Very good point.

That's why you save the original backplate and put it back on if you have to take it to the apple store.

Think, people! :p:D

Just taken delivery of mine and installed it.

Looks very nice (metallic red), however the flash completely ruins photos now...hmmm!

Will post pics up later after work

Just got mine in the mail today, it's not aluminium but plastic. The finish is matte and it seems solid enough.
Fitting took about a minute, no trouble at all.

The Apple logo and text seem to be some kind of transfer and dont feel that rugged and will probably scratch off. They look good at the moment though.

Does your camera work like it did with the stock backplate or are you having the same issues that others described?

Seems my flash wasnt working correctly when I was taking pictures earlier. I am indeed having the odd flash problem due to the lack of a difuser. Bit of a shame seeing as this case is awesome.
I'm not too bothered as I take most pictures in the day. I'm sure we'll see difusers in the future.

I'm more than happy with my purchase and I intend to buy a few more so I can swap and change them to suit my tastes :D

i'm not sure why i'm even replying to this thread since in it i've been called a jerk because i didn't immediately post pictures and even banned for my rather nice replies to hostility (in posts now deleted) but here it goes...

i received a pink back plate for my wife's phone from one of the chinese ebay sellers last week. the piece itself feels very much like the iphone oem back in terms of weight and appearance. the housing construction is good and the plastic screw tabs felt solid. i didn't look at it enough to determine if the plate is made from aluminum or plastic but i'd lean toward the latter. i noticed zero signal or wifi loss. ultimately this point isn't relevant as to why you should practice caution in making this mod.

while the globaldirect white (glass) back photos i had posted in another thread exhibited some flash bleed, this pink back had nothing short of ridiculous amounts to the extent that the camera lens is engulfed in light. the hole of the lens must be a bit off as well because a slight pink tint is noticeable in non-flash photos (see first dos equis photo). with the flash engaged the replacement back's color encroaches into the photo and makes a mess (second dos equis photo).

the back looks good and feels as if it would survive more drops than the oem back but it definitely comes with its costs. until these replacement backs are made from glass and perhaps with a bit more care i'd recommend that they be avoided.

These are glass and are the whole back housing.

Thank for you posting the pics and solid review pete. You answered every question I have about these and I'm sorry for whoever was name calling. Completely inappropriate. Thanks again.

Compared to that pink one, mine is clearly from a different manufacturer.
Mine has a matte finish and is slightly sparkly. The logos and text looks like it was sprayed on (albeit very tough as I've tried to scratch it)

As for the aluminium ones, I've got a silver one on order from another seller on eBay as it looks rather nice. I was hoping the place I get all my parts from would sell these but they've told me that they have no current plans to do so. Fortunate for me though, they do sell diffusers as they sell the OEM black/white back covers.
I might pickup a couple diffusers and fit them to these cases.

These are glass and say they have the mounting bracket. Only $34.99!!!

That's way cheaper than the $100 people are paying at Globaldirect and iresq. Wonder if they are a legitimate full back housing?

http://cgi.ebay.com/IPHONE-4-4G-HOU...GLASS-RED-/220650147133?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

On their website they are only $29.98

hey, thanks for the site! just ordered a white back, hoping its not cheap quality. one thing i never understood was how every single back on the website was advertised as "glass" when some of them had leather or the aluminum material...

Do you know if it has the flash difuser?
