Will it let you order a new line through the site? Back when the 3G was the new thing, my dad wanted to port his Verizon number to my family plan. Only it turned out that, when we got to the store, he didn't have the right account numbers to release the corporate phone number in his name. So we got him a new line, new phone number, then the following week called up AT&T and had them port in the business number to replace his 'new' number. It was a few extra steps, but way less painful than I was expecting.

Yeah, I got that on and off. Just try it again (assuming you really didn't mess up the zip). I also noted that that specific page was a bit wonky, after getting the above message, I tried entering my zip+4 and it just sat there when I pushed the button. Turned out it was trying to popup an error telling me to only put the 5 digit zip, it only showed up after I selected that entry field again (after several frustrating attempts).
 
I am seriously ***** OUTRAGED.. I spent HOURS online trying to pre order .. then at 10am went to ATT spent 2 HOURS there and pre order.. they did everything on paper.. now my status is BACK ORDERD i was there at 10 ***** AM.. i was one of the first and i am on back order.. i am going to cancel my order and just wait at an ATT store.

Yeah! Good idea.

Canceling your pre-order and then going back to buy the item later for the exact same amount will really send a message to them. :p
 
6:50 Pacific time, finally. It seemed to be getting worse and worse, meaning it was hanging earlier each time, and I was about to give up... and it just worked one time.

Reminds me of getting Blizzcon tickets three years ago, sitting in a rental car in Hawaii in a parking lot with hourly wi-fi, hitting refresh for an hour. Feels good when you finally get it.
 
So like I previously mentioned, I got my reservation in through AT&T (I happened to be driving right by an AT&T store at the time) about mid/early afternoon (2pm central). I've gotten the email from AT&T confirming my order and warning that "some customers" may get their phones after the 24th. Feeling a bit of angst, I went to the Apple Store online and went through the process to reserve one. First, I tried to upgrade my phone #, it came back and wanted me to pay full price ($599). So I tried my wife's number (don't really want to upgrade her, she'll get my 3gs) and it worked. Got all the way to clicking the "Reserve" button and then realized:

"What am I doing, am I really so pathetic that I can't wait an extra couple of day's if it comes to that".

I'd like to say that I told myself "heck yeah, I'm just that pathetic", but alas no. I slowly took my finger away from the mouse and slowly told myself that my AT&T order was good enough and if it slips by a couple of days, so be it.

Whew, I feel much better now :)
 
I hope this doesn't make another delay for other countries like the ipad did!
I don't think so if steve said they were making tens of millions in 2010 at the keynote

I think the problem with the iPad is that no one at Apple really knew just how popular this thing was going to be. Thus the reason for them announcing they would lower the price in the future if need be. With the iPhone however, you'd think by now, Apple knows it's a huge hit, and product wise will be prepared.

To get the second line to port, they recommended that I do two separate lines. Then, once the phones arrive, I can call and get the switched to a family plan. Works for me!

NYC Sold Out at Apple Stores??

I just got this from apple.com:

Currently, there are no reservations available. But you can still pick up an iPhone on a first-come, first-served basis at your favorite Apple Retail Store starting at 7 a.m. on June 24. And since you’ve already set up your account online, you’ll save time when you stop by the store.

It would not let me choose any of the manhattan stores....
 
i was right about to place my order for the 32GB iPhone 4 and i got the twitter about it being sold out... i placed my order and it never said anything about being sold out... i called att and told them i just place my order and they said that after 4:30 Central time, they were sold out and i wouldnt get my phone till the 25-28 depending on when i placed my order.... im super pissed right now!

Cancel the order and place a new one on apple.com. Next!

Agreed. It took me four tries in the US Apple Store, but it finally went through.

Four? I must have tried nearly 100 times.
 
I ordered 2 iphones from at&t but they had problem with one of my charge... so now im just going to cancel other one with them.
cant contact them to cancel yet......... errrrr to many calls

already got order on apple.com x2 instead.
 
If they are really on backorder than I am a bit annoyed too. Went to the ATT (had a little complicated transaction with corporate discount set up, upgrade my wife's line, than switch the phone to my line etc.). Was at 9 am at the store, nothing worked, server down. They took our information - at 7pm I got the call that it went through. So, I made the effort to be there as early as possible - and will get it alter...?! The store manager was on top of everything but otherwise - thios seriously sucks ATT/Apple, seriously, way to go. Try better next time - oh wait, this IS next time, actually next, nest, next time...
 
Only took 12 hours to get the order confirmation email! Have seen the confirmation through the Order Status screen since placing the order at 830am Eastern (530a PDT).
 
I stepped a friend through the process I went through to reserve mine.

He got a confirmation email after about 30 minutes, where I still didn't (and don't).

So, I tried again. This time, everything worked as it should have; I put in my mobile number, zip and last 4, and within a few seconds it showed the correct price and my current plan!

The bad news is that no stores for where I'm going to be on the 24th were available for pickup - arrrrrgh. They all showed as unavailable; it offered me stores near my billing zip but that's not helpful, I won't be there.

I then checked a few other zip codes, and every single location turned to unavailable, even the stores near me that had just shown as available a minute before.

So, thinking my original reservation didn't work. :(
 
I knew it would be busy today but geez, I can't believe this, I have been trying to pre-order off and on all day today since 5:30am, I finally get past the verification process on apple's website and get the following message.


"Make a reservation.

We were unable to complete set up online.
To finish creating your account, you’ll need to visit an Apple Retail Store where we can help you in person."


It showed the right rate for my voice and data plan, gee, the nearest Apple store is 2 hours from here. I wasn't trying to make a reservation in the first place, I was doing a pre-order.

My word. At 10pm EDT it's *still* all fracked up. Now I'm getting the "Oops" pages on checkout.

Just follow the link back to the store. The phone will be in your cart. A few checkout attempts later and you'll have it!
 
Got through around 9 am this morning, received my email order confirmation from Apple at around 7pm, I made the cut, will be getting it on the 24th. What a nightmare it was this morning.
