iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Start at 12:01 AM Pacific on Friday

conflicting report: 12:01AM not official?

FWIW: I just chatted with an Apple rep who stated the 12:01AM time is not official, and that they [Apple reps] haven't been told what time ordering will start.

He just suggested checking back with them… :rolleyes:

I don't doubt the OP's reporting - this is the typical confusion we've seen before among their reps. It'd be really nice to see something in print soon. I'm a late-nighter, but don't really want to sit in front of their web site waiting all night for it to accept orders.
 
After weeding through 24 pages of griping and arguing about the naming convention, I haven't found an answer to my question, so here I post.

Does anyone on the inside (Apple/AT&T) have any information regarding text plans and whether one can keep a grandfathered (200 msg, 1000 msg, 1500 msg) plan or will AT&T force the choice of $20 unl or nothing upon purchase?

I called AT&T enterprise and they had no information and said to 'see what the website says when you order'. Helpful.

When I ordered my 4, I had one of the TMS4 plans for 1500 SMS (No MMS) for $8.99. During the order process, I was forced to choose a new plan. I'm hoping to gain information early since I will be using the gf's line to order the 4S and she's happy with her 200 SMS plan.

how about the ebay iPhone 4s that tell people to buy at least 2?
are those legitimate?
 
If I could get either of our lines bumped back 3 or 6 months on the full subsidized price, I'd be ordering on Friday too.

Maybe now with Sprint and Verizon there's a little more leverage :D

Yes. You pay the $18 upgrade fee & the cost of the phone as well (ie: $199, $299 or $399).
 
I was just driving home from an Apple store and found out about Steve, feels a bit weird writing this. :( Alas, it is 4S related..

My poor old 3GS lost its volume rocker. I've long been eligible for an upgrade on AT&T. After not (yet) being completely sold on the 4S, I went to the Genius Bar in hopes of finding out about repairing the switch. He said there wasn't much to be done. I did glance at the iFixit instructions, looks a bit tricky even for a tinkerer like me.

My girlfriend is on Verizon with a Droid, and looking to move to an iPhone - but remain on Verizon. My immediate thought was for me to get a 4S, and then transfer it to her if/when a redesign comes next year - and get myself the next iPhone.

However - since she wants to stay on Verizon, I can't "transfer" any contract to her. I'm guessing the only thing I could do (aside from buying an unsubsidized phone) would be to wait until AT&T makes me eligible, potentially not until 2013?

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never pre-ordered myself. In the past, I've been on corporate account and out ATT Rep took care of it.

My wife has 3GS and I have 4. We are both upgrading to the 4S as we are both eligible for upgrade. We are on family plan with ATT.

I'd like to pre-order from Apple.com and just activate devices when they arrive and keep our plans unchanged. Is this easily done through the Apple site? Will Apple recognize my eligibility?

It was last year and yes. Use the eligibility checker to verify.

Not even in the"shop" area.

I was only checking for my personal line. My company considers my iPhone as my business phone, so they foot the bill for me! :-D

iOS 4 already has a rotation lock...unless I don't understand what you're looking for.
 
Pre-Order

Is it really a big deal to pre-order the iPhone 4S right as they enable pre-ordering? Like right at 12:01? Is there an advantage to that as opposed to me just waking up Friday and doing it when I wake up?

I haven't pre-ordered an iPhone, or any phone for that matter, before so I'm just wondering..

I've been using an EnV 2 while I waited for the new iPhone ever since I switched from AT&T to Verizon. Had an iPhone 3GS, kinda broken, when I was with AT&T.

Has to be delivered to the country of the apple website. ie, apple.com/au only deliveres to Australia.

Quoting myself to clarify something. When I go through the upgrade checker, and get the above prices, there's also language that says:

You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing. This line may qualify for an equipment discount on 12/17/2011

So is that suggesting that the "before" pricing above is a no contract extension price? Or is that still a 2-year extension price, but just with less discount vs. the later date?
 
ANNOYED!!! I have waited up till midnight and been clicking refresh since!

Its now 12:49am iOct 7th in Australia and still no option to pre order my dam iPhone 4s... whats going on???? :mad:

You would have to wait until our (PST) equivalent of Oct 7th. Which means your Saturday.

You will be grandfathered into the plans you currently have
 
I kinda had in mind getting my gear ready for camping on the 12th, but the latest news have kind of put me in a state of shock. Nonetheless, it is time to replace my good, ol' 3G with the new gem. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

I am surprised with this however as everyone I speak to lately seems to be getting the Samsung Galaxy..as as good as the 4s IOS 5 & Siri looks I don't think it's going to stop that trend. A lot of Sim free deals here in the UK means the iPhone 4s is really expensive still and I don't see the point in buying an iPhone 4 thats just £70 cheaper!

I dont understand what you guys/ladies are talking about. The iphone 4 design is great. I've dropped my iphone with a otter defender series many times and never had glass crack on my iphone. Those of you who are going without a case and are complaining about the glass suck it up and quit b*tchin.look at it like this, even if it was aluminum back it will still be damaged."Catch-22" So my suggestion stop trying to be cute and get a freakin otter case and shut up!!

I couldnt believe I cant get a direct answer to this.

Tomorrow is the day of pre-order....yet AT&T isnt bright enough to come up with some sort of straight-forward answer?
 
last year, how long did it take for AT&T stores to get the 4 in? i have a HTC Inspire I need to get rid of and thinking of trading it in via the AT&T store for an iphone 4 and exchange it for a 4S within the month.

It has been that way for the previous 4 iPhone's. Don't see a huge reason for change with the 4S.

Well if you want to guarantee getting one this is your best shot, other than waiting in line the day of release the 14th. Last year for the iPhone 4 I believe they sold out of online orders after a few hours. It was also next to impossible to get in and get an order placed. They seem to ship out in order the orders were placed so the later in queue the later your order might ship.

Again this is just from my experience of doing online pre-orders the last few times. Given they are doing so many more countries this time, and in the same design, one would assume they have built up millions of these to handle the demand. But who knows, there are a lot of different configs so maybe they have done more 32 GB devices than 64 GB assuming people will buy more of those. Then you have the white version vs black. Best advice, order early and don't wait if you want one now.
