= completely useless. Hooray.

Forget this update. Pwned 2.1 works marvelously, not going to mess with it.

This is yet another sad, sad Apple update to the iPhone. 2.1 was basically 2.0 without all of the terrible issues, and now we're back to one year ago, where new Apple updates include absolutely nothing worth upgrading for.

Apple has no interest in developing new features for the iPhone, and they cap off the SDK and approval process just above USELESS.

If it wasn't for the hacked community, the iPhone would be in the dust right now.
Funny thing is the majority of people aren't hacking their iphones so what you said is completely useless.

Say you are on the 3rd page of apps, if you click the home button it brings you to the 1st page.

Useless update for the iPod Touch yes. Not all features are useless to you though.

I'm going to wait until a few lucky suckers download this update and see what blows up.

still no in ear phones tho...
Because a ****ing software update is not about those earphones.

I am happy about the podcast downloading now, I now have no reason to need to use itunes anymore which is good. Also the public transportation directions seems like they can be helpful, I hope they work in Boston.

Issue with Application Updates

The update went well, but when I check for updated applications, neither the phone or iTunes on my iMac will connect to the App Store to check for updates. It connects for everything else, but not the updates. Since it's a problem on both the iPhone and the iMac, I'm assuming this is an issue with the App Store. Anyone else seeing this?

Everything else looks good.

Question: Is it Snappier™?

I know that's a joke, but yeah it is. If you though 2.1 was good on account of all the stuff improved well 2.2 is an even bigger upgrade than 2.1 was. I love that there's no lag when I look at my contacts, and I haven't had any crashes in Safari so far, even when browsing sites that normally crash it.

Another useless update. Apple are not doing themselves any favours...yeah streetview is nice (even though we cant get it in the UK) and the home button is cool but who bloody asked for this?! NOBODY!

Apple give us what we want before you lose all your customers!

Of course not. Only a fraction of users. No one was talking about that though.

The majority of "users" are just mindless people walking around in daze. They might occasionally push a button on their shiny iPhone besides "Slide to Answer" which then takes up the next 4 hours of their day.

If you had comprehended the writing you would see clearly that I was referring to the technical of the iPhone, not the user side. Apple deceived anyone and everyone who bought the idea that THEY, specifically, would be adding features to the iPhone on a regular basis.

Why do we have no copy and paste today? No real file navigation/storage/management? There is no money to be made off the effort to create it...yet. Not until its a built in feature of the NEXT NEXT iPhone, something that convinces you to drop your perfectly good current iPhone for whatever is new and next.

Right but current iphone owners also get future updates so they likely wouldn't have to pay for copy and paste unless it involved some sort of hardware change.

Safari runs fast, it still displays small animated gifs but the keyboard is now very responsive. Me like lots :)

Yeah must be something with the appstore as this was affecting itunes this morning before the 2.2 update.

Yes, as others have said it sucks we don't get streetview in the UK. I know it is not Apple's fault, but still sucks.

How do you use the transit directions? I'm not seeing those three icons like in the screenshot.

I'm pretty excited for 2 things in this update:

1. The home screen button feature. Very cool. Back in the 2.0 days, I actually had this idea of double tapping the home button to go to the FIRST page. I guess one tap works, and I can still have my double-tap reserved for favorites... even better.

2. No more keyboard lag in Safari is what I'm hearing... that's cool.

By the way... is the search field in Safari always visible now?

Enjoy it! the performance boost is really significant! :)

I've really noticed a performance increase or something because 2 of my most "crashy" apps (1) Cooliris and most notably (2) Guitar Rock Tour runs extremely smooth and game loads WAY faster than before. I've been trying to crash Guitar Rock Tour but it hasn't crashed in over 30 mins of playing, exiting, loading, playing etc. and thumbnails in Cooliris loads faster and scrolls a lot smoother.

I really think Apple did something to the OS to manage the iPhone's memory and maybe clocked the CPU higher?
