I remember all of this from last time....people staying up and waiting for a download link that eventually didn't work.

If I recall correctly the last update was available around 4pm GMT. I'd hedge my bets on the same happening this time.

FYI Three (Mobile operator in Hong Kong) have announced that the software will be available at 1am on June 18th Hong Kong time - i.e. 1PM EST on the 17th. Of course they may or may not be correct...
That works out to 10am Pacific time, 6pm uk time and 5pm european time:D

Ugh, I know I should be patient but I'd rather have this update run while I catch some zs.

That is usually the time that Apple holds their keynotes. Maybe they see this as the best time to target most of their global users at once.

You think they want everyone to download it at the same time? You would think it would make more sense to release it now and let the world download it when they respectively wake up!

I'm upgrading from the original iPhone to 3Gs... I want to keep my original phone as a touch moving forward.

I've been reading that people running an early version of the 3.0 software are having battery issues, etc.

I pre-ordered my 3Gs from apple... My question is this... If I hold off on the 3.0 software on my old iPhone (just to see if people are still getting bugs) will I still be able to upgrade it to 3.0 software after I activate my 3Gs?

That would be the sensible thing to do but it would explain the 5pm release from the last update. I really want the update now so I can go to work but I really don't think us UK users will see it until this evening. Hopefully Apple will surprise me.

So it now midnight (17th June 2009 in LA, so why the f**k is there still no 3.0 software Apple? Are you telling me that the rest of America can have this update first and us 2nd class citizens have to wait?

--------------------------------

I have just seen the post above this, something about a 5pm release? Great. Thanks Apple. (read the sarcassum) It was really worth me taking my mac into work today.

I think i might go and buy a pre.......

I'm surprised they didn't stagger it timezone to timezone, lessen the stress of every one of us nerds downloading it at once..

40 million iphones/ipod touches if I remember right...
