When 3.0 is released will it require a clean install or will it allow me to keep my calendar, contacts, etc? I seemed to pick up by reading the posts in this thread that I might have to re-enter all my stuff. This is my first itouch and my first experience with Mac. I recently also purchased a MacBook (white) so please be patient with me as I learn the ropes.

No, a standard upgrade to 3.0 will not wipe your iPod touch. There are some people who will likely do a restore just because they feel a need for a clean install, but if you simply let iTunes do it's thing and upgrade the iPod touch you'll be up and running without any need to reenter information.

Delayed without an official announcement?

See the information below....taken right from the apple site/iphone/software update...at the bottom is says the following:

"Some features require the free iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update, available June 18, 2009."
Could they have delayed it a day without an official announcement?

I just got a text from O2 (ireland) saying that the new software would be released 'this evening' and to be sure to dl it. Looks good for the 10am PST timeframe (+/- an hour or two naturally).

Full text message:

"Hi. The new iPhone software launches this evening with lots of new features for your iPhone. Install iTunes 8.2 and download it for free. See o2.ie. From O2.

Guys,
I am thinking to jailbroke my iPhone 3G after this update. Is that make me able to use Skype over 3G and record movies? What else is great there on dark side  I heard that Slingplayer will be streaming over 3G as well? Sorry but never pay attention to this but since I won't upgrade iPhone to 3GS I want squeeze everything out possible from 3G then.
I wonder if O2 in UK can find out about it. Is it worth it and where should I start from?

Thanks

bought an ipod touch on june 8th, after 3.0 was announced for it. normally you get a free/almost free update in a case like this.

anybody hear how apple will handle this one?

Highly unlikely. Is only $10 tho.
