My phone never did this before. I normally use a bluetooth, but even with just the speaker phone on, I never dropped the call when I turned off the screen.

Dropping calls and turning off apps when you turn off the screen is very weird. Gotta be a glitch. I can't see any reason Apple would want to have a function like that.

wow that's a huge bug for me :( i use the BT alot and lock the screen all the time while using the BT.

Seems strange to me that noone reported that MANY bluetooth audio issues have been resolved with the 2.2 version of iPhone software.

For me, this was a relief, since people were often complaining that they couldn't hear me, or that I was cracking up when they were in a noisy environment. Seems to me that iPhone software v2.1 used to have a noise/echo cancelation feature that didn't work as it should and looks like it work much better now, since both my bluetooth headsets I tried to use are working excellently now!

For more info on my issue, as well as many other bluetooth audio-related issues, have a look on this apple support forum thread.

Regarding the locking-iphone-hangs-up-the-call issue, I did quitea few tests. The phone hangs up the call ONLY when talking through the phone. When using speakerphone or bluetooth, it just locks the screen.

Caps-Lock

Has anybody noticed the Caps-Lock function isn't working anymore. I tried double tapping the shift, but it doesn't turn blue anymore.

Too bad they removed this feature...

Idea for sound issue...

For the sound issue.. Tell me this..

Unlock your screen. Hit volume up and down button on the screen.
Does it say headset volume? If it does plug iPhone headset in and see if it works.

If it does turn phone off with headset plugged in.

Now unplug headset and turn phone on.

Does it work now?

I saw this while reading on the 2.2 update and had to suggest it. I had this happen to me a few times. Its a bug I think that when you disconnect your headset even non iPhone headset it looses track that it was disconnected.

Hope it works...

Whats driving me crazy is that I can't find the option to turn off the txt message alert that shows who text you.

I see

Username
New Text Messaage.

I think tonight I will go to the apple store and exchange my iphone 3g... My sound is gone and I need it. Can't even list to my voice messages on speaker.

Still there on my phone...better check to see if this feature somehow got switched off in keyboard settings.

What He Said!

I really hate Apple's condescending attitude towards software updates! How many releases do we have to wait before getting these extremely simple features?

  1. Landscape keyboard in SMS/Email
  2. Do not pop up SMS messages
  3. Show the fast forward/rewind slider in iPod without having to tap the screen
  4. Wallpaper shows on home screen
  5. Eliminate the aggravating 1-2 second delay when launching any app
  6. Change it so that pressing a link in Safari does not make the screen unresponsive to further link presses prior to the new page loading
  7. Speed up the "Back" button in Safari (why is this not instantaneous?? caching has been around for decades!)
  8. Fix the extremely annoying "runaway Backspace key" bug which will erase an entire email if you're not careful
  9. Add a mechanism to SCROLL on long web pages without swiping 300000 times

Anyone have anything else to add?

One more thing to add to all of this...

11) In Safari, fix pages from crashing and having to reload when you A. Haven't opened safari and a while and re-open it, losing the page you were currently on and waiting to reload. and B. Switching between Tabs. FRUSTATING as watching a paralyzed kid stand up

Since updating my iPhone to 2.2, I've noticed that my 3G speeds are super fast. It used to be around 600 kb but now I get 1.73 mb/s!!

That's a huge improvement. Is it just me or has this affected other users too?

Dang Britney is FUGLY, I just threw up a little in my mouth. Wish she'd just go away.

I've noticed scrolling on everything seems smoother, from the contacts which, granted the last update fixed things a bit, to Safari to even in the settings pane.

And yes, Safari does seem, how they say, snappier!

Keep dreaming.

And I agree, Safari is much faster.

It's still there. Maybe you accidentally turned it off in the settings.

For all those who responded to my pop-up text message issue, I would rather there be a disable option w/o password protecting the phone.

And damn you people are haters. Britney looks great!

My unlock screen isn't displaying the AM/PM anymore either. I want AM/PM displayed. If yours is displaying it, and three of us are reporting that we are not, then maybe there's some type of switch to turn it on or off.

mine shows up?

Yes. your blissful ignorance of what goes into these features. And the fact that bugfixes and stability WILL ALWAYS COME BEFORE NEW FEATURES. Yes, they added a couple new things like Street View, but they fixed remaining issues from the last release, and improved overall performance of the iPhone altogether.

Those will always come before new features. Besides.. If you think it's so easy to add in these 'extremely simple' features.. Code them and release them your own damn self.

BL.

I think not.

I don't get it; it puzzles me that people still think she shaved her head yesterday. That was nearly two years ago.

Dunno if its been mentioned, but when downloading App updates through the phone and not iTunes it no longer creates a temp second icon

Ugg. Hair or no hair, she's still psycho trailer trash that grunts lyrics and is so overproduced you can not even say she's a singer let alone, smarter then a wet sponge.

Back on topic:

WAY BETTER battery life, not sure if it is because I left the brightness down as apple changed during the update but I have been out all day and usually half or more gone in the battery meter, today 15% gone so far, but I did use it slightly less, still, it is noticeable.

wonder what they changed?

I don't know if this is new or not, but I just noticed there is a "play" button on the photos for viewing them as a slideshow.

I don't know if this feature is new because if you were sharing apps and synced your iphone to iTunes without logging into the iTunes store the iPhone would prompt this login. If you did login into the iTunes Store and synced your iPhone then the iPhone would already prefilled in the username. If you then decided to login it would ask you that you did not buy this app and would you want to buy it.

I just tried this and I didn't get a blank login screen.

Also, 2.1 did show updates to apps that you did not purchase but had on your iPhone.

Updating applications purchased by another user
When updating an application on an iPhone or iPod touch, if the application was purchased by another user, it shows a dialog to change the user and input the password. Prior to 2.2, the App Store didn't even show the update of a application if the account configured on the iPhone or iPod touch was different.

I noticed from 2.1 to 2.2 the "#+=" key used to act somewhat like the shift key, allowing you to enter a single character before it would switch off, but in 2.2 it seems to act like the Caps Lock key and stay on until you turn it off. You'll notice this change if you attempt to type, for example // (two foreslashes together).

I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but when you connect to a VPN there is now a status indicator that states your connecting, authenticating, registering etc...

Make sure you have it enabled in the settings. During the update it may have been switched off. It is off by default.

I think 2.2 added a "vibrate off when silent" mode now.

This is key! Its nice to be able to keep the phone on in meetings (and occasionally take a look at the phone), and not worry about the vibrating making too much noise.

That has been there since 1.x. I had it when I first got my 2g iPhone last year.
