i like how the iphone words on the back are chrome like the apple symbol now. nice :)

I placed the order on the 11th and mine has shipped. UPS says it is in Hong Kong now and that it will arrive tomorrow, 6/17. I don't see how that can be true - I live in Maine. The Apple shipment notification says "delivery by June 22"... hope it comes before the weekend.

Hmm ... yet mine says delivers by the 19th ... what is going on!

UPS should be able to hold them. They did it for the Harry Potter books. I think a company as big as Apple should be able to manage the same thing.

The bookstores where required to hold them. They had the shipments for a while before release. Also mine still has not shipped.

I can confirm this as my wife worked for B&N at the time. UPS did not hold the shipments (and the distributers would not want them to as the UPS employees are the #1 source of leaks of such things.)

I'm not sure why people are surprised about getting the phone before the 19th. Nobody's talking about getting it before the 17th, which is the date that really matters (Apple anticipating load on their shiny new push service.) If you take into consideration the wording of the shipping promise "Delivers by the 19th" then you can clearly see it could come earlier.

Frankly iPhone 3G S doesn't make as big of a splash as 3G. There's no new App store, and the only notable new online feature is the push notifications which have had a large developer base testing it prior to launch for a while now. I can't imagine Apple having any special reason to care if people get their phone on the 17th or 18th.

Bummin'

Got order confirmation from AT&T on June 8, about three hours after WWDC announcement. On June 9, got email that it was backordered! This does not jive with other posters that ordered days later. Maybe because it's through my corporate account? Wonder how long I'll have to wait.....

Figures

A brazilian would get it first. Why can't someone who knows english get it first this is the crappiest video ever made. :(

Me too....

My UPS tracking number link says that mine is supposed to arrive on time, on Wed the 17th. I don't know how that's possible, since my shipment was logged as departing China at about 4p EDT. It has to be at the local UPS distribution center by about 6a to get delivered tomorrow. I hope it's here, but don't know how it could be. We'll see.

When should we expect reviews to come out from Mossberg, engadget and the likes? Not till the 19th or does apple usually let them release reviews a little earlier?

Damn you people getting it early! It wouldn't let me select a shipping method only in-store pickup :(

I'll join the fun on Friday I suppose.

Maybe at the time they were backordered, but you know the assembly plant in China has gotto be pumping these things out at max capacity, 24h/day. So maybe they've gotten caught up or that was the plan from the beginning? Just a guess.

I don't know if anyone of you have noticed, but the 3GS carries the same baseband version as on the 3G(04.26.08). Having in mind that the iphone dev team has it unlocked this is more than great news.

I think the baseband is tied to the firmware version, not the hardware. FW version 2.2.1 had BB 2.30.01. FW 2.2 had BB 2.28.01. OS 3.0 beta introduced BB 4.xx.xx Is it possible you installed OS 3.0 on your 3g?

Edit: Well, it's looking good: My UPS shipping link has updated with my iPhone arriving in Anchorage, AK @ 4:13p EDT.
Cool!! :)

I haven't even got my shipping notice yet this is some bull...:mad::mad:

Yep. Mine just got to Anchorage too. Same shipment, I'm sure... Wonder how many in that shipment...

I am wondering who is selling them unlocked or if buying a locked one can be unlocked by reinstalling the software again ??
There are several countries selling the 3g factory unlocked (I got mine in Prauge). I don't know who (if any) will be selling the 3Gs factory unlocked. I hope someone does because i plan to upgrade mine with a factory unlocked phone. Every phone has a unquie number that goes into Apples Database and updates the phone via iTunes. Once the number is in the database, the phone is unlocked. My understanding is that you cannot change it through software on the phone. Here's a link for the 3g. Not sure if the 3gs will be the same.

You might be more than right, I am making my conclusions out of the fact that when the 3g was first released last year it carried a completely different baseband version(correct me if I am wrong) than the 2g.

You are correct. The first phone with firmware / software version 1 came with baseband named 1.xx.xx. Software / firmware version 2.0 (which came out with the 3g) had BB of 2.xx.xx which changed with each point release. Apple would update the BB to close the hole that the dev team was using so they would have to find a different hole to exploit.

uh-oh...mines in the this AK shipment too...but expected delivery date has disappeared...there is none listed, like it's not even a field on the UPS tracking sheet.

Mine just updated to Anchorage (1:48pm) as well. However it no longer says 6/17 as the estimated delivery date and only says "In Transit" not "In Transit - On Time".

Am I the only one that thinks the UPS delivery dates are wrong? That they will all be delivered on the 19th but its just a bug in UPS' computers?

Anyone know if signature will be required? I have taken Friday off from work to be home when it's delivered.... now I'm not sure!

I agree. I predict they will be delivered on Friday. I don't know for sure, but it would surprise me if it did not require a signature.

Package scanned in Anchorage, Alaska @ 1:48 pm local
Ontime shipment for the 17th

Just realized that the shipment arrival time is no longer showing on the UPS tracking. Wonder if this is the big delay?? Hold till Friday? Or UPS and Apple are tired of taking calls about it?

This no longer specifies the scheduled delivery date. Prior to today, it said the 18th as the scheduled date. So now I'm back to expecting it on the 19th.

Still, having it on the 19th is awesomeness to me. No lines!
