the fact that every single Apple store in Canada shows stock as unavailable gives me slight hope. Unless Canadians stores get no stock

I was able to reserve a black 32GB at Sherway Gardens.

Strangely, the confirmation page told me to bring ID/credit card/proof of address. Can't we reserve an off-contract unlocked phone? Guess I'll find out tomorrow morning when I venture out there to pick it up

Well I'm sure the system is the same but there's no way they're out of stock on EVERY single product (not just iPhones) in Canada.

I only found out about the reservation system earlier this afternoon when an Apple guy from the Eaton Centre store told me to use it.

If Apple really want to discourage reselling in grey markets, they could simply start selling in more countries!

I guess they don't care.

Huh, nice catch, polluted...I've been refreshing/checking other store reservation pages since 9 sharp and all I've seen is "Unavailable" everywhere. :(

can someone else pick up my registration?

navigating site around 8:55 and got lots of errors, though somehow got to reserve one 32 gb black for Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket for tml 11 am to noon.

Question is as I was logged into my apple ID, i wasn't able to change the pickup person details and as I can't go in person tomorrow and wanted dad to pick up for me. Is this possible?

Going back to reserve sites now show unavailable for all stores and no way to edit the reservation.

I actually tried to reserve another for a co-worker, just after I got mine, and it then showed as unavailable.

When I reserved mine, the 32GB black was the only one available ... all other sizes and colours were unavailable.

this is the most useless thing for canadian customers, i was on the site at 8:55 tonight and not matter what I do the phones still say unavailable, they have been saying that since this so called reserved system opened

You and me both...here's to the unlucky ones? :D

That sucked. There was some scattered stock across the board, but nothing at the major stores. It seemed like stores pretty much dumped the leftover stock of what they had left from Friday/Today.

It makes sense though to now switch to this online reservation system. Conspiracy theory warning: why would they have people line up on opening day and not the following days? Chronically low stock. To avoid upsetting people that line up everyday when they know that they won't have any stock they tell people not to line up and that there's this fancy new online reservation system. That doesn't mean that there's any more stock, but to avoid people being disgruntled in lines because there's no more iPhones or extremely limited stock. That's my $0.02. This all assumes the simple fact that no company would ever avoid sales. If they had product they would sell it, regardless of whether it's a re-seller or end-user. Apple would never support any program that would restrict their ability to sell phones.

Best of luck everyone; we're likely going to be waiting a while before stock becomes reasonable enough.

Just reserved a white 64 GB AT&T model from my local Apple Store in South Carolina. Nice and easy.

Central time zone stores just went live 5 minutes early. Reserved mine for tomorrow

Reservation? I hope they do this for the iPad 3 when it comes out. I had a hard time finding an iPad 2 when it came out.

With the US reservation, you have to pick one of the 3 phone companies. Does that mean, you can still show up and then ask for an out of contract phone? If thats the case, then why won't Apple just start selling the unlocked phones officially since out of contract phones all appear to be unlocked...What am I missing?

Fry's have a lot iPhone 4s in stock, no line

Here's my take.

If I'm managing supply chain to my retail stores, trying to estimate necessary supply to each store by previous day sales is a very imprecise method. Especially based on launch numbers (which will be much higher than average). However, by having people reserve online, it allows Apple to optimize their supply chain and shift that supply to accommodate demand appropriately and efficiently.

I completely agree. This would be a great system if we're talking about stable demand a month from now. If I'm a supply chain analyst and I don't already have the logistics in place to get millions of iPhones out of production within the first few weeks it'd be better to work for RIM as their sales would never be hindered by a lack of devices.

thanks KPom

I'm guessing it's at 9:00pm at the store where you want to pick it up. At the UWS location, the rep said that if you are successful in reserving one, you have until 6:00pm the next day to pick it up.

I'm guessing Apple's site will be overloaded right around 8:59:59 tonight, but I'll give it a shot. I would prefer a 32GB version. $849 is a bit much for a phone I'll likely replace when the redesigned model comes out.

Thanks for the info. I hope this is successful and you and everyone else get the new phone if you want it. I like this idea of reserving. Seems much more sane.

Although it would be nice if the products launched in as many countries as possible from the get-go. I know that's asking a lot.

I've decided to milk every last bit of love out of my 3GS, returned the Sprint 32GB 4s today. I would like to use my Apple products until they go kaput from here on in. So here's to at least 3 years of good service from my trusty 3Gs.

Have fun with Siri. I'll stick to one sided conversations with my iPhone ;)
