When I first saw this pic, my first reaction was "that's a strange place to attach the security cord." Possibly a camera? I'm not trying to start a rumor but that would be cool if it was.

... Shaking head in disbelief.....

This is a smidge off-topic, but I've been wondering... why didn't they make the front of the white iPhone white? It seems like it should've been that way since that's the part you'll be looking at the most, but the black and white iPhone look exactly the same from the front.

I think that for videos, a white front might not give enough contrast, making it hard to watch. I don't know, just sharing thoughts from other MR posters.

alright, i haven't read about anyone else noticing this, but there's no way i can be the first...

THOSE BLACK BANDS ON THE SIDES OF THE SCREEN!!!! between the metal "frame" and the actual screen of the iphone, there are these two thin black bands. now i'm pretty sure the screen itself isn't smaller than that of iPhone 1.0, so does that mean that iPhone 2.0 is wider??

The fingerprints aren't a big deal because you can always get an InvisiShield. But still, why wouldn't they give the plastic a fine texture?

very slightly wider and with a less thick chrome surround.

No. The bezel around the edge is thinner than the first-gen iPhone.

That's a good catch. But I think it's the chrome frame that has been thinned.

Here's the white iPhone I want:

WhiteiPhone.jpg

+1

I'd take one in a heartbeat.

And btw hail to the white iPhone. I'd prefer white over black any time, as I'm still loving all my white Apple products.

I also love my white Samsung LCD-TV. Looks so much better!

Nice And Smudgy!

I wonder why they veered away from the aluminum back casing, bad call IMHO, however was probably based on cost?

Either way the plastic backs make it look cheap and those fingerprints! Looks like it will be a whitey for me if I "upgrade" from my gen1 iPhone.

As long as those 2 little screws on the bottom of the iphone near the speaker/mic allow one to remove the backing, I am sure 3rd parties will make replacement backings in all colors of the rainbow.... PLEASE OFFER ONE IN ALUMINUM!

White is the new black. I'm getting a white one. The smudges will have me cleaning front *and* back all day. I'm already neurotic as is about all the earjuice prints, don't need more housekeeping chores, too f..king busy already. :p

Yikes

I just want to know if it's gonna be worth the extra coin.

I mean, is this going to be a waste of money?

I'm really luke warm about it.

They might have made a bigger one or something to make it interesting.

pretty boring IMHO

Now if there's tons of neat apps...........

oh my gawd those pictures gave me a GIANT boner!!!!

i can't wait to go home and rub one out. i think i'll just do it here at work.

Tínhamos que ser os primeiros... [We just had to be the first... It's no wonder, we have a cellphone-per-capita ratio bigger than one! ]

Now Steve Jobs will have to learn how to fire people also in portuguese. :D

São despedidos!
("You are fired!" in Portuguese - courtesy of FreeTranslation.com)

Thank God it's free cause it's just plain wrong.
"Você está despedido!" is the correct way. ;)

That is, indeed, the correct form. I think I should just point out why ;) : in some romance languages, namely portuguese and spanish, there are actually *two* different "to be" verbs, one for intrinsic qualities and auxiliary use, "ser" (literally, in the "to be or not to be" sense, as in "she's tall"), and another for for the current state of affairs of anything at the present moment or at a given period in time (thus trasmitting a sense of duration), "estar" (as in "How are you" or "the glass is half full").

This makes english-to-portuguese automatic translation virtually impossible, whether free or not. Also, english speakers, be they native or not, usually find this utterly confusing and portuguese speakers, on the other hand, may find english difficult to comprehend at times, as the verb "to be", in english, can only be understood in context. In fact, some ambiguities remain in english which have no counterpart in portuguese as we can say, for example, "she's cute [today]", without having to add the "today" part, whereas an english speaker cannot.

The person should have washed his hands before handling. :D

I just hope he is not a cook/chef of some kind!

Ahahaha, esperemos que não seja, senão está lixado com a ASAE :D [Let's hope he's not, otherwise he'd be in trouble with our very own FDA-like hounds, much mocked by everyone here because they keep shutting down popular but (allegedly) improperly sanitized restaurants — most people just think they're being too anal and that they're also endangering many traditional products and places, but in some cases, it's good they're setting some standards already]

I want to know if the speakerphone is actually usable now!!!! Hopefully those posters will say something about it in Portuguese which I cannot read and, thus, won't know if they ever do, and then will ultimately wait until I get it on Friday. Still, speakerphone blows right now, I need a good one! Come on Apple....

Hmmm, no luck for you... They're just basking at the coverage they're getting and making bets on whether their server will hold up... :p
