Unfortunately, I was going to do just that but it shows in their system that I'm already reserved at a different location.

That really blows. If it looks highly unlikely you'll get your iPhone there any time soon, maybe you're better off visiting one of the Apple stores if they're carrying stock.

I also ordered from Base (on Okinawa though), and they have yet to get any 32 GB's in stock. They just today got their shipment of 16GB's, and they have no idea when they will be getting the 32GB's in. I am the first to pre-order at this location but am still waiting.

Learned my lesson, never on base again. ******

FYI, the Apple stores in Tokyo are full out of stock too, said they are no longer serving walk-ins and are only taking reservations. When I asked for a ballpark of how many reservations they had...they laughed. lol

My order for a 32GB iPhone 4 went through yesterday/today. The lady at the SB store/kiosk on base told me that it might be as late as the end of July before I get my phone though ... yikes!

I'm only the 4th person on the waiting list, but she said that she was told by her SB superiors that they only anticipated getting 16GBs in for the first few weeks because they're by far the most popular (due to them being essentially "free"). I did see about 20 of them sitting on the desk today, so some people around here will be happy :)

I'm hoping it will be earlier than the end of July, but either way I'm happy to get it. I'll just have to get used to all the differences (voicemail not being free, having to ask people to call me back rather than rack up the $$ on minutes, etc.). I think I'm going to become a good friend to Skype :)

Hello -

Does anyone know anything about internet orders placed on the 16th? My husband placed his order online on the 16th and still has not heard anything. No call or email.

I placed my order at the Omotesando store on the 16th and was able to pick my phone up on the 24th.

cheers,

According to some of the Japanese forum sites (2chan), not more than 10 iPhones 4 are being processed/distributed each day. This of course is depending on the shop... could be more could be less.

If you pre-ordered at Yodobashi Camera (Kinshicho) ... like in my case, iPhone 4 pre-orders from the 15th still haven't been completed due to lack of stock allotment. Yodobashi Kinshicho did not get any of the launch stock on the 6/24 and hasn't gotten any since then.

In the worst case scenario, some of the Japanese forum responders are saying it could take at least a month before supply catches up with demand.

In the mean time, it looks like we will have to wait.:(

Went ahead a put myself on the list at my local shop. I'm number 38. They expect it to take 3-4 weeks.

We'll see.

LOL, you inspired me to look up a few military definitions for DOA:

<snip>

You weren't kidding. :D
If you want to have fun, try to find the definition for securing a building. Be sure to check each service since they all have their own definition of what will happen. :D

Softbank service and 0120 numbers

Been very happy with the iPhone so far, and super happy with the response from Steve J's office in getting my issues resolved.

Anyone know if calling 0120 numbers using the Softbank White plan is free? I was expecting to use Skype more, but the Softbank 3G data around me is not very stable. I am often at full bars, but the Internet speeds are crazy slow.

Well.. Got my iPhone 4 yesterday near Kyoto.

Lovin' it, but I want to try out FaceTime. Is there an apple number for demoing it in Japan like there is in America? If not, any other foreigners want to give it a go?

I just want to see how it works.

There is a Facetime test number in the US.

If I ever get mine (which I pre-ordered on 6/17!!) I would be glad to test it out with you. I went back to my local Softbank shop for an update yesterday and the staff guy there just said he had no update at all and would call me as soon as it came in. He refused to make any projections on a timeframe.

It's really starting to annoy me now though. A friend in the states ordered his from AT&T on Tuesday and took delivery yesterday!

well i went and signed up to upgrade to the 4 today, they say there's over 10 people before me on the list, and that they are only getting 1 phone a week...so we'll see how this goes.

Finally!!!! I got my iPhone 4 today! Slow ass base Softbank store was starting to annoy me. I can't wait to really start testing this thing out now that I am home from work and can really start playing with it! I would also be interested in trying out facetime chat, hit me up if anyone is interested.

Which base?

I am on Okinawa, at Camp Hansen. I ordered on 6/16 as soon as they opened because they could not get it ordered on 6/15. It just arrived today and is the only 32GB they have received.

Hi again - Thanks for all your answers and postings. It is helpful to hear what everyone is going through.

Still no word from my husband's online order on June 16th. We went by the Omotesando Softbank store this morning to see if they could at least verify his order had been placed, but the guy told us the online orders and the stores were completely separate. So, no help there.

We then called 157 from my phone and pushed 8 to speak in English. The lady told my husband they cannot tell him anything if it's days, weeks etc. He asked if he could verify his order had at least been placed and she said she could not do that. He asked again and then she said she would ask her department head. She came back and was at least able to verify that his order number was in their computer, but no estimate at all of when we would hear anything.

Will post again when we hear more.....

Due to the current shortages, I think it's rather hard for Softbank to predict deliveries.

I checked with my local store. They were kind. They showed me where I am on the list and mentioned that they received a few over the past days. But they have no idea when they will get more, and when they do, which models and how many. I'm sure that it's a frustrating experience for the staff as well as for those who are waiting.

I remember years ago that you couldn't call some 0120 numbers from mobiles, probably because it cost the companies with the number too much, and with some 0120 numbers you still got charged. That may still be the case.

I am often at full bars, but the Internet speeds are crazy slow.

You're probably holding the phone wrong. :D

It could be a special offer. I doubt that FON would be giving their routers away for free. They're asking for $99 in the US for them.

It's because they are trying to reduce the load on their network. FON is a good idea because it not only means you can avoid using 3G at home, but also when you are near the home of anyone with one.

I live on the 30th floor, so I doubt anyone walking by will pick up my FON.

It's like how they gave us access to the wifi hotspots around Tokyo at Macdonalds and a few other places. I guess it's cheaper for them to strike these deals than actually increase in infrastructure. Although they did just put a new cell on my office building.
