Siri is ridiculous. There's nothing I can't do without it about twice as fast. There's too much back and forth, too much verification, error prone and too much confusion. Just too too slow. It's just a toy whose appeal will wear down after exhausting all your stupid sex comments to it. :)

Seriously though, unless driving a car, I can't see ever using this for real productivity.

This until it expands and goes into apps.

It's not Siri, it's the Notes App

In the macworld video when he does dictation in the notepad, it calls the iPhone 4s the "iPhone 4 ass". Really! You can see him smile and get a bit distracted, but go on as if it's perfect.

I'd think that's one thing Siri would know... :)

So he's just doing dictation.

;)

The reviews seemed a little weak for the most part. But I think that's because Apple has more competition now, so the iPhone isn't the best at everything anymore. Other platforms definitely implement certain features better IMO. Of course I still think it's the best platform out there, so I'm still anxiously awaiting my 4S, after using the 3GS for the last 2 and a half years. But I definitely think Apple will have a lot of catching up to do by the time next October rolls around, assuming that is when the "iPhone 5" comes out, because the other platforms are moving fast. Based on the reviews, it seemed like the iPhone 4S was "catching up" to the other devices in some facets, and surpassing them in other facets.

Does anyone know if the Verizon and Sprint version of the phone support Simultaneous Voice and 3G CDMA data network access? Like the HTC Thunderbolt?

Did anyone else notice that when he did the dictation bit in Notepad, on the screen it said 'Iphone Ass" and he didn't mentioned it, but after the camera cuts back to him, he kind of laughs for a second. around 4:16.

dude..ever read the thread before you post? your the 20th to post this...sooo cool OMG

So you need to be connected to the internet for ALL of Siri's commands? Thats lame, I thought you would at least be able to create events, set alarms etc without a connection.

Did anyone else read the part that says "Apple won't admit this, but they are using some of Dragon Dictation for Siri"

What the ****?

Not only that but:

There’s still no zoom and only a tiny LED flash — but otherwise, this phone comes dangerously close to displacing a $200 point-and-shoot digital camera.

No zoom? Incompetent reviewer.

The early iPhone 4S reviews are in. Apple has provided some publications with an early review unit of the iPhone 4S and here are the reviews. We've extracted some of the more interesting points from each review, but you can click each title to read the full writeup.

TechCrunch

- "The iPhone 4S blows away the iPhone 4 when it comes to speed."
- "The true killer feature of the device is Siri."
- "The amount of times Siri hasn't been able to understand and execute my request is astonishingly low. I'll say something that I'm sure Siri won't be able to understand, and it gets it."
- "Because it uses server-side software to decipher what you're saying (likely using Nuance-licensed technology), you have to be connected to the Internet in order for Siri to work."

ThisIsMyNext

- "On paper, [the iPhone 4S] may not stand up to the latest and greatest Android phone with 4G radios, a massive screen, and a screaming 1.5GHz dual-core CPU -- but in use, it's easily one of the most capable handsets on the market."
- "Apple made a pretty big deal out of the new camera on the rear of the iPhone 4S, and after testing it for a few days, I understand why... Apple has improved on what was already a capable video solution, making it a full-fledged competitor for bulkier point-and-shoots or dedicated camcorders."
- "The 4S is more than capable of going through a full business day without needing a charge, and if you're a lighter user, you'll rarely have to worry about it."
- On Siri, "The software even has a good sense of humor. Asking it "what is the meaning of life?" will bring up a number of responses, both serious and not so serious. The first time I asked, Siri simply said "42."

Other reviews: NYTimes, Wired

Macworld

They've included a video:

Article Link: iPhone 4S Reviews: "Best iPhone Yet", Great Camera, Siri is "Straight Out of Science Fiction",

These are all obviously Apple fanboy sites that suck up to them every time crapple releases a new device, silly haters.:apple:

Honest to God the more I read the more I can't wait to get my iPhone. Just got my tracking number a few minutes ago. Can you say psyched?? :D

I really hope that all the Android doubters and spec fanatics learn something from this release of this really incredible phone. I'll be completely honest here too. I was a bit concerned and even a bit skeptical because there was no larger screen but I admit I was completely wrong. Maybe 3.5" is the sweetspot. Maybe we will never see anything bigger because it's "just right". I wouldn't mind a slight bigger screen but I won't be clamoring for it any longer. If it comes it comes. If not then not. There are however many other features of this phone that are amazing. Can't wait to try Siri. This is my very first iPhone and I think I'm getting in just at the right time ;)

Isn't that typical for Apple products? They may not have the best specs, but as a package work better than anything else? The total is greater than the sum of the parts kind of thing?

One week everyone complains about the 4S being junk, next week people will call it the best phone ever.

There's not much else the media can be pro for.

Let's be a little more rational. Until we find contrary criticism we should be very skeptical of these positive reviews. Personally I am waiting for Fox News to deliver an unbiased take.

Read that and see if you still fee the same

If this is SIRI now I can't even imagine what 6 months will bring as they tune it even more. :)

Eat that doom sayers, we miss you Steve but thanks for a great company that Apple will be for a long time. :D

Regarding the CDMA iPhone 4s being GSM unlocked. It is looking like it will not be. If I understand it correctly, if you roam into GSM territory, the phone can speak to that GSM network, but will be charged through your CDMA carrier. I.e. Sprint in my case. This means if I go to Rocky Point MX, I can use my phone, but Sprint will probably charge up the you know what for international calling. Same as AT&T I guess since I just got back from there and the international plans were crazy expensive.

I think everyone needs to stop looking at the CDMA phone as something special. It is just a phone that can talk to any GSM network, no different the current AT&T iPhone. The only difference is it's home network is CDMA vs. GSM, otherwise it is no different then an AT&T locked iPhone.

Also to note, Apple will not offer an unlocked CDMA iPhone, only the full GSM model will be offered unlocked. So basically in order to use Verizon or Sprint you have to buy a locked down phone. No biggie for me, but will be for several others.

On what do you base this statement?

In these forums I have read people speaking to Sprint high level reps saying it's GSM/SIM will be unlocked. In two of the reviews they say the CDMA based iphones will be GSM unlocked. Sprint has a policy of unlocking their world phones, Verizon will unlocked after 60 days. etc

Not to say you're wrong, I just don't see how anyone knows until someone plops in a SIM card in a verizon/sprint phone and tests it.
