Having a play with 4.0 now, on a 3G.

Nice to see the camera zoom found its way into the 3G firmware, though I'd rather have had multitasking

Has anyone successfully paired a keyboard with 4.0? I can't get it to work and I'm hoping it isn't something they stripped from the 3G firmware!

Happened to me when I chose to update to 4.0 and had to little free space on the iPhone.

I get a "Preparing iPhone for restore" notice and then with the connect to itunes screen up, I get a screen flicker and it just hangs with a blank screen and after a couple preparing messages it gives up with an error 13 message and I have to hard reset the phone.

When I restore back to 3.1, I see a similiar screen flicker, but the Apple logo appears right after that. For some reason, it hangs before the Apple logo should appear.

I've tried this several times with the same result every time.

okay now it works.. it wasn't working before though

do you know where the wallpaper is stored? i wanna change it and see how it looks with different ones, but i wanna be able to go back to it..

I can't find it either.

Anyone tried syncing with itunes after creating folders? Release notes say the folders might get deleted after a sync?

Yes, mine were deleted.

OS 4.0 - Native Mail support for sending as MobileMe aliases

Has anyone been able to confirm whether, amongst all the welcome improvements coming to Mail in OS 4.0, there will be native support for sending as MobileMe aliases. This is high up on my wishlist for the summer update!

I just installed the Beta in my iPod Touch 2g, I knew multitasking wasn't a feature but is the iPod Touch 2g not allowed custom background wall papers? Mine didn't come with that default one, and I can't find out where you can add one manually.

I'd be really mad if that was another feature Apple intentionally prevented me from having just so I "need" to upgrade to a newer device.

With multitasking is there the capability to open multiple Safari windows at the same time? Kinda like the regular Safari "Open in Tabs" command. Every morning I have about 6 blogs I hit up and the Open in Tabs is indispensable.

Or like when I'm reading a news page and I just command click the articles I want and read one as the others load. Would love it if Mobile Safari could open more than one page at a time.

It already does.

At least on my iPhone. Just opened up six tabs and stayed on the last one and the other five all loaded in the background.

Have you gone to the Settings and tried to change your homescreen wallpaper?

Some are saying it's a bug and some people can change it while others cannot.

Thanks.

mine wasn't changing but then i restarted the phone and tried it and it worked. i was able to change the lock and home screen wallpaper.

I noticed that one of the slides from today's presentation said "iPhone Accessory Remote Control" -- can anyone confirm that this means we'll get full Bluetooth AVRCP profile support?

So far I'm impressed except for a few issues.

  • Folders - You currently cannot keep your folders after syncing with iTunes since it's currently not set to organize via folders. I spent about an hour creating folders and organizing my apps on my iPhone to only have iTunes remove everything.
  • wifi - Access to my home wifi network is now gone. No matter how many times I enter my password etc...it just will not accept it.
  • wallpaper - Currently you can only set the wallpaper via the setting menu. This cannot be accomplished via the photos folder.

running it now...

some things that i like:

- threaded emails
- i always hated backgrounds, but i like the default one Apple gave me :)
- finally! organized my homescreen with folders. the phone is smart when making new folders and naming them
- multi-tasking has been implemented perfectly. don't think i'll use it, but it's there anyways

things that are bothering me (and i can't complain because it's beta):

- searching through SMS/MMS does not work
- a little sluggish but not perfect. (pretend 3.0 on the 3G but not as bad)

btw.. new 'Notes' and 'Calc' icons. the shade on the phone/ipod and messages app is darker.

overall.. good first impression, however where is the default background stored? (the one with the raindrops).

It's not :/ You can get it on 9to5mac.com though

ugh i should heed the warning of not to use this beta crap on a phone you use daily. i typed in the wrong passcode and the phone reset itself then would just sit on the apple screen. had to restore. they should really let you roll back to 3.1.3.

Key phrase - "at the same time". I will assume he wants to open ALL 6 tabs simultaneously. Not one page at a time.

So I apologize now for my stupid question in advance. But here it goes. Brace yourselves..

So where can I download OS 4.0 Beta from?

those of you upgrading be careful if you have a passcode. they now have it set to erase all your stuff if you screw up your passcode just 1 time!!!! i hit the wrong button and boom phone had to be restored.
