Did they not plan ahead for this? I imagine there were teams tasked to make sure this didn't happen. Yet it always does.

i would but i have a couple of apple gift cards - have to do it through them.

They don't ask for money right now -- you could still reserve one anyway and then see if maybe later Apple's site will come around.

EDIT: OR at least, the Apple Store didn't ask for money -- wonder if that's true for AT&T.

Shouldn't it be "that easy" to buy an iPhone?

Thought that's all about an iPhone, about how easy it is... :D

On AT&T's site, I got as far as "Place Order" (the last button to click) and it timed out. Been trying to redo the order several times on both Apple and AT&T, but I just checked "Order Status," and it seems the the order might have actually gone through. Status listed as "In Progress"... guess I'll just wait. I've waited 44 years for this phone, I think I can hold out a little longer.

AT&T says money is due today but good luck trying to cancel the order as it's not in their computers yet. I got mine through this morning but it isn't showing up yet.

Your request couldn’t be processed.

We’re sorry, but there was an error processing your request. Please try again later.

V-E-R-Y F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-I-N-G

Come on Apple, take my $500 for an early upgrade

I should be thankful I got in to get a 16GB huh? I really am second-guessing my choice because of the video/photo capabilities and probably should have reserved the 32GB, but I am now more convinced that I am glad I got something and plus saving $100 isn't so bad.

Good luck to all you others who are still hoping. I suggest waiting until later in the night when the servers are less stressed and AT&T fixes their issues.

You can always modify your order after the madness dies down.

Am I wrong to think that if they can't handle the traffic to accept preorders that this does not bode well for at&t's ability to handle the traffic that all these phones are going to create?

Yes I know technically I'm wrong...but its indicative of how underprepared everyone is for these phones and the demand the create

Oh - I'm not trying to cancel my Apple reservation, I'm trying to put a 32GB on hold as well. The Apple Store rep I called said you can reserve 2 iPhones, so I'm reserving one of each (maybe) and will pick when I get there.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I've avoided this madness because I'm not sure whether to upgrade my 3gs. Not because iPhone 4 isn't impessive - it is. But AT&T has been worse and worse for me over the last few months, and I'm nit sure whether I want another 2 yr contract (with $350 eft!). I think I'll wait til the 24th and see how I feel then.

i have literally tried to order at apple.com at least 40 times. hasn't gotten past the at&t verification in a couple of hours. what a joke this is. I have a first-gen iphone and have been waiting for this for 6 months. so freaking frustrating.

I feel your pain, wanted to upgrade so bad, and have been holding my breath at every apple announcement hoping that the new phones would be a little closer.

What is the rush??

I don't understand why you have to pre-order this very instance.
Wait until tomorrow or the next day or the next.

User your brains people... don't be so stupid.

Apple.com
Apple store
AT&T.com
AT&T store
BestBuy store
Radio Shack store

Pick a place people. It's ONLY bad in areas where people live on top of each other.

I was able to reserve mine around 6:45 am EST, but my friend was unable to get through the pre-order/reservation page. Finally at about 9:30 (a half-hour after originally trying) she was able to reserve one. :D

Also, it seems that the errors lie on the AT&T side because it's in the authentication of the account and/or selecting the plan that the session goes awry. How is it that AT&T can botch virtually every iPhone rollout? How can they still claim to underestimate sales? Who hear has heard the mantra that it's better to be overprepared? Apparently not AT&T

waited on hold for almost 2 hours. finally an apple guy gets on only to tell me he can't help me. still can't get through online, either.

i'm wondering how successful outside the u.s. has been.

After trying unsuccessfully for 2 hours on-line and 1 hour 50 minute on hold with Apple CS (only to be told, "sorry, our Servers are off line, try ordering tomorrow")

Walked into my local BestBuy, filled out a request form for 16Gig 4G Black, purchased a $50.00 git card and have my name as #1 on the list for their allocation. I was told by the AT&T Rep that this store was being allocated about 30 hand pieces since the BB serves as the local AT&T Kiosk.

Feel pretty confident that they will get at least one 16 Gig for delivery on 6/24.

got through on the apple site at 6:45am CST to reserve one at the apple store. My friend has been trying since 7:45am CST and no luck.

Best of luck to everyone.

I have been repeatedly trying to reserve a 32 GB iPhone 4 and so far have had no luck; once i actually managed to get past the eligibility screen but then the system timed out on me. Grrrr!

This does NOT bode well for activation of the new iPhone on Launch Day......

AT&T worked for me. However they made it clear that it might not come on the 24th. So they are just taking names. Is there any way to see if mine will come on time?

Nagoya, Japan

I stopped by the Apple store at 4pm, an hour before they started taking reservations. There were about 60 chubby otaku Japanese guys in line standing in the rain, the guy at the front of the line looked like he was there since the morning with his camping chair.

I walked 2 blocks up to the Softbank store, which was empty. A girl on the staff told me that they were handing out numbers from 4:50. I asked her if I was the first person there for an iPhone reservation, and she said yes.
I sat on the sofa until reading a book until 4:45, by which time about 10 other people had strolled in and started to line up along the sofa.

I was called to the counter at about 4:57 and was out of there by 5:10.

Quick and painless. I wonder how long those guys at the Apple store waited for.....

Come to think of it, I might have been the first person in the world to reserve the new iPhone (woopee!)

Very Upset

I'm very upset that the Apple website is crashing.
