iPhone 4.0 Beta Impressions?

Weird. I get "Exchange Account - Unable to verify account information."

I went back to 3.1.3 and it works, now back at 4.0 after reading people had it working and still can't get it to work. I get above error every time.:mad:

Anybody have any clues/tips to offer? Am stuck!

Microsoft Exchange on OS 4.0

I have had OS 4.0 for a few days now, I like to check the new OS out when there is one. In general I like it. I like the folders and the background wallpaper.
Only gripe I have is that I use Microsoft Exchange on my phone and although I accept all my invites and it seems to work fine within a few hours the notifications show that I have several calender invites i check and i have already accepted them previously.

Anyone else getting this problem

Oh and I know it is a beta and that there will be problems I am only interested, I realise that Apple will fix this issue soon enough.
 
I have had the same issues with the calendar invites. I am also having issues receiving phone calls occasionally. Seems like the phone flips to edge with 3g enabled. I can place calls and text. I know it is not a 3g issue my wife's iphone is on 3g sitting right next to mine. If i turn off the 3g and go to edge works no issues. Flip back on the 3g it works again for awhile then stops receiving calls again. Anyone else having issues receiving calls.
 
Hi there, Wonder anyone kind enough to help me register my UDID ? Really envy u all can try out version 4 that i wish i can try it out now also.

Yep. Calendar invites come back time and again. I'm also getting some call drop weirdness (more so than usual) I mean ;-) ).

Minor bug:

In the camera app, the little icon at the bottom left is blank.
No picture from the camera roll is shown.
It was working fine before but then the camera app crashed and that happened.
Not a big deal though.

i encountered a bug for the camera app as well. after using the camera app a while, if i exit it and come back to it, the option to select between video recording and normal phototaking will dissapear. usually resolved by terminating the app from the dock and starting it up again.


@PeteLP and dyn: ah. ok. that would make more sense then. lol. sorry for the confusion.
 
Anyone figure out a way for 3G users to get home screen wallpapers working? Can we fix the file? Can we run 3gs firmware on the 3g? There must be some way to fix the bug and get the feature!
Also, i would love to here some workarounds and the experience 3G users are having with the beta software so far. Please post!
 
little help please. i got a developer to add my UDID to their device list and ive downloaded the 4.0 firmware.

ive never jailbroken my phone so im new to the whole installing firmware scene.

basically if i hold shift and click restore i can select the ipsw file. will everything else such as contacts info/ settings and game/ app settings saves still be on the phone after i install the 4.0 firmware?

im also a little worried with stability of 4.0 and not being able to take my phone back to 3.1.3 if i find 4.0 too unstable.

If you're worried about it don't install it. This is for developers to start working on their apps not for people to upgrade early.
 
I am not sure if this is a bug or just something I ran across. I moved many of the default applications into a folder on the home screen (most I don't use often). Of those I moved in there was "Photos". Now, if I go to Photos, it loads OK, and I can see my pictures, UNTIL I try to see a full sized image then my phone not only doesn't like it, it totally resets!

Has anyone tried moving the Photos app into a folder and see if that causes problems?

Update on this, it seems that once I took a picture, the problem doesn't happen anymore.

Yeah my calls drop out too an the phone reboots. Very annoying. I don't mi d bugs in beta's but the phone not working is not one you expect.
 
SSL VPN support was one of the things advertised under the "enterprise tentpole"

I'm not seeing SSL VPN support added in OS 4 beta. anyone know whats up with this?

I would guess that since it's an early beta, the feature hasn't been added yet.
 
I know that it's not completely in thread, anyway: from where can I download a trusted version on iPhone OS 4?

I get the exact same error on 4.0 too. Oddly, I have a hosted GMail account set up as an Exchange account working fine. The problems only start to occur when I try to add my work emailaccount, which is Exchange 2007.

Download the iPhone Configuration Utility and view the Console tab as you add your Exchange account. Also, check the event viewer on the Exchange server if possible. I've done both and this is what I get:

The only way to run iPhone OS 4.0 is to become a paying Apple Developer; firstly to legally obtain the firmware image and secondly so you can associate your iPhone with your account, otherwise your phone won't activate once 4.0 has been installed.

A friend of mine is a developer and he has registred my UDID on his account. Anyway he hasn't told me where to get the firmware. I suppose I should ask him... or can you help me?
 
My impression on 4.0

I didn't have any problems with 4.0. I'm not a dev but i got in contact with one. I installed the sdk and everything was fine. But here are my impressions (Cons r in red)

Wallpaper - works great. I love havin a custom background behind my apps
Can't find the default waterdrop one. Once you change it, its gone forever i believe.

Folders - My favorite.
After about half an hour organizing my apps in folders, I connected it to itunes..FOLDERS DISSAPEAR!! iTunes does NOT recognize folders yet..probably wont until 4.0 is released to public..dammit..

Multitasking - I like jumping to diff apps that are already opened without having to go back to the home screen
Didn't they mention Pandora would be able to run when it closed? Music stops playing. Hopefully that gets fixed. Also, my iphone tends to run slower when theres more than 7 or 8 apps running. And it would be nice to quit apps in a batch rather than individually.

Apps - Default apps run well. Still waitin to use Game Center app.
Some apps i've installed from the store crash or are very glitchy. Went thru about 4 twitter apps to find one that wouldnt crash. TwitBird works very well so far.) Text messages r pretty glitchy and buggy! Messages get sent and received just find but it flashes up and down to previous messages for about 2 seconds and then goes back to normal. Anyone else have this prob???

Camera - I love the zoom and auto focus on video
Theres no zoom in video recording..I thought thats one of the features that were mentioned, or am i wrong? Camera takes a while to open up
Well I'm still not seeing 100 new features. I'm guessing they're still working on them. I hope.

Well that's all i found so far. Please feel free to add any objections or impressions or if u agree. I just wanted to get that off my chest and share.
I WOULD like to go back to 3.1.3 and then go back to 4.0 when its available for everyone but I do not want to risk bricking my iphone 3gs. So i'll just stick with it. >.<

Edit: Damn, had to restore my 4.0 because I was trying to downgrade and failed. And realized EMOJI DOES NOT WORK ON 4.0. Cannot change keyboard settings to Emoji. So pissed.
 
Alright, I'll admit I've only read 6 pages so far so maybe it got answered, but can anyone answer this question, why can't 3G multitask with 4.0?

Just curious (as I have a 3G. Probably doesn't matter as I most likely will upgrade as my contract runs out in fall but I'm still curious and I may not upgrade if it isn't much of a change, I'm kinda on a budget).
 
Another random question

Anybody know if one can sort notes alphabetically in OS 4.0? Sadly this is far more important to me than multitasking, wallpaper or folders...

Nope, hardware will just absolutely crap out if they were to allow it. It is a simple .plist "mt=false" stopping it. However, Apple is not one to do things if that feature is not 100% perfect.

You obviously don't understand how "multitasking" on the iphone will work.
