I think the cameralight app will be the closet thing we will see to this. These types of apps use some of Apples proprietary code, therefore prob wont be approved. These guys have said they subbmitted their apps days ago and apple MOSTLY approves within 24 hours. I hope it works out though, I really want this

This thing is pretty cool. I got a hang up the first night I installed it, and it wouldn't turn back on, but after a reboot it's been cool. I gotta say though, if this doesn't get approved, get it on cydia, and I'd gladly pay a couple bucks for it(that's when the phone is jailbroken), especially if you can get the white screen light to bypass the iPhone's brightness limit :D

Am I the only one who thinks that a free App with iAds will earn a developer more than a 99 cent App with no ads? Especially this early in the game. People are eager to try out Apple's iAds.

Personally, I'd love this App, but would never pay for it. I would, however, use the App, and check out the iAds in it.

Yeah. An app like this should be free.

Yes id like to try it out. I see it in the app store the other day and was going to download it, so wouldn't mind a little tester to sway me.

Hi Sherwin,

Are you able to create an app that lets me flash the LED as a strobe at a user-selectable Hertz ?

Yup -- we're adding that in an upcoming update... we're going to add a lot of features.

Btw, for everyone claiming they were "first" we started the whole Flashlight app thing back on Windows Mobile before there was any iPhone. See here:

I'd like to use this app!!

Is there a way to use your app before (or if you can't) get it approved in the app store?

This seems like a great app! As long as it strictly turns on the LED. I don't want to have to take video in order to use the LED.

Thanks!
B

If you have to open an app for it to work, it would be the same as opening the camera app and turning on flash for video, you don't need to record.

I just tried doing that and it takes 7 seconds and 4 steps:

1. Open camera app
2. Switch from Photo to Video
3. Tap the Flash button on the top
4. Tap "On"

With Power Light, it takes 1 step and 1 second:

1. Open Power Light

That's it. Light turns on.

Here's another feature I'd like…

I'd like there to be a way to have the light turn off after a configurable amount of time. Sometimes, when traveling, I would like a light that stays on long enough for me to find my way to bed in the dark. In the past, I've gotten enough brightness from leaving email open and letting the screen go to sleep after 60 seconds. Using te LED would be much better.

Good luck getting this approved. I hope they let it through.
