Umm...

By 'virgin', I meant ME... (iPhone virgin that is)

Maybe I should have used the more up to date 'newbie' or 'noob'...

What I was wondering is does it take twice the amount of space as the incoming update to update these suckers. Like if an update is 200M, do I need 400M to do the update or does it sort of only replace the bits updated and no additional space is needed. I haven't had my coffee this morning so maybe I'm not making sense like I should...

Still, to comment on Google Street View, it's a toy on some levels. I've heard of house fires and accidents and scantily clad women being found on pictures there... Still, for dreams of sunny places I'm sure it can be therapy... This is the first day that we've seen the sun in over a week! Yippee...

Emoji

Someone maybe already posted this but i went into the iphone manual and looked at the emoji this is what it said on page 27

Enter Emoji picture characters Use the Emoji keyboard. Available only on
iPhones purchased and used in Japan.

:( :(

I am in Japan and I cannot seem to get my emoji keyboard to work. Went to the Apple Store a block away and they did not know how to get it to work either...

It's not a patch, it's the full OS. 2.2 completely replaces 2.1 which completely replaced 2.0.2 which completely replaced 2.0.1 etc.

Roll on pwn for 2.2.!

Looking forward to any speed increases.

2-3 days ya reckon before it's released?

Where's push notification?, MMS, SMS text forwarding, copy/paste, wide keyboard for mail/SMS, the ability to tap a phone number or a contact name from the calendar? The ability to inform me that I have an email, missed call or SMS without sliding to unlock? Tether option? Bluetooth file transfer?

Yeah but thanks for the emoji apple...

OHH yeah... needed that emoji, whatever that is. I get jealous when i see the ad for the Blackberry Thunder with it's nice wide keyboard. Why doesn't the iPhone have this? I don't get it. The ability to inform me of new email and missed calls is essential too. I just don't understand why the iPhone doesn't have these yet.

in case no-one noticed, i've found a new change

in the app store, when you look at an app to read the description, you can now see multiple previews of the app instead of the one image that used to only be available. also when you delete an app off the iphone, it does ask for a rating as previously predicted.

If your on the 4th page and you hit the home button, it will take you to screen one.

Yea, that sound arbitrary. My personal preference is if one tap took you to the home/entry screen of the current application, two taps goes to the iPhone Finder home screen where the application resides and three taps goes to the first iPhone home screen.

This would conflict with the double-tap to get to favorites but Preferences could be expanded for user-defined home screen taps.

you're so right

Yeah but thanks for the emoji apple...

you're so damn right
wide keyboard desperatly needed
copy/paste
tell me about new email (though mine actually does tell me about a new missed call)
bluetooth transfers i really need but wouldnt be surprised if that never happens, what with apple copyright restrictions on music and everything.

BUT ALSO!!!!!
i want it so that when i get a new text, i can get an option to bring up the keyboard and respond there and then, instead of having to quit my current app and going onto the sms app!!!
i really really need that!!!!

yes under 10MB for cell network
Unlimited for Wifi

= completely useless. Hooray.

Forget this update. Pwned 2.1 works marvelously, not going to mess with it.

This is yet another sad, sad Apple update to the iPhone. 2.1 was basically 2.0 without all of the terrible issues, and now we're back to one year ago, where new Apple updates include absolutely nothing worth upgrading for.

Apple has no interest in developing new features for the iPhone, and they cap off the SDK and approval process just above USELESS.

If it wasn't for the hacked community, the iPhone would be in the dust right now.

Street view: works great here in Paris, France. The feature is amazing and the way its implemented is so cool. That transition is not good for those who fear heights, it gets me dizzy.

Podcasts: i dont get it. I can stream a 60meg podcast but i cant download it ??? Whats the difference ???

iPod app: Now i can delete any podcast, video or audio. Great feature.

Cheers
Xavier

WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT EMOJI, GIVE ME A BREAK! Can I deny the copying of this garbage to my phone?

Someone's bitter.

Just because an update isn't useful for you doesn't mean it isn't useful for others.

All iPhone problems are cured with this update. Everything is faster and nothing crashes. I have Copy/Paste and MMS!

Just kidding. I do like the new Home Button and Street View. We'll see how well the dropped call improvements are.

Does the transit thing even work in Boston? Also, is there a way to find the closest transit stop to my current location?

OMG - Sun audio (.au) files now work in Mail!!!! this means my Packet8 voicemails finally play, as they should on any QT-enabled system!! wow, this just made the iPhone a thousand percent more awesome for my business!

i've sent in feedback to Apple a dozen times about this, glad they finally listened... were probably sick of getting my emails!

In case anyone is wondering, I updated my unlocked (but not jailbroken) iPhone 2G and it stays unlocked.

Seems to have fixed my GPs it locates me now. For the people that get the unlocked message, would somebody put in a different SIM and check if it is true already?

I'm updating right now.
I have an iPod Touch 2G and I was very happy when I read that I didn't have to pay for this update...
But no Google Street View? That's disappointing... It's a very cool feature and there's absolutely no reason to keep it out of the iPod...
I hope it comes in another update.
