Reserved mine for Apple Store pickup next Thursday with a bit of difficulty, due to the site dropping out (and the shoddy network connection here).

Still, reserved!!! :D

Wow, after the 3GS launch that was a rather damp squib compared to the 3G launch I thought this was going to also be a bit more sensible, especially as we've just had the iPad launch (in the UK) and the iPhone 4 hasn't had much publicity compared to the 3G (outside the specialist circles of course).

Just goes to show!

better-than-expected??

EHHHHHHHH, wrong.

Exactly-as-expected

If a company as large as Apple, who has remade itself with this kind of release doesn't know what to expect at this point, something is very, very wrong.

I'll be here refreshing Apple store pages and shooping Jobs' face onto Hannibal from the A Team

/Love it when a plan comes together...

Staying on top?

I can't help but wonder about the whole Android catching up with iOS thing when I see these sorts of strories. It seems to me that there is no way the iPhone can remain ahead of Android in terms of total numbers - what with so many handset makers making Android phones. And yet, the iPhone and other iOS devices are selling massively well.

I just wonder if Apple really cares about being the biggest player in this market and, if it doesn't, whether or not it should. A big draw for the iPhone is the App store. But when Android has a bigger market share will the Android Market become an even bigger draw? Might the development community start to invest more there? Is this a race where the winner takes all?

No luck trying through the Apple site, but I managed to order mine with no issues through AT&T Premier (which I have access to through my work). I've never ordered an iPhone through AT&T before (my previous 2 were through Apple). I assume they'll ship straight from China still?

No luck getting past the authorization screen. cant get through to 1800MyApple either. Looks like smashing demand and a big black eye for Apple and AT&T.

I've been trying to upgrade my current line with no success. I was able to reserve one as a "new account" because it doesn't interact with AT&T at all.

Hopefully, if I show up at the Apple Store on Thursday they'll process it as an upgrade.

Complete and utter meltdown of Apple's reserve system. Not sure if the fault lies with Apple or AT&T (probably), but either way, it's completely screwed.

I clicked Check Out and the site froze up.. They knew people are gonna go crazy and should've upgraded the servers or find a different solution!! OR AT LEAST let me finish the checkout :mad::mad::mad::mad:

My order won't go through on Apple's site. I get to the point where I put in my current cell number and it attempts to verify with AT&T. I get a msg returned that it's unable to process at this time.

Very frustrating!

+1

Got mine ordered!

Same here. I had to order mine through AT&T (have a corporate account) and while it was slow, it went through with no problems. This was at 8:25 am EDT. A co-worker tried about an hour later and it took several tries. Even then, she got booted out of the system on the last page. Somehow it went through anyway.

I must say, I expected a lot of interest in the iPhone 4, but not quite this level!

I just wonder if Apple really cares about being the biggest player in this market and, if it doesn't, whether or not it should.

I hope they care about delivering the best smartphone experience.

As long as they are the benchmark for usability and desirability, their market share will always be strong in the top of the sector - where the prestige is.

I have just paid £500 for a phone - I want it to feel worth it.

I bet it's all the 3G buyers upgrading. :D

Rumbled!

O2 are offering £170 for my 2yo 3G.

took me a bit of tries to get it into the cart, and then a bit to complete the order. After that though got order confirmation on the site but no email yet.

AT&T no longer accepting pre-orders at the moment.

I have been error'ing out on both Apple's online and AT&T Premier's website to order two iPhone4's... It's a nightmare. AT&T's website additionally no longer displays the iPhone4 "Pre-Order" button on the website to upgrade a line on my account. The demand has far exceeded the previous iPhone's.

While I have no confidence what I am about to say will ever come to fruition; hopefully something can be learned from this and implemented with following pre-order and product launches.

The fix; create a tiered system. Starting with those who have fulfilled the requirements as set forth with their previous contract. They get first dibs on pre-ordering, purchase and activation. During each of those phases, give them a fair bit of time to conduct their business then introduce the Early Upgrade group into the mix. Followed by those you enable to upgrade early eventhough they would not have initially been able to do so without an adjustment to their account. Lastly, introduce those into the process who are going the non-committment or full pricing route if they just simply have to have the product.

Stagger the access so as to not overload the system. Reward those who fulfill the contact and show loyalty... and you'll keep them.

Seems like a much better solution than alienating those who have made the product what it has become and inturn explored the various other products your company has to offer.

Why don't you guys preorder by adding a new line, instead of trying to upgrade, then fix the issue later. I reserved two iPhones by just saying that I'm adding a new line, and didn't have a problem. Reserved, no 4 hour wait.
