I knew this would happen but I figured people would make them out of glass but just in all diff colors. Never thought of aluminum as an option. Its a good idea for someone that wanted white but doesnt want to spend $100+ to get the actual apple white piece. All the reds I saw look too pink to me tho. ill keep an eye on this thread so we can see if they effect signal at all.

Without a protector, I see the likelihood of paint scratching off of these cheap backs. The OEM glass has the paint on the inside, so it can't scratch off in your pocket.

That may be but for $20-40 you can't really miss here plus you can keep your original back in brand new condition to help the resale value. The official apple back could cost around 100-120 right now. There are cheap and as long as they work I wouldn't feel bad ruining one. I rather ruin it than the phone.

I knew there'd be replacement backcovers when one of the teardowns showed that it's relatively easy to change the backcover.

Anyway, wasn't the metal cover from the first-gen iPhone dropped, because it hindered the phone signal?

Ive never had a problem with the signal on my 2G. Best built iPhone they made.

I just orderd one of these cases from Hong Kong off eBay. Estimated delivery time is 15 days though. I'll be sure to post pics if no one has already.
I've been waiting for these things since I found that the back cover is a single piece.

I'm hoping major companies will cash in on this and do some nice alternate glass versions with awesome designs. Failing that, a clear one would be awesome so you could put your own design behind it. Kind of reminds me of that old Nokia which had those colour inserts lol, gross.

Best guess is Chinese Google translated to English.

Metal cases wreck signal, especially GPS.

Right... if the antenna was inside the case. But since it's around the border of the phone, the back doesn't have the opportunity to cover up the antenna which is the only thing to kill signal. Signal isn't degraded by just sitting close to aluminum. Aluminum is not kryptonite.

Not quite :) :)

This will obviously be better than the Element Case aluminum bumper which shrouds the antenna but, being in close proximity, it will still have an effect, however minor, I would guess.

Whoa. Love these. Anyone know if this will void the Apple warranty or even a SquareTrade warranty? And if I do change the back and/or put the old back on (assuming I take the phone back to Apple or ST for something), is there any way to tell that it's been changed or tampered with?
