Well... while you're busy saving the world, I'm paying for a service. And for that cost, I expect my provider to support their end of the contract, just as any 'customer, provider' relationship. This isn't about how we spend our time, it's about expecting to receive the product that's purchased.

Listen to you. "I EXPECT!!"

That you expect anything is your first and most grievous mistake. Who knew there were so many Napoleons in this country, and they'd all buy the new iPhone? Shaking your tiny fists in protest over this is about as effective as anything you do.

I didn't really EXPECT you to counter my argument. And based on your response, I certainly don't EXPECT that you have anything of value to add this forum.

100kbps? that sounds nice. In my last three tests using 3G I've not managed better than 59kbps.

Blazing fast on the home network though but I'm not paying AT&T for my home network. I'm overpaying Cox Communications for that one.

Your rebuttle is a rather dull, irrellivant, and fallacious.

But you are learning.

The less expectations you have, the less disappointed you will be. More expectation leads only to more disappointment.

No, I'm afraid you've missed the point entirely, which is not that it doesn't exist, and not that it isn't noticeable, but that it doesn't matter. Yes, there is a large difference, no, it doesn't matter because you're not doing anything important, you're just wasting time, digitally masterbating. The technology is pretty neat, and it's not like there couldn't be important things happening, like, idk, a medical doctor downloading a chart, then uploading a diagnosis and prescriptions, or first emergency responders uploading location information and victim's injuries, or any number of actually important things that would make a positive difference in some peoples lives. Excuse me for not having any sympathy if your images upload crawls, your YouTube video stalls, your tweet is late, or it takes a few minutes to retrieve your email, but I have this proclivity for putting things into perspective. The issue is so inconsequential that it's hardly worth mentioning. Get over yourselves.
Someone is grumpy! You've easily spent 10 times longer trying to lecture us than most of us have spent griping. Way to go, Socrates. You obviously are much more productive with your time educating the plebs of macrumors!

Upload speeds

I seem to have the same problem off and on in metro Detroit. However on a positive note, AT&T finally added 3G to the southeast corner of Michigan (Monroe county), which is huge for me (I have been waiting for 8 years). I spend about 80 hours a month on call in a crummy hospital that has no wifi, and very slow censored internet on their computers. No forums, no streaming, no videos, barely email. Well to my surprise, July 1st and voila, 3G. First I noticed it by accident on my blackberry, then my iPad, and my iPhone. Wonderful, not full HSUPA speeds (about 1.5mbps down, 100kbps up) but ooooooh so much better than EDGE. At home in Oakland county (Novi), I get 2.5mbps down, 300kbps up which is more than adequate for my surfing and email. In the house we have 25mbps down, 2.5mbps up so I really don't use the 3G much.

Peace,
Noushy

Wow, BS!

I can't believe this.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can seriously put forth the theory that consumers don't have a right to expect the companies they purchase from to uphold their contractual obligations. It kinda boggles the mind, to be honest.

What would happen, by the way, if one were to stop paying ATT? A breach of contract, followed by a termination fee, followed by collectors and a ruined credit rating. What you seem to be suggesting is that ATT can extort the consumers money while simultaneously fail to deliver what was promised. In most industries, that would be called 'stealing'. But here it is apparently considered normal business, and anyone who expects otherwise is a 'napoleon'.

I would guess most people expect to get what they paid for.

Pretty decent for a WiFi. However, we are talking about AT&T 3G speeds. Upload speeds to be more specific.

Thanks for your input though. :apple:

Oops! Sorry about that. Unfortunately, my 3g speeds are not so good.:(

There is no theory, and I was not speaking against any right you feel you have. There is only wisdom. Expect — and be disappointed. What you have in your hand is what it is, not what you expected or dreamed it would be.

Personally, I have a hard time understanding all the animosity towards a company by it's customers. If you don't like the company or its products, then don't be a customer.

Lol ok - well one might counter that a consumer electronics forum focussed on a reported network issue might not be the 'wisest' place to try to instruct people on the benefits of living a life of Tao.

Then again, it's a bit interesting what passes for wisdom from some people. If you'd like to get wise - go here: http://www.35weeks.org. Be sure to listen to the message entitled '7 characteristics of a fool'... Might give you some things to think about. :p

Following your logic, a hospital is not the wisest place for medicene to be practiced, mechanics should only trouble themselves with cars that don't need fixed, and AT&T should do all it can to avoid fixing the issues.

It is interesting, to me, at least, how at each post not only can no one deny the words that I'm only repeating (sorry, I didn't make it up), some are compelled to post only to target a weak insult, revealing just how deep the ignorance runs: "Agree with me, or you are stupid." Quite astounding, even for the internet.

Lol - that's called 'tranference'. You just described what typifies virtually every post you've made, which can all be summed up, really, in one simple statement: "me so smart, you so stupid". You're boorish, friend - a person who obviously keenly feels the prowess of his own intellect, and who clearly esteems it higher than everyone else... So much so that you have to waste all of our time invading a discussion about networking issues with a lecture on the merits of a taoist interpretation of contractual obligations. And against that, you manage an aspergian inability to tell how unbelievably daft you appear to everyone but yourself.

At this point I'm ashamed of myself for having engaged you, so let's agree that this is a fruitless exchange and move on.

Phoenix, AZ west side of town. No matter how many times i run the test this is the upload result. Latency is also constantly ridiculous.

OK, now you have revealed yourself. Everything you have just stated is false. Anyone can look at my previous posts and confirm this; I insulted no one.

What this post is that I am replying to— please, all pay attention— is a troll. It is a perfect example of a troll following one of the common forms of false accusation. Obviously, I have grabbed your interest. Troll away, troll. I'm going to bed.

The Macrumors headline is Misleading...it makes it sound like the iP4 is the problem.

Again, Headlines sell...whether they are misleading or not.

The iPhone for might not be causing the issue but it's Apples tactics in choosing a carrier that has landed us all with AT&T. You guys don't think Apple could have predicted this subpar performance?

Ironic

I find it ironic slash terrible, that Steve Jobs was bragging about how Apple went through the trouble of adding HSUPA support to the new iphone4 so it would have full 7.2Mbps HSUPA support to match the 7.2Mbps HSDPA support that the previous generations had. Then a week later AT&T starts capping everybody at 100kbps in their congested areas. This has to be making Apple mad.

Hopefully AT&T gets enough bad press about this that they stop this new policy. But you know they will spin it as some kind of great new policy how they're protecting every user by punishing the "bandwidth hogs".

Here's what I'm getting in Chicago suburbs. Crossing my fingers that ATT doesn't touch our upload speeds around here.

In San Diego this morning, on an iPhone 3G. Download 1550, upload 208. Crappy ping too - 1500. Will be in Las Vegas later today and will check there, as well as Houston in a few days.

Cheers

This sucks. I love the phone but I have been getting these results for a while now. This is unacceptable.

Not just iPhone

These network issues are afflicting people who don't even own Apple hardware - this is an ATT issue.

Now I know why my AT & T AirCard gave me such poor service late last week in NYC. Ordinarily can web browse easily. Was so pitifully slow my web aps timed out.
I have a high end AT&T 3Gs AirCard,,, so same issues as iPhone.
