My Verizon account shows I qualify for upgrade pricing with an additional $30 loyalty discount. Will I have to preorder through Verizon to get this or can I also get it by preordering at the Apple Store online?
Depends on the film. Silver halides are really only used in B&W film (and the now-discontinued Kodachrome). Today's color films (C-41 and E-6 processes) are really dye clouds.
In any case, you have devolved this into a semantic discussion. Digital photography refers to the use of silicon circuitry for recording the image, at least in layman's terms.
If you want analog imagery, what are you going to do? Paint a picture with oil paints? Those are pigments suspended in an oil medium, reflecting certain wavelengths. And what is color, after all? It's certain wavelengths of light reflecting off of molecules. In a way, there's no digital imagery.
Hint: maybe you should learn something about photography and optics before you snark off. You aren't that clever, especially when you devolve the conversation into semantics.
For further study, I suggest you read Leslie Stroebel's Photographic Materials and Processes (the out-of-print hardcover version of the classic photography textbook used at Rochester Institute of Technology).
I think it is amusing that so many people don't think the 4s is a major upgrade solely because it is not in a new case. Exactly what features are they missing? 4G? Well, if you are on AT&T, the 4s should be at least as fast as Wimax and LTE as they are currently implemented. If you are on Verizon and Sprint, well, I'm sorry for you as you are apparently stuck with 3g. A bigger screen? I guess it would be nice, but not if it makes the device too big to fit comfortably in my pocket. If wonder, do you think if they had put the same hardware in a new case and called it the 5, that all of the same morons be happy? I bet a bunch of them would. I bet the rest of them would never be happy - or admit it anyway. I also bet these are the same people who were whining that the 3Gs wasn't a real upgrade over the 3G. I had both devices and the 3GS was a successful and satisfying upgrade. I have the 4 now and I very much like this form factor. Apparently somebody agrees with me as they have sold a bunch of them and I bet they will sell a bunch more. I also like the touch iPod, but I suspect they can't fit enough battery into the case to make it a viable phone - yet. Maybe next year. I thought it was pretty comical how the rumor mill thought every new iPod Touch case they saw was clear evidence of the iPhone 5. And everyone blames Apple for not building it - instead of admitting they were pretty stupid for swallowing the rumors.
As far as the timing, I also find it pretty amusing that so many of those same people think they so clearly understand how to run a business as complex as Apple. Somebody may have pointed this out and I haven't seen it, but I suspect it may be possible that Apple was concerned that if they had pushed out the 4s so soon after the iPad2, they would not have had enough A5 chips (or some other parts) to satisfy the market for both devices. I don't remember how far out they still were in June, but I know they weren't yet current on stock as I ordered one as a birthday present in mid- June and was not sure it would arrive in three weeks (it did). I don' think they got current until later in the summer and they probably would have allowed for some safety factor if that was indeed a concern. There were also a number of rumors in the market about various shortages resulting from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which could have affected the release date. They may also have been waiting to perfect the software as they clearly needed iOS5 and Siri to finish off the product. It is astounding to me how many people hammer the release of software with even the slightest bugs and also turn around and wonder why it wasn't released years earlier. For half the price. Go figure.
Fly to Aussie and get it.
Apple's stock went down 5% after the announcement.
No they are NOT. When each person bought the I4, they went with a 2 year contract to get the lower price. A price that ATT had to pay for the phone.
Why does everyone think that people with a year or even a year and half ito a 2 year contract should get ATT to help pay for the phone?
To use a certain phrase....THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING....A lot of people are walking away from Apple this time, the view of many not just me. I'm not a Fanboy or a Fandroid, just a tech-head and this is a gigantic fail...Apple needed to serious up their game because the competition is surpassing them & this is an insult to anyone with an open mind after 16months...Apple's cutting-edge innovation looks like it's dying along with Steve Jobs...Goodbye Apple & Mac Rumours....
Not going to be difficult to get. Most people who got iPhone 4 on or after launch aren't going to be eligible for an upgrade. I see a few 3G/S but not many.
I'm eligible Feb 25 2012. I have a few months to decide still.
Ok...this may sound sad but both my wife and I each have the iPhone 2G and 3G respectively. Both phones batteries are beginning to die. We are on ATT family plan with original unlimited data plan. My wife would like to upgrade to the 4 and me the 4S. I wonder if ATT will let us keep the unlimited data plan and allow us to upgrade both phones. Thoughts? Needless to say, this upgrade will be huge for both of us.
There is no silver in the fixed image. It's just a dye cloud.
Go to a museum and look at photographic images. If it says "silver halide print" it is because there is silver halide in the medium.
The dye cloud density determines the color/saturation/etc. in C-41 and E-6 images, not the binary presence of silver halide crystals.
You lose, again.
Glad I waited. My 2 year contract is up with Verizon so i'm able to upgrade without paying an arm and a leg. Perfect timing.![]()
Well, actually......
The first Developer in E-6 IS a Black a White Developer that forms a negative silver image in each layer of the film. The first developer is time and temperature sensitive because it controls contrast, just like B&W Film!!
Yes, one of my degrees at Brooks was... You guess it, Color Technology, which was in those days Color Lab Management!! I ran a E-6 and C-41 line in my Studio back in the late 80's
BTW, until last year, i had all my Kodak Z Manuals for all Processes!!
So stoked about the new form factor and OLED displays. Honestly I always thought backlit displays were just a bit inefficient. And the fact that the screen itself is bigger, just what I was waiting for. I can't wait to start using my iPhone for those NFC purchases either.
It's missing ..
A bigger screen
NFC
Navigation
a dedicated button for SIRI - (That home button is irritating with too many functions 1 click,2click,3click hold down for a long time click)
a notification light (Like Blackberry)
A WOW factor , People want a new design simply because they want a new toy. If I tried to sell you a NERF Football that looks exactly the same as the one you already have and said "But this one has a newer foam formula inside"....you might be a little hesitant to buy it
Anyway, there is a lot more they could have done

I'm no longer expecting anything exciting from Apple in this market. This iPhone 4S and its iOS 5 operating system are not even really catching up with the Galaxy S2 or other leading Android phones. They're at least a step behind and all the lawsuits didn't help them stay ahead of the pack.
Siri seems to be the only feature that appears to be worth talking about... But how stupid will you look if you stand somewhere in a city talking to your phone instead of talking to a real person? I cannot imagine any real life uses for such a feature. I have not even played with the similar stuff that Samsung built into their Galaxy phones because I honestly don't care.
The only place where something like Siri would make sense is when you could call your computer at home and tell it over the phone to do something for you. Now -that- could be useful. But why the heck would I want to talk to the phone that I am already holding in my hands?
