Siri needs Internet?

The way the 4S Siri preview commercial type thing made it seem that Siri could be used anywhere, any time. Hence why they showed a guy jogging using Siri, driving, in the kitchen etc. I'm a huge Apple fan but this sort of seems like false advertisement. Now if it can use 3G and work then thats another story but solely Wifi is kind of crazy especially when you advertise it a different way.

So at the end of the movie where the timer goes off, the notification pops up right in the middle of the screen while he's running an app. I thought notification centre was supposed to not do that...

Hmmm..

On what do you base this statement?

In these forums I have read people speaking to Sprint high level reps saying it's GSM/SIM will be unlocked. In two of the reviews they say the CDMA based iphones will be GSM unlocked. Sprint has a policy of unlocking their world phones, Verizon will unlocked after 60 days. etc

Not to say you're wrong, I just don't see how anyone knows until someone plops in a SIM card in a verizon/sprint phone and tests it.

I really hope I am wrong, but I think my info is also second hand. Guess I will find out on Friday. I'll pop in my AT&T SIM card and head out to where I know they don't offer Sprint service, but AT&T works.

You can switch between alerts or banner in Settings.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

This until it expands and goes into apps.

If there's enough RAM to do that.

If Siri is wifi only, this 2 year "evolution" is a joke.

It can run off 3G...

YOu might need to request the unlock from Sprint.

Could you PM me and let me know :) ?

Siri and Cloud

1) Cloud computing. No longer will we be restricted to one laptop or desktop for our documents, pictures, video, email, software, songs, art or anything else. Where we go, our stuff goes. On any device. iPhone, MacBook, iMac, iPad. Yes this technology existed in other devices, but as it was, it lacked functionality. The iOS 5 release changes that.

2) Artificial Intelligence. Siri on iPhone 4S lets us use our voices to “send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls” all “by talking the way we talk.” Apple states that we are “actually having a conversation” with our iPhone. In reality, this is the first device that has a UI (user interface) that is verbal and functional throughout the core system. This technology has been around for a while, but it has never been applied properly and it was never very accurate. We have seen it is movies and our dreams, but that is where it stayed.
:D

When you say, "Send a text message to my brother Evan," will it default to the new imessage service or will it send him a text to his phone number?
Or will it automatically detect that he is on iOS5?

I will expect it to behave as if you sent the message using the Messaging App, which is if the other person is online, send it through iMessage otherwise send it by SMS.

What does it cost iphone 4 users in contract to upgrade taking sale of old phone into consideration? It looks like att wants 450 for a 16 4s, so how much can I get for a iphone 4 in great shape and where's the best place to sell it? I'm sure some people will sell their iphone4 somewhere for more than 250 and end up with the 4s for cheaper than those not in a contract with a 4.

I think your best bet would be trying on Craigslist. I have seen them sell for $300-$400 in my area.

You do connect to the internet with 3G, right?

;)

These reviews are making it extremely hard for a current iPhone 4 owner with an upgrade not buy the 4S.
That's the point. It's very fashionable to fawn over the latest Apple products. Gushing reviews drive page views and increase the stock price of investors like myself. It's good to be on top. Those who complained about no iPhone 5 weren't wrong to want it. That's what Apple does, drive expectations over the moon. Better that than the opposite. It's all good. Be happy.

anyone else notice in the note taking section of the video it translated 4S into 4 ass

Siri seems even more interesting to me now that I know she has a sense of humor. Also, as these demos start appearing, it seems she's a lot more capable than I thought. Clearly syntax and even terminology doesn't matter that much at all to her, she'll figure out what you're trying to say regardless.

And, one benefit of it going back to a server somewhere (I know, I know, it would be really cool if it worked offline too, but the internet is everywhere now anyway, that's sort of the point of 3G, HSDPA), is that Apple can "upgrade her brain" any time they want, so she'll just get smarter and smarter over time without needing software updates. Think about it, if a bunch of people try to ask her to do something that she can't do, Apple will see that pretty quickly on their servers, and then go ahead and implement that feature or provide another witty response.

Remember, this is beta, too. Even if she's not as capable as we'd like right now, just by using her a lot and seeing what she is capable of, she'll improve.

Thank you, I did not know that. I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow... :)

I believe you can also switch between alerts and banners for specific apps. So you might decide it would better if a particular app notified you as an alert rather than a banner.

I will be upgrading my ATT 3gs to an ATT 4s. If I wasn't on ATT I prob would just keep my 3gs, and enjoy the software update, but since I'm on ATT and will also be getting 4g speeds, I'll be upgrading. The Siri software, and new camera wasn't too shabby either, oh and retina display :)

I'm just curious, but if the Verizon/Sprint CDMA iPhone SIM is unlocked, could you theoretically use a prepaid AT&T SIM on your Verizon phone? (Not that I'll be doing this, but was just wondering)

"AT&T model still dropped calls"

I guess Apple will need to re-instate the free case program again..
