Right now I am syncing my ipod after updating to 3.0 from the links. One change I notice is the "Encrypt Backups" in iTunes. I have to finish syncing to see if it actually works. But so far so good.

you downloaded 3.0?

you downloaded 3.0?

I downloaded it from the links that were provided in this forum. Right now I'm syncing all my music, video, and apps, so I don't know if it actually worked. But I will give an update when I am done syncing.

FYI, the iPhone has not launched yet in China. Hong Kong is a Special Administration Region of China (after the British handover) that is self-governing.

I know, my expat friends who live in China are always fond of pointing this out.

Is it the official release version? Let us know how it goes. Good luck. :D

Dumb question, but because I have the iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed, if I re-installed it on my iPod touch, and when the public version of it releases on iTunes; could I technically restore to it, thereby downloading the official public release of iPhone OS 3.0 without forking out the $9.95?

One thing to note about the 3.0 "final" floating around the web since last week. I just now noticed this when going into the settings on my iPod touch 2G:

You may just want to wait until the official release.

Pretty much every modern IT device's firmware can be and IS updated these days, and no other major manufacturer had the cheeky idea to charge for it with the same excuse as Apple.
Apple is not THAT special, u know ... :)

Do you know how much my iPhone is going to cost in total with the contract well over $1,200, plus my apps are about $180 or so. An iPod touch user only has to pay $300, hardly anything compared to the price I will have paid, thats why I think its a good thing Apple made it free for iPhone users since we pay so much more money for our contracts etc.

my downloaded version from last week "osen't" have that.

I just "cold booted" my touch and the "ource" and additonal page went away. Weird. I've also noticed some other quirks like my videos not showing up, then reappraring after I hit the Home Button then enter the Video app again.

I still have NO idea why software updates for the iPod touch are different than for the Apple TV. The official speak from Apple is that the iPod touch is not a subscription device while the Apple TV is, because the Apple TV brings in revenue through movie and TV purchases/rentals

hmm and do you know how much i pay each month £42.95 or about $70.00 every month, I expect updates to be free in total my contract will cost well over £1,200 about $1,900. So how is it confusing??, iPhone users pay a heck lot more for there devices than an iPod touch user pretty much tripple.
