iPhone 4 Pre-Orders Bring Down Servers and Generate Long Lines

Once you all get past the authorization screen and lock up go to My Shopping Cart to resume rather than starting all over again. That's how I finally got it ordered.

Went to best buy this morning and was 1st in line to pre order! Was too easy. Was in and out of the store within 10 mins! Now they better get the phones on the 24th!!!!!

No luck getting past the authorization screen. cant get through to 1800MyApple either. Looks like smashing demand and a big black eye for Apple and AT&T.

There are worse problems to have then not being able to serve customers fast enough

Whether you try Apple or AT&T, it fails at verification, Apple and AT&T are stuck b/c the AT&T servers can't handle the requests.

Apparently they are too busy giving out personal information on iPad 3G accounts.

I walked into WestQuay Apple store (southampton, uk). Went up to a specialist, he logged me on to correct site. I pre-ordered 2 phones, submitted, 10 seconds later confirmed and walked out. I must admit i was surprised it was that easy!
Just luck I guess depending on server load at that moment.

I guess this is what the billion dollar data center is for...allowing anybody who wants to order iphone 5 to do so. in the meantime, its probably 20 million dollar data center that is giving us issues!

ATT Servers Suck

Even when I have just been trying to check my account the ATT servers are so slow that it is no wonder that they are having a hard time with a little extra traffic. This kind of thing should be expected and they should at least start a que so that anyone that wants one will be allowed, plus that prevents the extra million request being generated by frustrated "it failed again" users. They should have a pretty good idea of the total that their servers can handle. That way everyone get served and people know where they are in line.

Due to the recent release of the EVO and the upcoming batch of Droid phones, interest in the iPhone seems to be waning.

Apple should have gotten an upgrade eligibility list, attached them to all known users, and bypassed ATT and their horrid verification process. They'd have a ton of sales right now if it wasn't for ATT.

After about 5 hours of trying both AT&T and Apple I finally got my order for a 32GB Iphone 4 to go through. Man that was ridiculous...

Now I just hope it actually shows up on the 24th

O2 are offering £170 for my 2yo 3G.

Me too

Envirophone are offering £184 for a 16GB 3G, and they'll return it free within 5 days if you're unhappy with their evaluation. O2 only give you 3 days and a £14.95 admin fee.

For this reason, I'm going with Envirophone.

I bet it's all the 3G buyers upgrading.

Was thinking that too. I'm not upgrading since I just got my white 3GS replaced with a new one the other day. I'm just sitting back watching all of the action while waiting for the 4.0 software update.....and a 64 gig to come out!! Plus by then I'll be able to handle the black and white in person and know which color to get AND have my choice of cases.

But I feel people's pain--I was caught up in the 3GS craze since I still had my 1st Gen phone.
