that we're 15+ months into the iPhone world and Apple still hasn't implemented copy/paste. Aren't they tired of people griping about this? Aren't they sick of every reviewer pointing this weakness out? It's embarrassing. Just fix it already. What, are they planning to save this feature until 3.0? Ludicrous.

Yup it is, for all the great features to come we were promised, almost two years later and we still haven't gotten the basic ones. Life goes on, but it's a real bugger (ie impossible) when you want to forward a SMS to someone and it's quite frankly embarrassing that you can't forward a contact. I'm just glad that I don't get asked to do it, very often as it's pretty embarrassing, when I say, "yeah hold on, let me read it all to you!"

The complaints that I am reading here are the very same reasons I left the iPhone behind and went back to the BlackBerry:

  1. I have copy and paste.
  2. I have MMS.
  3. I have the latest version of Google Maps with all the latest features, some of which it looks like the iPhone won't be getting.
  4. I have an actual spell check.
  5. I can sync notes.
  6. I can sync tasks, including recurring tasks.
  7. I have a video camera.
  8. I can edit my auto-correction list.
  9. I can edit my spell check dictionary.

Those, and the following, actually:
  1. I can dial a number from the home screen without having to do anything but start dialing.
  2. I can dial by letter or by number (or both), as in 1-800-SUNTRUST, for example.
  3. I have a removable/replaceable battery.
  4. I have removable/upgradable memory.
  5. I have voice dialing.
  6. I have the ability to add Garmin software to my BlackBerry for true turn-by-turn spoken direction GPS navigation.
  7. I have the ability to have the phone set itself for vibrate when in the holster, and tone when out of the holster.
  8. Auto-view new e-mails, MMS, SMS, RSS, Facebook notices, etc. when I remove the BlackBerry from its holster.
  9. Auto-hangup calls when placing the BlackBerry in its holster.
  10. I can forward contact details via e-mail as an attachment.

I really like the idea of the iPhone, but it was so sorely lacking in basic functions when compared to virtually every other phone out today, that I couldn't stand using it any more. Well, that, and the fact that it would lock up on me at just the wrong times (critical situations) when trying to do something as trivial as make or receive a phone call.

I keep track of the iPhone's progress because I still am interested in it, but seeing these updates just makes me laugh. There really isn't anything big, and yet so many people are jumping for joy. There are a few here, though, that recognize that Apple still hasn't implemented missing basic features, and that Apple, once again, has missed a self-imposed deadline.

Oh, and as far as Apple's claim that copy and paste isn't easy to implement, maybe they can explain why RIM was able to include copy and paste on their touch screen device, and seeing the explanation of how it works is so basic it's embarrassing that Apple hasn't included that function on the iPhone.

Are there features I miss? Sure. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said otherwise. I miss the excellent internet browser on the iPhone. I miss the excellent SMS layout on the iPhone.

That's all I miss.

Maybe Apple will get it right eventually, but not anytime soon at this pace.

So, how come when the Japanese bitch n' moan about something as trivial as this, they get it. But, when we do the same thing (for push, GPS, c/p, MMS), we don't get it.

Because, Japanese are not only "bitch n'moan", they are simply not buying the iphone. This is hurting Apple. They had big plans for the Japanese market (based on the success of the ubiquitous ipod) and no one is biting. I saw one report that said iphone sales in Japan were a tiny fraction of what Apple had predicted and hoped for. (based on Softbank figures)

The emoji was just one of the reasons why nobody is buying the iphone. There are others but this might persuade some to get an iphone (and not just as a second phone!). It will also stop some of the negative press about the iphone in Japan.

When you non-Japanese "bitch n'moan", it doesn't mean so much to Apple. A lot of the people complaining here have already bought the iphone. It is not a show-stopping event. Apple will get round to your concerns when they can.

The Japanese have voted with their wallet. This is simply a rational business decision.

sorry ....

The iPhone is a phone of extremes, somethings are bloody brilliant and somethings are a joke, the sad thing is that all it's stuipid downfalls (and I don't mean MMS) are easilly rectified but for some reason, Apple haven't bothered.

And regarding the camera, have you tried using it as a video camera? Cycorder on the jailbreak actually puts out some pretty decent video for a phone (and I use it pretty often!). Apple just can't be bothered to implement it.

i want sms forwards, delivery report, delete individual sms & copy paste pls

and most importantly make safari stable.....its crashing way too much

I think you may be wrong there.

Mine has learnt 'luv', 'xoxox' and a few others. And other users seem to be learning too.

Did you think no for any particular reason or just a guess?

While I'm here, does anyone else get annoyed about the fact that the phone knows when you hit the wrong key but doesn't have a standard spell-check?

Mine doesn't. I just tested by making up a word "galp" and rejecting their suggestion of "hall" and some other stuff, and if I delete the word and retype it it keeps suggesting "hall".

Someone please make an app that hooks the iphone accelorometer with google street view so I an 'jog' the streets at home.

I know there was a Wii hack that did this and it seem like a pretty cool idea. Anything that'll get me jogging again, lol.
