No doubt, chief, but it doesn't pass a good customer experience towards a carrier that you opted to stay with after many had hoped for a change.

Got up at 4 AM EST. Typed my fingers to the bone between Apple and AT&T's sites. Had ultimate success at 10:30 AM EST on my last attempt before making a run for the AT&T store. Ordered three phones; when they arrive, I'll be king for a day! Very happy now but I need a NAP!

AT&T Seems to be Out of iPhone 4's

I finally got through to AT&T and there are NO iPhone 4's available for purchase. The only items available are new 3Gs and refurbs.

You know, I don't ask for a lot from this ****ed up world. I really don't. But this is so bad that even the macrumors forums are all bogged down today.

Why don't you guys preorder by adding a new line, instead of trying to upgrade, then fix the issue later. I reserved two iPhones by just saying that I'm adding a new line, and didn't have a problem. Reserved, no 4 hour wait.

How are you going to fix this later, you just agreed to purchase 2 new phones with 2 year commitment on new lines. They are not going to let you just cancel the 2 new lines and move the phones over to your existing lines.
 
EVO what? Droid who? Nexus where? The Engadget commenteers are going to pop a forehead vein when they see week-one sales for iPhone 4.

That said, I still haven't been able to pre-order mine on Apple's site. :mad:
 
Think AT&T is having the problem. When I try to order on the Apple Store, it gives the error while trying to get data from AT&T. And similarly, when I go to the AT&T site, I get this message:

there was a problem with your request.
P1015: We're sorry, but we are experiencing a system error that prevents us from completing your request. For non iPhone related upgrades, please call Customer Care at 1-888-867-4384 and provide the error number at the beginning of this message.
 
i have literally tried to order at apple.com at least 40 times. hasn't gotten past the at&t verification in a couple of hours. what a joke this is. I have a first-gen iphone and have been waiting for this for 6 months. so freaking frustrating. :mad:
 
Just imagine how much busier the servers would be this morning if there were white phones available to order as well. Good call Steve!

I'll bet with future pre-order roll-outs there will be separate pre-order dates by color! That's one way to spread out the server load. ;)

I got through the order process once and it gave me a 699 price instead of the 299 even though I am 100% eligible for upgrade. Been trying for 3 hours now to get this completed, fun morning eh?
 
ATT store in Cambridge doing manual entry

The ATT store reps were surprised to see a line outside their store this morning at 10am EST. When they tried to access our account info, they were hitting that P1051 error too.

The manager eventually switched us all to manual paper entry and the employees will give us a call when they put the orders through. They said end of the day I should get a call to confirm the details. We'll see...

I've been trying for the last 3 hours. Still no success. Such a frustrating day. Any advice? Any browser that seems to work better than another? Can you order from AT&T for in store pickup? I'll be traveling that day.
 
When I went through AT&T's site, it wouldn't give me an option to keep my existing voice plan.....So I have to wait for Apple.

yep, I ordered my unlocked iPhone from Apple no problem. Now I just need to decide which of the 4 (maybe soon 5) carriers to choose, contract-free.

I should be thankful I got in to get a 16GB huh? I really am second-guessing my choice because of the video/photo capabilities and probably should have reserved the 32GB, but I am now more convinced that I am glad I got something and plus saving $100 isn't so bad.

Good luck to all you others who are still hoping. I suggest waiting until later in the night when the servers are less stressed and AT&T fixes their issues.
 
i'm not saying that pre-ordering an iphone is the most important thing in the world - i'm saying that if you announce to the world that you can order something (and pay good money for it) have a FREAKING SYSTEM IN PLACE THAT WORKS.
