I'd like to think that people here have a little more common sense than to think only one person has handled this iPhone. We're not sure how long that person has had it, how many people have handled it and if they made any attempt to wipe it down after handling it. I think the white vs. black should be based on color preference and now "how something will show up".

Everybody should be using a case or a holster of some sort with this iPhone anyway. If you take care of your iPhone, it'll stay looking fresh and clean.

what kinda crack have you been smoking? that reply is completely off base!

I think you meant "should not affect...."

You mean, like the (millions of) white iPods we all had? And white MacBooks? And AirPorts? And Time Capsules?

Yeah, ok. White is too feminine.... Keep repeating that to yourself -- while I enjoy my white iPhone that hides those ridiculous smudges.
Thanks for the spell check. I type fast.

First of all, the only white Apple product I own is the Airport Extreme that is in my office hiding.

Also, the white of the iPhone 3G is just too overwhelming. The white on the iPods were never too overwhelming to me. The backs were still aluminum as well.

Also, the current design of Apple products seems to be getting away from white, so they threw a curveball to us consumers by releasing this white iPhone.

I don't think it looks BAD, I just think it looks a little feminine.

this is a perfect example of why i hate tech companies. they fixed nearly every hardware issue with the first iPhone...and then botched up perfection with a big slab of glossy black plastic. I mean WTF. id rather have that black plastic thats on the bottom of the original iPhone. thats just as unscratched as the silver part for me and mines been naked in my pocket since day 1:rolleyes:

I guess i'd rather have fingerprints than lousy 3G reception...if that's what it came down to, anyways.

Interesting how Apple thinks. If you wanted the better MacBook you bought the black. However with the iPhone if you bought the better phone, you get to chose the white. Go figure?

On a side note: I've not heard one comment on this, but with the iPhone at the new price point, why should anyone pay more for an iTouch, that does less?

Keep in mind, you are seeing this phone through the eyes of a camera, and flash photography.

When I first saw the picture of the new nano on Apple's website, I thought it looked odd (fatty etc)... when I saw it with my own eyes, it made sense.

None of you have seen one in person yet, and some of you aren't buying one anyway so just slow down.

I'm definitely getting the white iPhone. I hope it's made out of the same kind of plastic that the MacBooks are. My white MacBook still looks perfect after almost 2 years unless you look at it in the light. Only then does it reveal its scratches and smudges (and a lot of 'em too). :p

I am kind of annoyed there is no dock included, but oh well I'll just buy one when I pick up my phone I suppose.

I'm a little more annoyed that they don't include Universal Dock inserts. It looks like on the iPhone specs page that you have to buy them as an accessory.

This is a smidge off-topic, but I've been wondering... why didn't they make the front of the white iPhone white? It seems like it should've been that way since that's the part you'll be looking at the most, but the black and white iPhone look exactly the same from the front.

And a couple more smidges off-topic :)o), but I think it's odd that Apple put "3G" in the actual product name. They don't usually put new features in the actual product name - like instead of just "iPhone" it's "iPhone 3G". Apple didn't call the 2nd gen iPod "iPod Touch Wheel" or the photo+4G iPod "iPod Color" or the 5th gen iPod "iPod Video" (although everyone else did), they just called all of them "iPod".

When I first saw this pic, my first reaction was "that's a strange place to attach the security cord." Possibly a camera? I'm not trying to start a rumor but that would be cool if it was.

Let's try:
No contract
No monthly bill

for starters.

Please don't buy one then.

By looking at those fingerprints, I will probably have to buy one of those Invisible Shield sticker things. I really want the white one but I think it will look boring with time and knowing myself, I won't settle until I get rid of it, so to be safe, I will go with the black one.

It just makes me wonder if the white is actually prettier in person, because Apple only released it in the more expensive model...

fingerprints...

You don't think it's full of fingerprints because EVERYBODY in the store has touched it, do you?

C'mon folks, the current iPhone is full of fingerprints. I'm constantly wiping the face on my sleeve. Who cares. The phone is going to rock.

I hope Slingplayer is available on the APP store on day 1.

I agree - aside from looking feminine... it just seems a bit childish and unprofessional (at least to me).

Disclaimer: This is not to degrade any forum member who wishes to purchase a white iPhone; I agree that the white color certainly has an allure of its own, but simply put - it's not for me.

I guess i'd rather have fingerprints than lousy 3G reception...if that's what it came down to, anyways.

Very true - here's to hoping for better reception.

I have signal woes in NYC (from time to time); it's nothing too onerous in making the casual phone call, but I reckon that when signal drops-out it sure is incredibly annoying.

My premonition in April ...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/465197/
My conspiracy theory is that it's real.

Why?

Apple iPod products usually have one huge drawback. They look old and look like they need replacing very soon after basic everyday use.

Case in point:

Why does the NEW (Video) iPod Nano have a polished back when the old one used the Mini style full aluminium wraparound?

Because most iPod Mini's still look like new! (Several years later)

By changing the iPhone back to 'super scratchable' Apple will shorten the products life and sell replacements quicker. Done. Shame though.

Wish I hadn't been right though. Ah well.... To all the 'White will Look Dirty' people, Got a 3G iPod 40 GB in Drawer... Still brilliant white, and (4 years worth! of) scratches hardly visible... ;)

Ehh, very cool but I've decided I'll sit this iPhone out. I'll save about $1500 dollars is I get the LG Dare.

My mum has an 'iBook G4' ;) And I've got an iPod Touch...

Why have the security cord attached to the back and front? Is it concealing a front-facing camera?

stop crying about fingerprints. they are a good thing. why? let me tell you. i have lots of electronics and none of them are scratched up. fingerprints. yes, i leave fingerprints be. they protect things from being scratched. i never place my items anywhere except in an empty pocket or on a charger, something like that.

fingerprints act almost like those screen protectors do. obviously if you are not a careful person things will still get scratched up. but fingerprints do offer a very subtle form of protection from scratches from smaller particles.

My guess is that it's related to the two screws on the bottom - meaning the back can be removed and hopefully the battery can be easily replaced.
Just a guess tho.
