Would Mr. Rose like to tell us how jailbreaking can get around this "hardware limitation"?

If a jailbreak allows me to record video, I don't see why Apple can't implement this on the current iPhone.

Apple may not include video recording in 3.0, but it is certainly possible to do.

Hardware limitation my ass.

Don

Apple has standards, I suspect.

To me "setting your standards low" is using a phone as a video recorder.

Yeah when you can buy a bad arsed hd video camera that is small for just over $100, having video recording that you see on cell phones just seems pointless.

AGREE!! Apple would've taken a LOT more criticism for giving us ****** video than no video. The video from jailbreak apps is horrible. For whatever reason.

I've had my iPhone jailbroken since it was first possible. There are many video recording applications available. I have "iPhone Video Recorder v3.0" installed that encodes in MPEG-4 and MOV in 320x240, 240x320, 384x288, 288x384 with up to 128 bps audio. Cycorder is another video recording application, however I'm not certain what encoding is utilized. Both of these applications produce very good quality videos with little memory usage, so I'm not certain if quality is the reason why Apple has not allowed official video recording.

iWork on iphone? thats ridiclious to me.... show me the person that is soooo busy, he has to insert some numbers on his IPHONE or work on his presentation....... if you REALLY need to be able to do such things while you "on tour", you definitely take a laptop with you instead of using your iphone....

Think quick edits. Often times I'll be on the bus and realize I forgot to add a paragraph to a paper. Hopefully I'll be able to log into iwork.com, download the pages file, add my paragraph and upload it again.

Is that too much to ask from a phone?

Also, people write books on their cell phone.

Updated apps? Improved Active Sync?

Hi all,

Apologies in advance if these items were discussed already - I haven't read through all 17 pages (so far) of comments.

I would be very happy if Apple updated Active Sync implementation to include push syncing of new messages inside nested folders on an Exchange account. As it stands right now only the top-level "Inbox" folder is sync'd via push. The current workaround is to *locally* route messages to folders. I manage mine via server-side rules. As a result I must manually update all nested folders to see if there are updates. Not very useful.

As far as the rest of the 3.0 update is concerned, I think we'll see a number of app updates (Safari most notably), as well as some new apps.

In other words, it's just like the Copy & Paste we have now. So apple waits two years on Copy & Paste, until hackers figure it out, and then copy their work. ...kinda like the appstore itself...

Not impressive, Apple.

And no video? Prepare to take a back seat to the first company that does figure it out. Dumb.

The implementations don't sound the same at all. I just looked up clippy and it is not the same thing we have seen here in terms of whats being done.

I am tired of hearing about all the half-arsed things the iphone can do when jailbroken. Just because someone made a half useless video recorder for jailbreak does not mean I want the same inferior product on a non-jail broken phone. If something can't be done up to a quality and standard that comes with having an iPhone, I don't particularly want it. The iPhone is not a toy to me.

The apple solution to c&p sounds fair integrated and elegant. The clippy measure sounds clunky and cluttered.

That is why some of us don't mind waiting. Lots of thing could be done poorly much more quickly. Some of us would prefer they take their time to do it right.

Yipee!

Cut & Paste!!!!

Only 2 years after the iPhone debuted! Now, if we can get MMS, landscape keyboard in email/sms/mms, video and Turn-by-Turn navigation in the next two years, we'll be where most over-$50 phones are today!

ok you're right, it might be suiteable for adding some numbers or a short passage!

But the book thing seems to be "nerdlike" to me. that's clearly a niche ;) but i could write a book on the floor aswell, maybe i should give it a try.. ;)

Yeah I wouldn't want to write a book with a touch screen. That would be painful Hell, factor in the auto-correct feature and that is a scary preposition.

I've seen the word "limitations" numerous times in this thread.

I just don't understand Apple. Isn't a NEW iPhone coming out this summer, if so, why aren't they changing the hardware around drastically to improve the battery, etc.

this is retarded... how many times will u use this?

we really need a backgrounding app.... something we'll use all the time.

sh#t, yo, finally. now if they allow us to store and edit documents, this thing will be ready for the real business world.

Let me add that to my excel document of things they need to do. Hold on a sec... need to grab my iphone.

There we go... and open the app and open the xls file and..

okay done. Addd to the list.

This site isn't full of Apple fanboys and fangirls, even though I am one.
A bunch of us are neutral and I know of several that are PC fans.

I'm a PC and Mac Fan! Love the iPhone and can't wait for what tomorrow has in store. I also really like Safari 4 and the new update to itunes (made my library seem more smooth speed wise), even in windoze.

Atleast the iphone gets updates regularly, unlike Windows Mobile. It seems like the iphone update cycle is way more consistent than other mobile os's.
