BOOOO for no dock...I called and asked online with 4 different ATT employees and the ones I asked online said they had to research it and they ALL said it came with a dock!!! That makes me upset not to see it in the box.....

Anyone now reconsidering upgrading due to this photo?

This only reconfirms my need to see one in person before making any decisions (sorry wife - who is drooling over my gen 1).
I heart my iPhone. Add the App Store & 2.0 update and it will remain an incredible device... whose backside does not smudge.

I wonder if this will spur more white iPhone 3G sales?
Or more case sales?

This is the sole reason why I liked the aluminum backing.

Guess we'll just have to sacrifice Aluminum for getting rid of the horrendous half silver half black look!

But seriously I would have preferred aluminum myself. Come on SJ do something like MBA to the iPhone as well! Maybe stick the antennas under the glass!

While the smudging is pretty bad, part of the packaging could include a plastic protector strip on the back of it. If that wasn't removed and everyone in the store was handling it, that could be the reason for all of the smudging.

For all those worried about the smudges on the back: The smudges on the FRONT are what will drive you nuts! Whether you choose black or white, you'll be constantly wiping the smudges, fingerprints and ear-goo off the face of your iPhone every few minutes. Annoying? Yes, but that's just part of the iPhone experience. If you are that concerned about smudges on the back, then perhaps the iPhone isn't for you.

I used to have to wipe mine about 5-6 times a day. A few months ago, I applied an anti-smudge/anti-glare film that I bought at the Apple store.

It has been phenomenal for me. I wipe maybe twice a week. Some don't like the feeling of knowing there's something covering their screens, but I'm actually glad that I have it. Wiping all the time is not something I'm into.

Lots of us have white MacBooks, and we ALL had white iPods in the beginning. I'm leaning toward black, but I'll put a film on it.

I wish the front of the white model was white as well. Then it'd be no question for me which one to go with.

The Apple site has listed the contents of the box for a loooonnggg time.

I don't currently have an iphone, but dont you get fingerprints on the silver of the original one too, doesnt anythign thats fairly sleek attract fingerprints like crazy?

Its only fingerprints, you get them everywhere, you going to be interacting with the phone through its screen or just looking at its back? pervs...

Oorrrrr...

May apple can create a plastic backing color scheme that isn't hi-gloss black that shows all those smudges! My five year old, plastic encased cell phone has a gray/black plastic color scheme and no smudges!

Apple could get off the artsy fartsy kick and put out a similar device if they wanted to!

Fingerprints...ughh

Anyways, disappointed that the options are terrible for Canadians - so I'm not nearly excited as all of you are for this phone.

Ah - if only he could.

However, to circumvent the fingerprint problem (I figured the plastic backing to be fingerprint prone, just as the original iPod Nano), I ordered an invisibleSHIELD from ZAGG - hopefully it'll do the trick.
