What I don't get is how do some people get through, either on Apple or ATT and others are left with nothing resembling progress? I am no network wiz, but I wish someone could explain it. I am patient and will wait if that is what is needed, but don't go opening up your site to ordering and not have a good way to manage large requests.

can only pre order iphone 4 on AT&T's website for business, not a regular wireless account, I've checked several times, it's not available yet. But my gf, who is on a business line, has already pre ordered hers. Yet another fail.

This whole process is running about as smooth as Steve Job's WWDC keynote this year...

I'm on a business plan and don't see it.

FINALLY got through and got an "Oops, something went wrong" page at the shopping cart stage. Got through again, and ONLY store pickup was available...trying again. This is ********.

Both Apple.com and AT&T seems to be screwed. I guess I will just go to my local AT&T store tomorrow and be sure it gets shipped directly to my house and keep my $30 unlimited data plan.

I'm a devloper. I buy an iphone so i can test my code. Now you can go say, as your hero Steve Jobs say, go somewhere else, but it is not that simple. Apple has 90+ % of the mobile app market and if i want to make money i have to play in their world. Which of course the way they treat us is anti compedative but I don't expect you to understand that... So I don't have a choice...

This is wrong... Apple is out of control and the DOJ needs to step in. They did it to Microsoft and Microsoft did not pull 1% of the crap Apple polls.. But then Obama would never go after another beading heart liberal like Jobs... They are in bed together on their way to Cuba...

Sick, really sick..

Umm... Weren't you on your way out? To buy some Google phone?

And it's compeTItive.

Inactivity?!

I've seen the "Your session has expired due to inactivity" message within literally seconds of starting the order process. Occasionally I get as far as accessing AT&T for upgrade eligibility, but never further. So now I've got half a dozen tabs open each spinning on "please wait while we access your AT&T account information."

Bah. Think I'll go back to bed.

usually it takes some time to get the email confirmation, and by guessing the traffic that apple is getting at this time it might take even longer to actually receive the email confirmation.

Yeah it took over 10 minutes, crazy. Just got it. Night guys good luck.

After my order went through, it indicated the full price rather than the $199 subsidized price I confirmed I can get. I believe it's because Apple could not plug into ATT to get the needed info... so it defaulted. That's better than the whole reservation failing. :apple:

Keep trying...

I just reserved my second (one for me, one for my girlfriend). Took forever, but it finally went through.

Are you serious? All because Apple is doing protective measures to protect customers from identity thiefs and people getting ahold of their cellular accounts? You realize the reason Apple didn't do this with your "700 dollar iPad" is because that didn't involve ANYTHING with upgrading your account to a new phone with ATT. Seriously. If you really even need to ask that, then you aren't very bright.

Please. Go develop for Android. First of all, making assumptions about my personal opinions of Steve Jobs or anything in general about me is just plain immature. You're acting like a total child. And second of all, if you think YOU, a single developer, that probably hasn't developed anything significant to the platform, are somehow IMPORTANT to Apple....then you really oughta get your brain checked.

Guess what. I'm a developer too. Congratulations to me. I deserve Apple to bend over backwards for me, a single customer, because I think I'm the most important person in the world.

Narcissism at its finest.

And you know what, for some reason I would picture you to be the exact same customer cursing a storm at Apple because someone got ahold of your cell phone number and last 4 of your social, and got Apple to send them a phone with your ATT account on it.

Woahhh bud, I fully understand you're upset about apple's tough rules it sets. And of course, you're fully entitled to not give them business, like any customer does. But lets keep the politics to a minimum, especially where irrelevant.

With all due respect, as an attorney and former prosecutor, the DOJ has very little to do with what address Apple can ship to. Also, company "arrogance" is not a legal standard for antitrust laws - Microsoft had well over 90% of the market share. To this day, Apple has nowhere close. Won't bog down in the details of this, but there is a marked difference when you start looking at the details.

Lastly, I'm always astounded by folks who "bash liberals" but beg for government action. Which do you want? Do you want the government stepping in every time a company does something you think is wrong? Or not? :)

I know its late, i'm tired, the site is acting up and buggy, and i'm not happy about the process. But lets blame Apple if there are shortcomings; not President Obama.

After at least 30 attempts through the Apple site, I finally ordered through AT&T, but had to sacrifice my Unlimited Data grandfathered plan.

Cannot believe that no one had the foresight to expect this much traffic though the Apple site for pre-orders. Apple and AT&T ought to be ashamed (regardless of whose fault it is).

Why did you have to sacrifice your unlimited data plan?

Pre-Ordered a Black 32GB iPhone 4 in UK. £50 price bump was a shock, but I can live with it. SIM free makes my life easier as this will be going on my IBM corporate iPhone tariff with Vodafone.

Got through after several attempts on apple.com. Wouldn't let me "order" it, would only default to "reserve," which is what I wanted anyway. It said there "will be an iphone waiting for you that day."

Maintenance in Progress

Is anyone else getting the Maintenance in Progress screen on the ATT website when you click on wireless? It wont let me in, and when i try to upgrade my phone through my account it only shows 3GS

Well then you did it wrong. Near the bottom was a button under the old (grandfathered) data plan that said "Use Existing".

Done!

I was able to purchase two new lines on a family plan through AT&T. Not sure if that will screw me due to the limit of one perorder per household, but I hope not! My wife and I are finaly able to afford the iphone plans (with the new data pricing) so we would REALLY like to get them on the 24th.

I get booted immediately back to log in screen when I go to check upgrade eligibility. This is becoming a major cluster. Why don't these supposedly smart companies ever learn? Why don't us supposedly customers ever learn either?

just woke up and ready to purchaase, but its taking forever on apple.com, i would do it through premier... but i have $300 in apple gift cards.. err
