What's important to remember is this.

Apple does what Apple wants

When they want

How they want

And if you spend the time to really read the posts on this and other Apple forums, you'll see that the fans worship every little thing Apple does.

They've surrendered their ability to think for themselves.

They've stopped using common sense and reasoning.

They've bought into the programming that Apple has put forth.

And they are going to buy Apple iPhones no matter what.

Apple knows it and will manipulate the customers and press accordingly to get the revenue they are so dearly addicted to.

It's just the way it is. Apple in this market, can do no wrong.

rumors...

Oh yeah, I heard that they are going to split the iphone into two different devices, one for the internet and apps, and one for making calls/texts. I think they are even changing the name of the phone call making service to cr-apple.

oh, wait, was that netflix?

At this point these reports have become so pointless and dumbfounded I have started reading the zunerumors blog. ha.

They said the same about the iPad 2 just before it came out too.

It subsequently had/was a bigger update than anyone expected.

I imagine the same for the iPhone 5.

And people still whined on the forum about the iPad 2 because it didn't have a retina screen. Why? Because the rumors sites were pumping up the fact that it might have one! It probably never even existed.

Same thing is happening now with the iPhone. People will be disappointed because it doesn't have X rumored feature that they wanted.

I'm not sure it needs a visual redesign to be called the iPhone 5 - significant new features would be enough, even if it looks the same (and the iPhone 4 is VERY pretty).

I decided to skip the 3GS (was still under 3G contract) and 4 (because of the antenna bug). Now I'm desperate for a new iPhone. If Apple doesn't come out with a complete redesign I'm going to be pissed. The 4 has been out long enough that a new design is technologically required in this day and age. Maybe Steve Jobs resigned because Apple can no longer keep their act together, and I suspect that this won't do well for Tim Cook to release a "slightly better" 4 saying that he can't get a new, customer expected, iPhone, but only modify what Jobs has already done in the past. So what does that say about the iPhone's future, having nearly two years between models?

Droids have only gotten better over the past year, and Apple has done nothing but admit they made a flawed design requiring bumpers that are already wearing or have worn out because it's been almost a year and a half since their last new model was released.

Just releasing a slightly better iPhone to debut a new iOS is just a bad idea. I'm starting to feel that Apple has hit an iPhone plateau. :(

I think it's really cool that we're less than 2 weeks away from Apple spilling the beans on what's next and the rumors still don't know what it's going to be.

You think that we don't know because you hope that there will be a new phone. It's quite possible that we do know everything there is to know about iPhone 5: new camera sensor and new processor. Is that cool?

My guess is something really bad happened durring production that caused the redesign to be delayed.

Apple remembers what happened with the iPhone 4 leaks. No way they even give a hint of the iPhone 5.

And yes, there will be an iPhone 5 next month. There's no way they wait 16 months to release a refresh and upgrade. It may be the same design (which is fine, since the iPhone 4 design is pretty great), but it will be an iPhone 5.

A5 chip
iOS5
iPhone 5.

It will be the iPhone 5.

You make two mistakes.

1. The selling point of the '4S' is the price, simple as that. It's got everything that makes an iPhone an iPhone, but it's cheaper.

2. You're right, people don't care about what's inside the phone. But at first, they don't care about the software as well. They learn to appreciate it after they've used it. iOS 5 and iCloud are a huge step forward, but it's *not enough*. People don't really care, they like it, but they don't really care. Two different things. What people DO like are the looks. It has to look awesome, it has to have an impressive screen, the camera must be perfect, etc.

Point given, but I still don't get the big difference between the two models apart from a redesign, why would I buy the more expensive one? Only because of the new design? I think models would compete too much and target the same market ...

A 4s would be the first crack in Apple's golden armor.
Personally I agree.

However the fanboys all claim that the consumer doesn't care, and they don't know anything about phones anyway.

An Apple forum is the only place I've ever read the argument that "specs don't matter".

Comments range to the obscene here: people are called "Spec Whores".

True maturity....

Agreed. It seems unprecedented that there's not more info floating around in this day and age. I'm on here checking for "updates" multiple times a day. Well done, Apple. Note to self: go read a good book and forget about what happens a month from now.

Bigger screen, A5, and better cam is all I need. I could care less if it's a new body or not.

If Steve makes an appearance, it will only be to say "thanks for all the fish".

Steve will just be there to show everybody that he is alive and doing well.

If the pictures of Steve in a wheelchair are true, this isn't going to work. Didn't he have to grab onto a table to support himself the last time he did a keynote? Don't expect to see him "doing well" - if he were doing well he would not have resigned.

if Steve ain't fit then Phil Schiller will do the keynote, they won't dare put Cook up out there, the audience would fall asleep.

Cook despite his social awkwardness will be there but I just see him saying a few words pre keynote before handing over to a decent orator, whether that will be Steve or Phil only time will tell I guess, hopefully Steve

If you think about it, it would be a huge mistake to have The Steve do anything but say "farewell" if he is at the event.

If he is part of the product announcement, it sends a strong signal that he's not happy with his chosen successors. That would be a very bad thing.

But a short farewell speech would be nice, even if done via telepresence.

The Apple Fans will declare it the best, and lineup to buy it.

That's nothing but fact.

A sad fact, but a fact. Where are the links to all the Apple fans stating that the leaked Iphone 4 pics were "ugly" and "Apple would never do that"....

some folks think the delay was related to the verizon deal... i.e. they agreed to extend the period for them...

Personally, I think Scott Forstall would be the best to take over keynotes. He's had his hand in both the design of OS X and IOS, plus he portrays the youthful energy needed for the classic Apple keynote. The Forstall/Schiller combo has worked just fine recently. Have Cook come up and lay out the business numbers, maybe an outline of the topics for the session, then hand it over like Steve has done in the past 2 years.

I am probably going to end up with whatever phone is released on October 4. And I will probably be switching back to Verizon at the same time. But, as if Apple cares what I think, I may not be happy about it.

My first iPhone was the 3GS, and I was forced to switch from Verizon to AT&T to get it. After having an extremely reliable phone (you know, to make phone calls) with a really clunky interface (it was one of the Blackberry Pearls), to having an awesome pocket computer that could hardly make a phone call. I don't really care whether it was the phone design, AT&T's coverage area, or overloading of the network. I have just been severely frustrated for 2.5 years with a phone that routinely drops calls in my area (large suburban area...not out in the sticks).

Enter the iPhone 4. I like the design of it, but all signs point to it having an even worse reception than previous iterations of the iPhone. I passed.

Enter the Verizon iPhone 4. I was seriously stoked about Verizon getting the iPhone since I had Verizon service for almost a decade, and dropped no more than a handful of calls, all of which were WAY off the beaten path. Then, I find out it's the same exact guts as the first iPhone 4, and it also has reception problems. I pass because I don't want a flawed design, and I certainly don't want to pay an ETF to AT&T to get it.

Now, the "latest rumors" are pointing to more of the same. Why? I'm sure it was just a blip on the financial radar at Apple, but why would you stick with the same flawed design for over 2 years? A recent article on MacRumors quotes a younger Steve Jobs as saying that Apple stumbled after he left because they got cocky about past success and stopped innovating. An iPhone 4S is repeating history.

Delay Because Of iOS 5?

Maybe Apple took so long to release a new iPhone is because of iOS 5. There probably is just internal improvements and no design change like from 3G to 3GS. However, they didn't want to release a new iPhone on old software and wanted to release this updated iPhone along with iOS 5.

But I hope I'm wrong.
