Man i wish i could order mine :D too bad i have to wait around for etisalat to get it

So this is how it works.
The packages are being shipped from China, probably going to Louisville to clear thru customs. Once the all the individual shipments that make up the one big shipments arrives they will be cleared.

So does that mean they will be held in customs for a day or two (delay them until the 19th)? Or does the tracking information reflect the time spent in customs?

Do you guys think the list will be same with the 3GS too?

Calm down, you won't have to go to a store. I'm in the US, and on the 3G launch date, despite the supposed requirement of in-store activation, AT&T sent me home without activating because their network was down. It still worked fine in iTunes. Furthermore, I'm sure I saw somewhere where Apple says you'd activate it in iTunes yourself for online orders (but can't find it at the moment.)

Anyway, it makes no sense at all whatsoever to sell these by mail-order and then require people to go to a store to activate when Apple's got a perfectly good at home activation process ready to go.

The packages will be cleared through customs as if it's one big shipment, at one time, on one set of customs docs.

The tracking info takes into account customs clearence. Barring some unforseen customs hold, it will be delivered as scheduled.

The tracking information reflects when the current transit time allows or arrival at the final destination.

It does not represent a guarantee, just the normal behavior of UPS and their time estimation.

So, if there is no special situation of holding the device til Friday for Apple's sake, then it'll arrive that day (barring any unforeseen events.)

The delivery date is pending normal customs clearance. So as long as there are no issues with customs then it will be delivered on the scheduled delivery date.

my new iPhone 3G S....

WEll while I was checking my UPS tracking number, I, too saw that my iPhone is going to be delivered on June 17..... 2 days prior to launch date. Probably Apple originally tried to launch it the same day as the 3.0 software release and make a huge party out of it, but for some reason I'm guessing they wanted to be on the safe side and give it a 2 day extension to make sure EVERYONE gets the iPhone 3G S AND on time. I dunno.....just speculation LOL:D congrats to all you new iPhone 3G "S"ers !!!!! CAN't WAIT! :apple:

Not having the entire world activate at the same time makes a lot of sense to me, but I'm not going to speculate.

As far as I'm concerned, until I see "Out For Delivery" when I track my shipment through UPS, I'm assuming I'll see it on Friday.

You're not correct, just partially. You can get it for $399 ONLY if you are 18 months into your two year contract. Otherwise, if you are less than 18 months, it will cost you $499 for the 32GB version.

That's fascinating, since I can upgrade for that price today, 11 months into my two year contract.

I have an iPhone 3G and while it would be nice to get the iPhone 3Gs at a subsidized price, I do realize that my phone is not paid for yet and that the contract I signed with ATT is no different then what any other carrier would require me to do, including the blessed Verizon.

I agree that everyone needs to stop whining about not getting the early upgrade price. But hearing this argument over and over makes me want to cringe because one - it's not true, and two - it opens the door up to the whiners to say "but my phone IS paid for, see how much I pay every month!"

The problem with this argument is that it is totally meaningless whether the phone is "paid for" or not. All that matters is that you have a contract and because of that contract, you have an iPhone. Whether ATT wants to rip up that contract and let you renegotiate for a new one depends entirely on them. They are under no obligation to do it for you even if you pay $1000 a month for it. Your monthly bill does not go to paying down your phone. It goes to honoring your contract with ATT, period.

How Apple was able to keep these phones under tight wraps without anyone so much as doing a hands on review or leaks is freakin' amazing.

I know. I was trying to help you out. You seemed confused. ;)
Nah, I probably just wasn't making myself clear. Because I've being agreeing with you the whole time. The only thing I've been trying to explain is this let's say there are a million packages in the shipment and 500,000 of them arrive in Louisville today, they will not be cleared until the other 500,000 arrive.

Ahh, gotcha. Generally speaking though, single shipments aren't usually spread out over multiple days.

Once again you are correct, but with people on here saying that theirs shipped yesterday, while others are saying that they haven't even received a tracking number, that leaves me to believe that if this is one big shipment then those who have already received a tracking number will be left waiting for those who haven't.

a bit off the subject but...

does anyone have an idea of what time 3.0 may be released by apple for the 3G tomorrow? Im in the Uk.

I don't understand how this will happen(atleast to me).

UPS says my phone will arrive to me tomorrow(the 17th).

The last update was it departing Shenzhen, China yesterday at 3:30 PM.

There's no way it will make it to my door tomorrow.

Keep in mind ... depending on where you are located ... yesterday in China could be two days ago. China is 13-15 hours "ahead" of some places in the USA for example.

i.e. - It is about 5 p.m in NYC right now on 6.16.09, and yet Shanghai it is probably approaching 6 a.m. on 6.17.09 (rough example ... didn't verify the exact times).

I this really all they got?! Take some example pics and video! Do a speed comparison test!! Finally somebody gets their hands on one of these things and they show us some bs stuff. Although those apps load damn fast ;)

Hah, they used to be much better at it. Back in the day, you'd have no idea at ALL of an apple product coming out except for the day it was announced. Moreover, even the processors (G3, G4, etc) were kept under concealment until the announcement.

Ah how I miss the days of Steve-Note presentations that included the emphatic refrain:

"...launches...TO-DAY".

I remember watching a keynote in a Chicago area Apple store and LEAVING with a brand new iSight the day they were announced. The good old days where a keynote meant something that was likely ALREADY in the stores!

Such is the price of success; there would be deaths if Apple announced and iPhone with immediate availability ;-)

My 32GB 3GS says 'Prepared for Shipment'; so I'm holding little hope of getting it before Friday.
