after installing 2.2 and having a quick look around, all seems good.

the loading bar was helpful in the firmware update, better than "updating iphone firmware" and you never know how long its going to take. posted a pic since no one at all would know what it looks like.

cheers, mickbab.

Am I crazy or did I read something about a feature being added that I have been waiting for since my first 5g ipod...

The ability to change the headphone out to a regular audio line out?
Thus eliminating the need to use docks and adapters.

I don't see this listed anywhere, I guess it was just a rumor.

As per the topic on hand, Safari is a lot more responsive. Before, when having multiple windows open, they would reload each time you switched between them. Not any longer! This saves a lot of time (and likely battery too) and annoyance. Better yet, you can click on a link, then switch to another window. When you go back to the original window, your link will be loaded.

I know these sound like simple tasks, but these tasks lead to a lot of frustration before. And Safari has yet to crash on me.

Now, with Safari totally taken care of, can we please focus on:

MMS, turn-by-turn directions, and cut and paste?

And Google, thank you for making the iPhone what it is today. :p

Where's push notification?, MMS, SMS text forwarding, copy/paste, wide keyboard for mail/SMS, the ability to tap a phone number or a contact name from the calendar? The ability to inform me that I have an email, missed call or SMS without sliding to unlock? Tether option? Bluetooth file transfer?

Yeah but thanks for the emoji apple...

What are you talking about, I didn't get any emoji love!

YaY! 2.2! Wireless PodCast Updating, YaY!

First time updating my four day old iPhone and this update is HUGE. 246.4 megabytes.

It would appear that the 'rule of thumb' is to keep 500M of space free on the iPhone for updates? Do the updates require much extra open space to install? I know that on my touch I ran into an issue updating apps and running out of space.

Seems like a silly question but I'm curious...

I am of the body. I have an iPhone, finally (and a new 2 year contract with the great death star... *sigh*

It just replaces the previous OS that was on there. It won't end up taking that much more than it did before.

And Virgin isn't the Death Star. That would be the Evil, Evil people known as ATT.

"Improved stability and performance of Safari"
Actually this is probably what I'm most excited about. I can't seem to go to two web pages without crashing the thing, hopefully that will improve.

A very solid update; small, but solid.

On another note - anyone else notice that images saved from Safari/Mail are somewhat pixelated (when viewed from the 'Photos' App)?

EDIT: Upon further testing - I stand corrected. Apologies on the false alarm.

Me neither! And I want emoji more than any other feature at the moment

Apparently this emoji thing was just a big bait-and-switch operation by Apple. Surprise, surprise. I guess you have to have some sucky e-mail account that everybody hates in Japan to use them. With this phone, features just can't come out, there always has to be some limiting string attached.

I had 5 webpages open (and actually simultaneously loading!) at once and it didn't crash.

It seems also that the walking and public transportation directions are also absent from the Touch?

Also, the backspace still sticks when typing something into a webpage?

Can anyone else confirm this?

disappointed to say the least.

why? iPod touch does not pay montly instalments. I am sure that this will be available some time later or you could get an iPhone. :)

2.2 update

Ok...I've read up to page 8 of these forums and I see that we have users that just can't seem to figure things out on their own.

GOOGLE STREET VIEW: First you MUST Drop a Pin. Second you will get ONE of TWO Displays...The human icon on the left will either be solid or faded...IF ITS FADED then there is NO street view. IF if its colored then there is street view available.

To test...drop a pin in a major city or metropoloitan area and move it around until you see the human icon in color then touch the icon and BINGO you get street view.

If you lift up the page it offers show traffic choice. If there is no street view it will say say so. This is not rocket science people, do a little testing and get out of your box and you will be able to figure this stuff out. This product is the easiest to use and operate out of any smart of the smart phones.

PODCASTS: This is also misleading. YES, you can now download podcasts but it does NOT let you know that you have new podcasts available for your subscriptions. If you select "Get More Episodes" in your iPod app then it takes you to the iTunes store and offers ALL of the podcasts for that choice, they are dated and you can select whichever one you want. It does not update your subscriptions for you.

I will now go back to page 9 and continue reading.

Good Luck and Enjoy

I should have dropped breadcrumbs

That just seems lazy. You should know where your going. It's really not a hard task. Well, maybe I just have a great sense of direction. :D

Better than mine I'm sure!

You're probably right that it's lazy too, but I'd rather be looking around than looking down. :)

meh. Yes stability within safari is nice. But no upgrades to use? No mms or video capability, no enhancement to sms, no copy and paste?

Apple, let us know when you really plan on releasing a true update.

In the AppStore there are now more Screenshots for every application

In the updated Safari, when you go "Back" to a previous page, does it cache it and display it quickly or still reload it?
