iPhone 3.0 Update for iPod Touch Page Appears in iTunes, Not Yet Functional

But why? Apple does get an extra few hundred dollars when you first purchase an iPhone because of the carrier subsidy, but the iPod touch also costs more than the iPhone's subsidized price. Apple no longer gets a cut of monthly fees like they did with the original iPhone, so what exactly is this ongoing stream of revenue that Apple gets from iPhone customers that they don't from iPod touch customers (who actually paid more for their device!)
Why? Because they made it. So if you want it, you buy it. Period.
Its the 3.0 firmware that apple is suppose to post sometimes soon, its just someone got their hands on it and put it on a download site for people, i have it on my ipod touch and works and i can finally copy and paste... and its kinda fun
I received an SMS from my carrier (3 HK) on 14 Jun telling me when 3.0 is available to download. It says 18 Jun at 1:00am local time (1:00pm EST 17 Jun)
BAH that's 10am PDT.
But the way they have it set up, isn't it that they have a version for non-paying owners, and once you pay, it unlocks the other features.
no the website just has a membership that gives you faster downloads... and the non membership makes you wait like 60 second befor you can download it once you press download... it doesn't take that long to download anyways... no matter what your getting the same file

Sorry, I should have been more specific. When 2.0 came out last year, Apple also had 1.1.5, for people who did not want to pay for the update. If you were to not buy 3.0, is there a different version of 3.0 for non-paying owners?
If you guys are trying to get the GM release for free imodzone.net/download has had all the betas + GM for all models available since the first beta.
Anyway, when the official copy comes out, there will be problems but I wonder of how significant the speed difference may be with 3.0 vs 2.2.1 on the iPhone 3G.
Also, you don't unzip. Just remove. If you do unzip it you risk messing up the .zip file... so please stop fighting with everyone on the board.
P.S. I saw you on eBay.

Well i guess i dont completely get what your saying.. but this is the update you are suppose to pay for and technicly is illegal that we don't, but we won't get in trouble if anything the people who posted the download for everyone online will, but they probably won't eather.. anyways its 3.0, it says so on my ipd now, i have the spotlight feature, the cut copy and paste, landscape, and and we finally get street view which is kewl... and theres a few other things on there... but yea.... its the 3.0 you would be paying for through apple.... except free...

FYI, the iPhone has not launched yet in China. Hong Kong is a Special Administration Region of China (after the British handover) that is self-governing.
In Hong Kong however, 3 HK implemented a special MMS server over 6 months ago especially for iPhone users to retrieve MMS only. If an MMS was sent to your number, the message itself would sit on the server with an assigned pin number which is sent to your iPhone via SMS for retrieval. All we had to do was click on the link (portal) and enter the pin to retrieve the message. This was their workaround for retrieving MMS. Obviously no MMS outgoing.
This is the difference between being a proactive carrier vs. pure laziness (*cough AT&T *cough)
