I have to agree that a camera phone, even the iphone 4 camera, will have some degree of compression. I would not use it for recording precious memories of your child. Most camera phones are only really useful for recording the cops when they are beating your ass with a baton at three in the morning.
:D

Let me ask you this, why did apple have real pictures from the new iPhone4 you can see in full beautiful pictures, why should i expect less with the video.
I guess anyone who looks at things with open eyes and asks questions, must be a troll to you :)
I don't know if you're a troll, but you are displaying troll-ish attributes. Right now, vid cameras on phones are very limited and are not suitable for recording precious moments of your child. Even those little flip video cameras are better suited.
Your unrealistic expectations for what you plan to use the iPhone 4 are beyond fantastical. Your expectations that someone has video from the phone defy any realism. That is why some people might think you're a troll.
Please wait until the iPhone is out in the wild before asking about video quality.

are you kidding me ? BIG difference from the youtube apple video and the video on apples site...

we are led to believe it's a hd recording but its been resized.... thats editing

Resizing. is. not. editing.

Their website claim is perfectly accurate. They don't claim unmodified, they claim unedited. Editing is splicing, adjusting, or otherwise changing the content of the video, not its output size.

Oh, really? I guess all those 60´/70´vintage cameras wasn´t suitable either back then, but people still used them.

Doesn´t anyone question WHY Apple isn´t showing us TRUE 720p samples???

That should be the main question here.

I'm not sure why people seem to be ignoring this, but you can watch the keynote in HD to see an iMovie that was shot and edited entirely on the iPhone. It's not exactly a raw stream, but it's a lot better than what they have in the galleries. It looks good.

I already watched the keynote the next day with crappy quality. I don´t want to stream/download/watch it again.

Why can´t Apple release the HD video on their site? Why is that so hard?

They have photos there with full quality. WHY NOT VIDEOS???

Funny how HD video recording was one of Apple´s big selling points, but no one has seen to this day an actual 720p video recording shot with iPhone 4.

Instead we have seen just one, JUST ONE resized crappy video sample. Very un-Apple.

And still no low light photos.

You can keep arguing that all you want, but it is in fact edited. Any alteration to the source material is considered to be an edited version. Thus says our judicial system.

Ha,Ha,Ha, OK Please show me one line or quote where I have given any hints to what my expectations of apples iPhone 4 video recording quality will be. (except my dissapointment upon watching apples crapy demo video)
All I ever said was I was dissapointed that apple said we have this great new feature and here it is, oh but this is a crapy example and not in full size, and blurry, but Oh ya look at how nice it is.

I went back and read my first post. My expectation was to be able to record important moments with my two year old daughter. Well since I am doing that now with my 3gs, Wow I am already exceeding my own expectations, it would be impossible for me to expect the same or better from apples new product??, actually the more I think about it your just being silly :)

My goal in starting this thread was to find out if anyone out there had a link to a real vid taken from a iPhone 4, for the sixth time, I hope it is great. I was just dissapointed apple wouldnt show us a real full size vid?/ Why not, they did with the camera why not the vid camera also?

If that makes me a troll then, That will be Mr, Troll to you

Thank you Bob, that is my question, where is a link to a real video. Dont tell me apple never thought we would want to see one??....

And another fanboy adds nothing to the thread.

This is as pathetic as it is ironic.

It's amazing so many people arguing over something this minor when it's a "feature" in a freakin' phone.

Buy yourselves a camera that does HD if you're that concerned with quality. I'm sure like most other devices on the market the output will be "good enough."

No, it's not very nice. It's jittery as hell. So basically what I'm getting from the videos Apple posted and now this one, it's great in perfect lighting as long as the person holding the camera never moves.

All these low cost sensors have no aperture control, so day-lit imagery has a very short exposure duration. For a phone, the quality is remarkable.

Here's a still from the video.
