That's why "[Kevin Rose] says that what Apple has coming will wipe away any advantages that Palm has touted with its Pre handheld", right - because catch-up = innovation?

what catch up? last time i checked the pre is not out yet!

Last time I checked, 3.0 is not out yet!

By the way, do you mind checking the top post of this very page? Too much to ask?

Seriously, what is so hard to understand when Kevin Rose says in the video, "they told me that this brings it up to speed with all the Palm Pre stuff"? ('They' being the party that gave Kevin Rose the intel, which he made a point of saying gave him correct information last time). What about that statement would you not call playing catch-up?

i don't dare to ask you how many of them you use regularly

Yeah, I don't use many of them, but still, I like to keep them around. I mean I hardly ever need the bubble level, but it's kindof fun to show someone once in a blue moon.

Oops, and I forgot the iPhone software 3.0 was being released tomorrow too.

In case you didn't realize, that phrase you reference is in quotes - meaning Kevin Rose said it. It's also obvious it was (or he wants us to believe it was) from a contact he has inside Apple, which would mean, if true, it's a paraphrase of:

"We are going to be matching all the features of the Palm Pre with the 3.0 software" - Apple, Inc.

Haha, you do have a point too eso. It's still small potatoes to compare or worry about Apple vs Palm vs MS etc. Everyone must really accept that Apple will be the maker of the coolest phone gadget thingy - the others are imitators for the most part.

Keynote?

Will there be a keynote? Will it be available later for viewing on the net? anybody knows?

It won't be a keynote as it's only in Apple's Town Hall on campus, so it will be more like a presentation, like the SDK one this time last year. That was available to view (on apple.com) and download (via the video podcast on iTunes) so I should imagine this one would be too. :)

Anyone know what time it starts UK time?

5PM

I don't see how the Pre is in any way better than the iPhone. IMO, the iPhone is still ahead, and after today it will be even more so. People point out things like MMS and C&P as though they expect it to include the features from every phone - it's not meant to, it's meant to be better than any phone.

Besides, packing in more random features =/= progress

Copy and Paste / Cut and Paste

Please, can anyone explain to me why you'd want to copy and paste on a phone, I've never had a phone with this functionality and never needed it. If someone sends you a vCard, or a phone number/email address within a message, you can easily save that without needing to perform a copy and paste?

I can't begin to see why this has been a 'deal breaker' for so many people, or why it's being seen as such a big thing.

MMS however - I'll never understand why this wasn't included from the first version. MMS usage in the UK is huge and it's far from an obsolete technology, definitely not ready to be replaced yet.

just copy and past, WTF

dang copyandpaste, that's what we pin our hopes! your willing to agree to another At&t contract extension of 3-4,000 dollars out your pocket for that feature!

today they better bring it, kitchen sink and all!

freaken three years is more than enough of time for technological advancements for just only copy and paste. This feature was invented almost 30years ago!!!!!!!

that's just as old as me, but I digress.

So you're ranting at apple based on rumour and heresay - why not wait and watch the announcement before attacking them?

As far as I can see, the iPhone is the most advanced phone on the market - but I'm not getting one until it does MMS without a third party app. I've got a great contract phone which includes Text, MMS, Unlimited data and the phone allows for wireless syncing and internet tethering. But i'm waiting with an open mind. If the next generation brings all of this, for a similar cost priceplan, then I'd be tempted to switch.

One thing i would like to comment on is the camera - the image quality from it far outshines my "8 Megapixel" phone camera. We're fixated on numbers rather than real world performance, a camera is only as good as its optics and the iPhone seems to be a damn good camera (well, as phone cameras go)

two words, Lazer beams!

nah Just joking.

call it a rant, so what! It's a discussion on the topic. I'm just saying there better be whole lot of features to equel 2 grand of an at&t contract extension.
The economy is in the *******, I'm not willing to fork that money.

Cool, thanks! so any chance for a spoiler-free page from macrumors like there is for other presentations?

..If your biggest problem is having to actually pay attention somewhat to what you are doing in life, then I would stop your whining right now and try enjoying your experiences in life a little more!

umm that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Get my thoughts into some sort of computing device with as little of my attention required as possible, so I can actually spend more time enjoying my experiences in life. So thanks MacFly, you just proved my point!

And since it was a while ago now, I'll say it again. The problem with the iPhone keyboard is not speed or accuracy, it's the amount of attention you need to give it to get that speed and accuracy.

By its nature, the iPhone is not an all enveloping user experience. It's a little device in my hand. It deserves attention in proportion to its place in my life, and that includes its size. If I had to concentrate that hard to enter data into a laptop, it might be OK. But not on such a little device. It should be so natural as to be unnoticeable.

I don't want to be hunched over this little screen playing guessing games with the auto spell check like some sort of kid smsing their "frens lol" I want to look calm and svelt in my work environment with my skivvy etc as per the Apple brand promise.

I paid the entry fee. I want my user experience. Where's my bluetooth?

It is not a keynote but regardless Apple will have a video of the event on its site hours after the event is over.
So where is the spoiler free link macrumors always put up so those not at a computer today can enjoy the video later?

Where is the spoiler free link???

A gem

My sources are saying it will look like this.

The ONLY need for copy and paste I've had, is for entering long WLAN keys. It would have been nice at the time, but it's not a deal breaker for me. No MMS is a horrible oversight for sure.
