The news is beginning to suck for trolls; the yellow issue is resolving itself and a simple case resolves the bar issue. Don't worry guys, you will ALWAYS have the flash complaint when discussing the iPhone.:apple::D

LOL! That was some sweet piece of humour there.

@ everyone reporting improvements: It'd be important for us to know if you've been using your iPhone regularly, or of you have just put it aside. Heat appears to make the stains appear more clearly. As such, using the iPhone and not getting the stains would be the true confirmation that your screens are effectively improving.

I just don't get how these phones were probably made weeks ago, put on a ship, transported around the world, put in a warehouse, then given to FedEx who sat on them until authorized to deliver them and after all that time people are waking up to find the glue has finally cured the day after they noticed it?

I'm not fortunate enough to have pre-ordered an iPhone 4, but I know from past experience that Apple frequently ships new products direct from the factories in Asia.

The final build of the OS was just released a few weeks ago, there's no way these phones were made before that & just sat in a warehouse until now.

I didn't want to say anything but I have one brown and one yellow spot on my phone.

The brown spot looks like Jesus, and the yellow spot the Virgin Mary. I am dead serious. Unfortunately, I only have the one camera, the phone itself, so I can't figure out how to take a picture of it, but I think I have something special here.

You should sell it to GoldenPalace for $50,000

It makes sense. If you look at the iPhone 4 video on Apple's site, you'll see that they put a drop of this stuff on the LCD, then press the glass onto the LCD, squishing the drop of glue all over between the glass and the LCD. I bet it takes a long time to dry, since the glue is spread across a large surface and trapped between two sheets, and the water (or alcohol or whatever need to "dry up") must take ages to seep through the rest of the glue. It's like paint, you paint something and the paint dries within a day, but you get a few drops of paint that stay wet on the inside for weeks. It's because the wet paint/glue is surrounded by dried paint/glue, making the process slow. I guess it's a new process and therefore they underestimated the time it takes for the glue to dry, not having enough time to test it.

I was among those that pre-ordered and received my iPhone 4 early yesterday morning. After using the phone ALL day, including watching two World Cup games on the phone and using it, yet again, for a few hours this morning..... I still have the yellow spot in the bottom right corner.

I now have the phone sitting outside in 90 degree weather so this so-called bonding agent can "dry". Sorry, but unless my yellow spot is gone by tonight...it's not going away and I will gladly replace the phone.

Hopefully the one I receive tomorrow doesnt have the same issue.
I was one of the first original iPhone users and never had an issue, sans the $500 purchase price.

They are made in China with cheap labor, what do you expect?
Once the phones are wrapped up and packaged, they wouldn't dry out when in the box and shopped to the US.

And possibly the screen being on is what's best at drying the blotches, so it would take some burn in time at the factory to do the job right.

DMann, you may have touched on the truth. What if the lamination process is hand-set and that splotch is due to finger oils when the operator lays the two layers together? A definite issue of workmanship, if true.

75% ?? What orifice did you pull that number out of? They sold 600,000 pre-orders alone. Have you seen 450,000 reports of yellow spots? Or are you implying that a handful of people out of 1 million+ (pre-order + walk ins) is somehow an adequate sample to make that determination?

Ok so 75% was a little much... but I still think a lot of the people picking up there reserves today are going to be upset when they find the same problem. And i highly doubt the issue is going to solve itself with use. Mine goes away, but let the phone heat up again and it's right back to the yellow. I'm just going to take it to the Genius Bar this weekend and swap.

great news!

well im positive my iphone will be spot free, but even if its not. its not like apple doesn't have awesome customer service. course i won't be the idiot demanding a trade same day, rather waiting to see if this few days on approach cures problem.

Is it me or do people need to stop blaming the bonding agent and maybe have a look at the way it is used? It is a very very very pale yellow to start off with, then it is diluted to 0.1-5% strength in other clear (water or IPA) liquids, then used. How does this result in the clearly visible browny/yellow marks people are seeing?!

It is a functionalising agent used to improve adhesion, not for actual adhesion itself - any solvents present are baked off prior to assembly, not after two bits of glass have been pressed together. Maybe the actual adhesive they use is dark brown, who knows, but it must be pretty dark for the extremely thin layer (try pressing two flat glass surfaces together with some ketchup between..) to show up as much as it does.

But these phones are going to be subject to different temperatures, humidities, etc. during transit that may affect this timing.

Also, does the plane have a pressure maintained compartment for the cargo (like for people on travel jets) or is it unpressurized? That would screw with curing.

I've never liked Elmers.

They should've used glue sticks.

Elmer's also makes glue sticks.

I haven't been seeing many reviews from those who received the phone today. Anyone care to share their thoughts of the phone so far? I'm wondering if maybe this is just a bad batch of iPhones or if these issues are going to affect everybody at some point. I pre-ordered an iPhone last week and I'm hoping I won't be experiencing these problems when it finally arrives. Not sure if that looks promising though.

looks like i have yellow spot all over bottom of screen...

lol....
hmmm...i shot white a4 paper.. i zoom it out and rotate it around
i have like 4 brown/yellow spot all over bottom of my screen...sad..-_-;;;

The yellowing on my 16GB iPhone 4 has gotten even worse now that I actually took it outside for the day using it in the sun and shade (temps were about 90F today). Using a few apps at a time the device did heat up qucikly.

Used the flashlight app and the yellow pea sized dot in the upper left corner has now started to bleed downwards in a lighter shade of yellow all the way to the bottom left corner!

Also, a new yellow smaller dot has formed in the mid/upper right mid-section of the phone and is also started to bleed downwards in a lighter shade. It almost looks like a streak.

Took the phone indoor in the AC for an hour to cool down and the streaks went away , but could still see the yellowish dots.

Then, took the phone back outside for an hour or so and the streaks came back and were much more visible.

This thing is getting worse the warmer it gets! It almost looks like smeared residue now once it gets really hot. Makes me wonder what type of petro-chemical I'm putting near my face.

I love the phone, and hopefully will get a new one at the store tomorrow.

I had a yellow band on the phone I bought this morning - I took it back this evening and they exchanged it without a second glance. I told them I had read a number of reports about the issue online and to expect more returns... :D

The glue theory sounds plausible but who knows - if not, really shoddy QC from Apple...

It's true.

I purchased my phone today and noticed in the car a slim yellow line. At first I was irritated but then noticed that line was only visible during certain functions (settings open, blank text screen).

After heavily using and synching the phone this afternoon and the line is gone. I have stared at it multiple times for over a minute and its nearly gone. It also doesn't show up all the time like it did.

I'm not worried at all. Like I said the line was only visible by staring at it at certain times, and now even less. I suspect it to be gone in the next day.

Or maybe they calculated correctly how long it would take to dry but since people got the phones earlier than the 24th, it didn't have enough time to cure completely.

Remember, no one was supposed to have gotten an iPhone until today but people got it a couple days early and started reporting the problem.

Yuk, minor yellow blotch bottom right corner..mild yellow streak across bottom of glass. I really hope this goes away with use in the next couple days. If not I'll try and find out about a replacement at an att store. when the phone cools down no use, it does not show. When it gets warm with use and heats up the spots come back. If heat turns the spots yellow...will this really go away in a couple days of use...I have my doubts.

Also if I get a replacement who is to say the replacement wont have the same issue. How about a little better quality control apple..jesus.

So guys check your screens after it heats up with atleast 3-5mins of internet or gaming use. If I check mine after the device has been sat down for a while and cooled no more yellow spots. re heats with use the spots come back! We shall see after a few days of use if the issue goes away or not. I don't think it will.
