Thats the video apple has on their site as an HD video recorded from their new iPhone 4 in 720p.

it looks the same on my computer screen. I hope that you are right, fingers crossed. Can anyone find a better example??

I think it looks damn good for a camera that size and not all that different from the EVO sample.

I can understand if you weren't happy with either of them (they're not the best thing in the world) but I'm utterly confused by the fact that you think one is so much better than the other.

um is the op a motorola worker?

im confused completely, maybe he watched a bad version of the hd video recording.

go ahead and get a droid, i have one, its a piece of CRAP.

If you think the choppy FPS of the EVO is better than the video on Apple's site, then you probably don't deserve to watch anything in HD anyway, as you're not able to appreciate the quality!

You took a picture meant for a small size on Apple's website and blew it up the size of your TV and are complaining that it looks bad?

Watch the video on Apple posted above. If the EVO video still looks better to you, you may need spectacles.

Agreed. The YouTube video of the EVO is overcompressed for the size, and it shows in both the low frequency areas (blockiness) and the high frequency areas (color noise). It could be YouTube there as well.

The Apple shot has similar problems in the low frequency areas (blockiness in the sky and water), but the high frequency areas look a bit better. That said, it'd be better if they actually released full-frame footage rather than something they resampled down and compressed again.

Some of you guys still fail to realize wether you watch the video on youtube or apple it's still not a 720p video! I guess we won't find out until the iphone4 is released.

1. I am trying to have a serious conversation.
2. No I don’t work for any phone company or provider

I started this by searching the web today for a sample of the iPhone 4 hd video recording, the only sample I found was the one I posted. I was so disappointed that I started looking for the competitions examples to reassure myself apple was going to be the best of the bunch. Then when I found an example I was again disappointed in apple.

No I did not take into consideration that one file may be compressed and the other may not be. I am not flaming apple I really just wanted to find a link to a full high quality example of the iphone 4 video recording.

For the fourth time, I really hope that apple is better than the example shown

This thread is ridiculous. The iPhone 4 video you posted was of a video from apples site that was downloaded and then reuploaded to YouTube...compressed by YouTube, and not even done in HD.
You cant really be serious asking this!

I figured this thread was a thinly veiled attempt at a "why the eve is better than iPhone 4" thread.

The youtube link looked dreadful, but the Apple.com video is smaller so it doesn't look as bad but its also terrible. I couldnt imagine watching that lousy image on an HDTV. The EVO video is clear and less jumpy, but the framerate is dreadful. Both fail.

As others have mentioned, comparing two videos uploaded to YouTube is a WORTHLESS comparison. YouTube will transcode your videos and downscale to reduce bitrate.

One thing to keep in mind when comparing videos actually recorded w/ iPhone vs EVO is that the EVO never ever gets up to 30 frames. In low light EVO records at 10 frames. So even if image quality is similar (it isn't iPhone blows EVO out of the water from what I have) iPhone wins by default because it maintains 30 fps.

EVO 720p recording is a joke, the FR jumps up and down depending on lighting and you end up with GARBAGE.

By all accounts, folks at WWDC said the footage shown on screen looked phenomenal.

From Engadget's liveblog:

"11:03AM Video recording looks amazing. The quality is extremely impressive.

11:03AM Big applause for the video. It was pretty stunning."

The default recording on the iPhone 4 is h.264 at 1280X720 @30FPS.

To the OP : Please search for a video on the internet that complies with the above spec. Then you will see. However you won't be able to see the true nature of the video until you watch it on an iPhone 4.

I would agree Hefe that the example is a bad one, but its the only one apple is giving us. And on their site it says "recorded in hd" Like they are all very proud of it, so OK I will check out what they are so proud of, and boom, it sucks... I am not the one who posted that as an example of the high quality video recording capabilities of the new Iiphone, they are (apple that is)

and No I dont think the evo video was that good, I was just shocked it was better than the apple axample.

Please if anyone can find a link to a good example Post it here
xxx, please :)

I just did a google search of this
iPhone 4 is h.264 at 1280X720 @30FPS
No luck for me

The average bitrate of a 720P video is 13,619 Kbps. There is no way you are going to be able to stream a video that size unless you have a HUGE broadband pipeline.

Just like last year you won't know what actual footage is like until someone releases homemade video. Even if Apple uploaded the original file you could still argue that they shot it in perfect light at the perfect angle etc. It's just an ad.

look if you are serious about recording your baby and not missing any "moments" then go and but a real video camera. phone cameras are novelty items, they are there for a quick shot here and there, if you base a phone purchase on how well it does video you're going to be disappointed.

I heard its not the size of your broadband pipe, its how you use it

I have a video camera, but with my large broadband pipe it wont fit in my pocket... Ok, OK, Ill stop with the inuendos.

I was just very excited because apple and everyone in the audience said the quality was so good. I am hoping for the best, my toes are crossed now also.

The Apple video is clearly not 720p res, as its not 720 pixels wide...

The 3G S video looks damn good, im just expecting the 4's to be even better.

Well that looks great, but somehow I dont think they recorder X-men with an iPhone 4 :p

Sorry I know that was a smart a** coment, thanks for the steaming link :)
