At those prices it looks like I'm going to continue being iPhoneless for a while longer. :(

Well thats a little more then I expected (I though £300) but the unlimited data thing makes up for it :D still I'm not one to toss a spanner in the works but, I know for a fact 02 don't allow any sort of email access on pay as you go plans other then mobile web mail services (you know via a web browser) anybody know if they are going to let o2 Pay as you go customers email via the iPhone's own email app?

This beats ohmac, I'm buying one Legit, I don't care of the prices, I am buying one :)

The hell with OhMac prices. tho, you get a better deal with o2, and a lot of customers of ohmac havn't got there products yet.

Since feb last year I have been wanting to get an iphone. After all this wait and now its finally available on PAYG on the 16th of sep... MY BIRTHDAY!!

I guess I will be getting myself a long awaited shiny new iphone first thing in the morning. :D

As long as o2/Apple don't balls it up again....... :D

Guys, just for comparison (for those deciding between contract and PAYG):

Contract: 16GB £159.00, £30 Tariff (18 Months). TOTAL = £699.00

PAYG: 16GB £399.99, £10 Internet (6 Months, after the free 12), £10 Usage (18 months estimated minimum phone/texts). TOTAL = £639.99

That is assuming that you change your phone after 18 months, and don't use it for that much each month.

Also, with PAYG, you don't get Visual Voicemail or Call Merging... I'm glad that I gave in and decided not to wait for PAYG. These plans are worse than the leaked ones!

Maybe it has been asked already. I'm with O2 at the carphone warehouse and my contract will expire in february and due for an upgrade in december. If i buy the iPhone with no contract, would i be able to use it with my sim and adding the internet bolt on or it will still be locked to the O2 carrier?

Just got off the phone with O2. They've confirmed (the o2 iphone technical queries team that is) that you can use any other contract sim card from o2 with the Iphone PAYG. The 3G will still work. You will lose is the visual voicemail and "the cloud" wifi hotspots (£7.5 if you want to add it as an extra).

I'm thinking...I've got a contract with O2, the very same one that comes with the Iphone, only with 1000txts insted of 500. Because of a special deal I am paying £10 a month insted of £35.

Plus, for those who saw steve jobs announcing the new 3G Iphone, you will know that the difference between wifi and 3g speeds is not that big, so loosing "the cloud" wont make much of a difference. Visual voicemail and call merging? How many times am I going to use it? Not many.

I think I've just saved myself £200. It was worth the wait

Does anyone have any information as to when the iPhone 3G will be available on pay as you go for O2. Have decided to definitely get one and just debating to just take the plunge on O2 contract or to wait for it to come on pre-pay and hopeffuly a software unlock will be available by then which lets me use my current Orange sim to which i have a really good contract on.

Any ideas on prices? Thanks in advance.

Part of the o2 deal is unlimited data which is quite important if you surf the web allot. The prices are very high per MB you download, if your using another sim card watching a youtube video could use up most of your call time, not sure if you are covered for data/web on your card

So even though its PAYG, theres still a 'minimum top-up' each month? or am i reading it wrong?

Its quite misleading the way it looks on the o2 page, it does appear as if the £10 is a requisite for monthly use, I thought that too at first. Maybe they presented it that way to con people into paying at least a tenner.

So i am going to buy an old 2g IPHONE (any one got a good deal??)

then buy the 02 Simplicity 25 for £20 PM with the web bolt on.

Then this will work in the old iphone? will i have to re regester it at all??

So in a nut shell

Iphone 2g and simplicity 25 tarif will work fine and well with web browsing on it and i wont have to unlock it or do anything??

What about if I purchase a an iPhone 3G on PAYG and activate it in store as required, then when I get home throw the PAYG SIM out and pop in my O2 Simplicity SIM?

Would this work at all?

Yes it will, but it might be an idea to get the unlimited data bolt on (which is a free option on Simplicity 25 and above. :)

Yes...if the phone itself wasnt unlocked when you got it (which most ebay phones are)

any one got a 2g one that i can buy cheap

Yep, I've got that. Sorted, glad it will work. May wait until a few people do it first just to be sure :p

I've got a 2G iPhone which I originally activated, jailbroke and unlocked to use with my T-Mobile PAYG SIM, but have recently switched to O2's Simplicity Online 25; I swapped out the unlimited texts for unlimited web. So it works out at £20 a month for 600 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited internet (subject to T&Cs of course) and it works like a dream.

Whilst in the US recently I was lucky enough to be able to pick up a 3G iPhone which is currently waiting in the wings ;)

I really want to get this as a birthday/christmas present. You don't think o2 will run out of stock before mid-October, do you?? I really need to know if it needs to be purchased before then.

I'd be suprised if stock doesn't run out on launch day, everyone and their Grandmother will want 1 of these!

Not at the stupid prices they are selling for, I can get a laptop with Linux for £150 less then the iPhone, or one with more RAM and Windows XP for £50 less then the iPhone... I would prefer the Linux laptop, thanks!

..... everyone and their Grandmother will want 1 of these!

Probably, but will they be prepared to pay the asking price? Somehow I think that sales will be disappointing, especially as the economy has taken a dive and increased energy, food, and mortgage costs are making a lot of people feel pretty poor.

I agree, i really don't think there's any chance of PAYG iPhones coming close to the kind of sales we saw on launch day.

We'll see I guess, but I'd be surprised if I'm able to walk into a store on the 16th and just pick 1 up, it would be very interesting to see the number of sales Apple/O2 are forecasting.

well, my local CPW was out of the iphones last thursday. Gona go down to the local O2 store quarter to 9 in the morning to get mine, hope they have white instock.:)
