Really? Kind of a petty post, don't you think?

It was a surprising release because usually Apple releases their iPhone firmware in the morning or during the day that was rumored (ie nov 21st at 9am PST). It wasn't the 21st in California- it was still the 20th, this is why it was a surprising time for them to release it.

So based on that, you guys were actually wrong...... :)

It was Nov 21st here in Greece, so based on that we are actually right :)

App Store

After the update, my App Store still looks the same. Anyone else?

Sorry buddy, if your going to walk somewhere, just look at a friggin map and WALK. I don't see why you would need directions to walk from point A to point B - again, just open Google Maps and use your brain. I'm sorry you must need a computer to inform you of common sense.

The only reason why we would need driving directions is because people usually drive far distances. But if your going to walk less than 5 miles, I think you can figure it out with a map in your hand.

umm... I believe the idea behind this phone is to provide you that map. Why would you have an iphone and carry a map? Little wierd.. man... I can just picture you now... Lost in a desert with a GPS phone and you are going in circles with a paper map.

Whatever man. If that's what you need to make yourself feel good, sure, it was the 21st in Greece.

Everyone knows that Apple bases their announcements on Athens time.

However, it was still the 20th in Cupertino.

BTW, I love your food.

Agreed.

Safari for me is a much more pleasant experience. The JavaScript based news ticker across the top of the BBC News web site previously brought Safari to it's knees leaving it slow to respond to input. Now the ticker is smooth and Safari behaves as it should.

Also typing within a webpage would often become very laggy for me, especially on the "post thread" pages of certain forums, now it's normal.

It looks like 2.x has finally matured.

I before couldn't type with my iPhone on forums. Including this one, Apple's Support forum, and appleinsider forum. It would lag tremendously and I would have to type slow or it would make my phone crash. Now I can type as fast as I want with little to no lag and ZERO crashes! That was the biggest deal to me. I was going to get a new phone because of that. I got the iPhone for safari and now it works! Thank You Apple!

Still want Copy,Paste

It now says "Searching..."at the top of the screen when switching back and forth from 3g to Edge and vice versa. Maybe this isnt new (?) but i never noticed it. Also, my 3g connection seems more solid.

I was under the impression that the look was different. See the attached image.

Anyone know about speeds and rumors of GPS problems?

For me, 2.1 was okay then they updated the towers around here and with 2.1 I was getting 1250+ kbps, almost sames as wifi on 3g, thus the paranoid about 2.2 update.

Need confirmation on speed tests and GPS (location).

Thanks

testmyiphone/cnet/other speed tests and GPS, accurate or not? 3G, WiFI, EDGE GPS accuracy (differs with connection, so would like a report from someone please)....

Thanks

False Alarm

Disregard my above posts. I see they changed the appearance under the categories tab. I thought those original screen shots were from the Top 25 tab. My apologies for any confusion folks.

Nope.

Does it crash when you are reading these forums? i had so many when i was in here, as soon as yesterday.

I finally runs smoothly. Even on this forum. One for me where it would always crash is on the apple Support site. It no longer crashes there. And the keyboard types real smooth during logins such as this site or yahoo, or gmail. No more keyboard lag while entering account information.

It;s amazing...as much as i used to bitch about auto complete and not having a setting to turn it off.....i don't want to turn it off now!!! :D

I like the new layout for the Address Bar and Search bar in safari. I am a bit dissapointed about the 10mb limit of cellular podcast downloads.!!

But well done Apple.

Podcasts used to list the most recent one first from top to bottom. Now it lists them from oldest to newest, top to bottom. See:

Does anyone else have to restore their entire iPhone when trying to install an update? It happened when I tried to install 2.1 on my new iPhone too, but at least that time it was empty.

The update downloads as normal and starts up but then I'm greeted with a message in iTunes about my iPhone failing to update and I can't do anything with it other than restore to factory original settings. It's really annoying.

I also have noticed that my Iphone is running at 6 Mflops after the update. Before it was only 5.5Mflops.

This is according to the Diagnostics App in the app store.

YAY!!! NEw FEATURE!

My favorite is the AppStore now shows multiple pictures and displays them full-screen; makes it feel like you're in the App!

LOL the character 'I' and 'X' doesn't pop when pressed on keyboard.

You can also finally write reviews for apps on the phone itself. You don't have to be on iTunes on your computer anymore! So many more reviews will come from this because I know I don't want to waste time looking up an app on itunes just to put a review.

modem firmware on a first gen iPhone

Could anyone report the modem firmware on a first gen iPhone with this 2.2 update?

Thanks

Public domain transit schedules

And the data from all those other websites is surely in the public domain now, as another user pointed out.

Should that be the case, I wonder why the Berlin Transit Authority had just stopped a student from distributing a (free) iPhone app that allowed users to query their schedules, claiming a violation of their copyright. (Another transit company stepped in and granted the student a royalty-free license, but that's another story.)

By the way, they explained themselves by stating that Apple was "one of the richest companies in the world". Never mind that neither Apple nor the student got any money out of it.

So if Google were to use this information for the iPhone I guess their response would be that Apple and Google are two of the richest companies in the world.
