Oh Apple...

So everything Steve Jobs said about the newiPhone is smi-untrue.

1) Better glass for the screen and the back. Major breaking issues reported on test devices.
2) Better signal, faluse after some reports. Not likely just a software update. If it was software, why didn't they fix that before it shipped?

I have a degree in Chemical Engineering and have worked in the field. Let me add some experience to your questions and suppositions:

1. What kind of cheep [sic] factory did apple build this [sic] phones in?

The factory, and it's construction (cheap -:) will have little effect on organosilicate glue .

2. Who long dose [sic] a glue take to dry?

This depends on a lot of factors. Temperature, humidity and it depends on whether UV light was used to assist the curing. The process can take from minutes to days.

Remember, these phones are being built and air-freighted to the consumer in days, and not weeks.

Apple's explanation is within reason.

I'm not an engineer, but just wanted to add to the above.

The factory may have calculated that the transit time should be sufficient for all the yellowing to totally disappear, in 99.9% of the phones quickly shipped out. But these phones are going to be subject to different temperatures, humidities, etc. during transit that may affect this timing. It's rare that everything from a factory is shipped out practically right into the customer's hands, normally these phones spend weeks in the distribution channel, sitting on a shelf, etc. So the margin for error/variability is much less here.

People are underestimating the complexity of manufacturing millions of phones, planning for an aggressive launch date, etc. It's not nearly as simple as 'wow they should have better QC'. Hopefully the report is true, and most all yellowing will disappear in a couple of days.

The other option of course is for Apple to delay iPhone 4 release until August, I'm sure everyone would have been pleased with that. Or have an even more staggered release schedule, so that Canada doesn't get phones until December or whatever. Apple can be very aggressive with design and production, which is generally good but will result in occasional snafus like this (still much, much better than say RROD for example.) But both companies have been generally good with providing service which is just as important.

What kind of cheep factory did apple build this phones in ? , and how long dose a glue take to try ? as far as i know no glue takes weeks to dry , but for the persons who have this problem i hope it`s the glue and it fixes.

This ain't no Elmer's ;) There are plenty of adhesives out there, both organic and inorganic, that can take a week or more to dry. I've used a variety of epoxy resins and hardening agents that would take between 30 minutes and 7 days to dry. Often they are cured at high temperatures to speed up the process, but you never know what the specifics of the manufacturing process here are.

This is me completely speculating, but it wouldn't surprise me if they traded off cure time for stronger bonding, low distortion/refraction, etc, without anticipating the need to ship so many units so quickly straight off the line.

Um... what happened to this being a great big made up global conspiracy from Gizmodo because they're jealous of Apple and want to sabotage them?

If anyone claimed that it's ridiculous but it has to be said giz is definitely in tabloid journalism mode with regards the iPhone 4. Which is a shame as it only worsens the signal to noise ratio for those looking to find out about an issue and what can be done about it if they suffer from it.

Never buy the first batch of anything.

There is always bound to be issues. Especially on a device this new and this cutting edge. I have mine on order for July 14th but I am thinking of canceling and waiting another month or two.

All id like to know is, WHY THE ******* would steve jobs explain how the vaporation process works, IN A FORUM?

Lol

Sitting here drinking a beer. Took the day off to wait for my delivery. Come on FedEx! At least I'm not standing in line on the street. They said by 3:00pm...lets hope so!

Drinking beer on a Thursday morning..

Cool!

Just living the life huh? I like that...

Some fanboys refuse to believe this despite the evidence saying otherwise.

Ag2twins says: Thu Jun 24 01:00:24 PDT 2010I think you posted this to soon to be believable. You should have waited for the phone to be released to the public first. Nice try, oh and your source is that scum Gizmodo. They have motives to make Apple look bad after they stole the prototype from an Apple engineer. You so called "reporters" are sick.

Weeks? What are you talking about....

And let`s hope the glue will not solidify in a bad position or leaving marks or something.

I was among those that pre-ordered and received my iPhone 4 early yesterday morning. After using the phone ALL day, including watching two World Cup games on the phone and using it, yet again, for a few hours this morning..... I still have the yellow spot in the bottom right corner.

I now have the phone sitting outside in 90 degree weather so this so-called bonding agent can "dry". Sorry, but unless my yellow spot is gone by tonight...it's not going away and I will gladly replace the phone.

Hopefully the one I receive tomorrow doesnt have the same issue.
I was one of the first original iPhone users and never had an issue, sans the $500 purchase price.

They are made in China with cheap labor, what do you expect?
Once the phones are wrapped up and packaged, they wouldn't dry out when in the box and shopped to the US.

And possibly the screen being on is what's best at drying the blotches, so it would take some burn in time at the factory to do the job right.

Not for me!

The yellow spot went away overnight, but it seems to come back after using the phone for few minutes, every time, with the same intensity as yesterday.

I really hope it's a temporary issue, but it doesn't seem to get better in my case...
I thought it was gone too.. and depending on the background.. white being brown spots more noticeable... darker not so noticeable.

Please remember that humidity also plays a factor in drying times.
It'll take a long time for a white towel to dry in 80% humidity at 90 degree temps than 40% humidity at 90 degrees

To hear that all these issues reported are just temporary (or software-fixable) makes me more anxious in waiting to get my phone next month, when lines and drama die down

I find it strange that people claim it is disappearing after MORE use. My yellow spot goes away with less use and comes back again once the phone heats back up (which leads me to believe it's not ever going to fully disappear).

Maybe should stop camping out overnight and go shopping daytime weekend like normal folk.

so instead of the screen gradually falling apart (EVO), it is actually getting better. nice ;)
