And those freakin' earbuds, Apple?

That's cool, but I still can't find a way to make my clickable earphones work again... Clicking raise the volume, instead of pausing/skipping. And I'm not the only one. 30$ for those cheap earphones... The first time I'm really pissed against Apple...

My unlock screen still displays the AM/PM indicator.

Just tried it myself. Opened an album while connected to WiFi, left and entered Settings, turned WiFi off and returned back to iTunes Store. It loaded! The clip is taking forever to start streaming though - probably because I'm connected to GRPS.
Edit: Finally, after picking up 3G the clip started to play. Pretty signifigant bug.

Mine never had an AM/PM indicator?!

Sorry man, that been there for a while, I even think from 2.0.

I hate that actually... when I commute via subway and have to change trains, I pause video, walk with the iPhone in my hand and then resume the video. It's always the wrong way around when I want to resume and I have to wait about 4 seconds for it to re-orient itself. I coul of course lock the screen before starting to walk (worked fonee on 1.1.4), but since 2.0, it's a bag of hurt getting it to resume, because either the video played without sound or the whole thing would just hang for a whole minute.

Same thing with coverflow. When I have the iPhone in landscape mode (prepared to watch a movie), I tap "iPod", then it goes into cover flow. So I have to turn the thing upright again just to be able to tap on "Videos".

This was a 2.0 feature.

It was/is.

Yeah, that is annoying. If only you could turn it off.....
Same thing in Safari as well, auto rotate sometimes is really annoying, especially when lying down.

Mine never had an AM/PM indicator?!

Neither did mine.....

Look at the new show sms preview that wasnt there before!!!

Arian :)

Yes. your blissful ignorance of what goes into these features. And the fact that bugfixes and stability WILL ALWAYS COME BEFORE NEW FEATURES. Yes, they added a couple new things like Street View, but they fixed remaining issues from the last release, and improved overall performance of the iPhone altogether.

Those will always come before new features. Besides.. If you think it's so easy to add in these 'extremely simple' features.. Code them and release them your own damn self.

BL.

Why are you so defensive? He was right, Apple should be fixing the smaller bugs and annoyances before putting time into developing more complicated functions like street view. Most of the things he mentioned are extremely small fixes, and telling him to fix them himself is asinine. When you buy a car and the radio only plays half the channels would you like the dealership to tell you to fix it "your own damn self"?

How many times do we have to scream about copy/paste before Apple takes notice?

not sure if this was mentioned, i did a DFU restore on my phone, while updating there's a new status bar indicator on the phone itself (below the apple logo).

Mine never had an AM/PM indicator?!

AM/PM was added in a previous release but for whatever reason it didn't appear automatically on all phones. In version 2.1 in order for me to get AM/PM on the lock screen I had to go into Settings-->General--Date & Time and turn 24-Hour Time ON, then power the phone off then on again, then go back into Settings-->General--Date & Time and turn 24-Hour Time OFF. At that point AM/PM appeared on the lock screen for me. However, if you ever had to power the phone off then on again (as I had had to numerous times) you will lose the AM/PM and will have to repeat the process above.

However, as of 2.2 that process I described no longer works. In fact when I tried that process instead of showing AM/PM it showed the time in 24 hour mode on the lock screen even when I had 24-hour mode set to OFF in the settings.

So that is definitely a bug. Not a major issue, but I like having the AM/PM on the lock screen.

1. Safari appears to be more responsive (fluid, "snappier")
2. Speaking of which, I now notice Safari Snapback arrow.
3. Did we get in-line YouTube video?

Just noticed this.
It now shows many minutes of a Movie you have left:

Mail attachments

I haven't seen anyone mentioning this but my mail application does not re-download attachments every time I select different messages that I have viewed before on my POP email account. Now my attachments show up immediately. I have accessed almost my entire inbox without delays.

It helps some of us with no wi-fi and limited data bundles. Previously, I had to copy my emails to the sent box so that i can view them later without downloading again.

No screenshots, but sound/muting appears to be working differently now.

I won't say "all" yet, but several apps that did not honor the "silence" switch are now silent when it's set to vibrate. Also, the same apps mute when the phone sleeps, even when set to "noisy."

Since several apps changed all at the same time, this makes me think they changed the muting behavior at the OS level.

Unfortunately, it makes it rather difficult to use Ambiance or other noise generation apps overnight. Even without the sleep mute, the need to be in "noisy" mode means I'll be woken up by phone calls, appointments, and texts.

I'm hoping it'll be temporary behavior or that there's another sound channel these apps could be using.

This behavior with Ambiance is a huge problem for me. I have to think that this is something to prevent apps from hijacking the iPhone and running down the battery while the user thinks the phone is asleep. For example, Cookie Solitaire would continue to drain the battery even after you press the sleep button. However, it has the unfortunate side effect of rendering Ambiance semi-useless. I say semi because I can manually set the iPhone to not auto-lock and turn the brightness off but this is an annoying work around to have to perform every time I want to use Ambiance.

If you've jailbroken and are "never going back", then you must enjoy being jailbroken, no? If so, then what are so you mad about? Maybe because you can't update without losing your jailbroken status? How exactly is that functioning at "full capacity"?

it seems pretty contradictory?

Probably a very long time.

Why are you so defensive? He was right, Apple should be fixing the smaller bugs and annoyances before putting time into developing more complicated functions like street view. How many times do we have to scream about copy/paste before Apple takes notice?

The simple fact of the matter is that Copy and Paste are a huge effort relative to doing bug fixes. As to street view well that is no where as difficult as an API that impacts each and every app on the device.

As to the poster you are commenting on, he is right if people truely think that copy and paste is all that easy then they should implement it themselves. They would certainly learn something.

Also you are looking a bit in informed here because I have not seen one advertisement yet that indicates that copy and paste was part of the iPhone software suite. To sit here in this forum and imply it is missing just does not reflect well on you as a person. It has never been part of IPhone it is as simple as that. Should it be, well that is a different question but whining about it isn't going to change priorities at Apple. The simple fact is they have more important fish to fry.

Look at it this way Apple has many things that need to be ironed out on iPhone. I for one would love to see them flesh out the BlueTooth stack. It's limited nature right now has a serious impact on what one can do with apps on iPhone. Do I whine excessively, like a child, because BluTooth is a little thin? Nope, instead I work with what I got and go from there. Successfully implementing tech isn't just an issue of one side delivering one be all end all product, mainly because that never happens, it is also about getting the user to accept new tech. Every piece of software, that a user comes into contact with needs a bit of effort from that user to be successful. No effort equals no benefit.

In any event this whole copy and paste thing is way overblown. This from somebody that wouldn't object to having it at all. It simply isn't a show stopper like some things( for instance Safari that was crash-a-matic ). With the overall improvement in iPhone operation I really don't understand the negativity with respect to this release.

My Ymail no longer has the option to push. It only gives me fetch and manual. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Have tried over Wifi & 3G. Interestingly , now when trying over 3G it gives a slightly different message " The iTunes Store Is Temporarily Unavailable. Please Try Again Later "

Just on another subject. I noticed in the change log for 2.2 , that the homepage button is slightly different. Something about when in a menu if you press the Home button it takes you back to the 1st page & not home screen. Now I don't know if I'm misreading this , however whenever I press the home button , it always takes me back to the home screen. What am I doing wrong

Regards James

so what happened with this? was it just busy?
