If only the iPhone 4S will be introduced then that depends on how good it is internally. A faster processor and better camera is still a tough sell for current iPhone 4 owners. But, if the iPhone 4S does LTE then that's a different story . Then maybe they will have facetime over 4G or something, then I'd buy that right away because facetime already saved me a lot on international callings.

If they delay releasing it much longer, there will be rumours about a downgraded iPhone ... lower resolution, less memory, a 1mp camera, even worse reception...:D

You forgot to mention that it will be a flip phone... the iPhone Flip. lol

As an iPhone 4 owner, I refuse to buy a 4S for an A5 chip. That's what my iPad 2 is for. I'll settle for iOS 5 if that's the case, and wait for the iPhone 6.

fudgecakes and potato pies. i'm pretty sure apple assigned more than just a junior probationary staff and cleaner on working on their hallmark device. 16 months.

I don't trust that many iPhone related sources, but if its coming from the WSJ, my ears perk up a little. I know this article is nearly 8 months old, but could this still be the case. Here's what the article states:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704657104576142262842435544.html

One of the people, who saw a prototype of the phone late last year, said it is intended for sale alongside Apple's existing line. The new device would be about half the size of the iPhone 4, which is the current model.

The new phone—one of its code names is N97—would be available to carriers at about half the price of the main iPhones.

The person who saw the prototype of the new iPhone said the device was significantly lighter than the iPhone 4 and had an edge-to-edge screen that could be manipulated by touch, as well as a virtual keyboard and voice-based navigation. The person said Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., also plans to upgrade the iPhone 4.

I dont know which one will come true, will the new iPhone branded as iPhone 5 or 4s, but I just hope they don't release both.

That will break Apple's tradition for "One phone to rule them all" .. I dont want Apple end up like any other smartphone company that release a giant collection with a cryptic name or nickname to start with.

There is Galaxy this, and Galaxy that released at almost the same time, and some of them just survive several for months before Samsung release the newer Galaxy with another cryptic name ... such a waste.

Sure iPhone 3GS still laying around beside iPhone 4 now, but then 3GS still considered older and released earlier, not a variant of iPhone from the same generation. Think just like PlayStation 2 still for sell even after PlayStation 3 released

I heard Chuck Norris will be unveiling the new iPhone next month.

That just might stop me me from buying one.

There's seriously no need for anymore articles about articles about wether or not were seeing one or two phones, redesign or no redesign.

For a rumor site, I've had enough reading about the same two rumors a hundred times.

ffs. This is just garbage, I hope more than anything, that this is wrong. Because too many sources are saying that there will be a 5.

Interesting that codename, because some people were referring to N97 as the codename for the iPhone 5. I do remember that rumor. Just unsure how something much smaller than the iPhone would really be. OTOH, Apple has been stressing harmony between form and function, so I'm sure a lot of thought has gone into this.

Still keeping my expectations low, as I have been disappointed before...

i don't get why people are dying for a new form factor. The current one is amazing. If the phone is faster, larger screen, better camera, then what does the form factor have to do with anything. If it has the above three then it is an iPhone 5.

Don't worry, a new revamped iphone 5 will be coming out next month no matter how many people think that it won't be because of some of the most rediculous explanations I have ever heard. Macrumors and 9 to 5 mac already explained in pretty good detail already why Apple would be substantially hurt if they did not release a phone that will be able to compete with Android. Apple is not stupid, they know what they're doing. Rumored employees from Apple and Al Gore, who is on the damn board of directors of Apple have already stated two phones will be coming in October. I don't what else it'll take to convince the naysayers.

The iPhone 5 sounds great and all ... but they're already working on the A6 chip. Ill get the iPhone 6 :D

This is what's going to happen

Apple will release the following.

iPhone 4S (8GB only, A5, camera bump, non-glass back, other cheaper materials): $99 on contract. Will be single design 3G+ multi-carrier handset using new CDMA/GSM Qualcomm chipset allowing single device for all carriers.

iPhone 5 (16, 32 and 64GB, A5, 8MP cam, larger screen, tapered design with similar shape back as has been reported, larger home button supporting gestures.) Battery life will be somewhat similar but possibly improved due to use of A5 processor. Will be single design 3G+ multi-carrier handset using new CDMA/GSM Qualcomm chipset allowing single device for all carriers.

If, and it's a big if; If Apple releases only 4S update, you can most likely then assume that the i5 design is not delayed but intended to house 4G/LTE technology they intend to announce 2nd Q-2012.

Apple is not going to fragment itself and confuse consumers with different models released at once (that's Android). They will just cut the current iPhone 4 price, and that will be their economy model. It is difficult enough for suppliers to keep up the demand for a single iPhone model.. making yet another model with a set of different parts would be even tougher.

Once again:
iPhone4 = insanely great.
iPhone4S will even better.

personally, and of course, this is just me, iPhone4 screen is still years ahead of any other phone. Sure, it's not 4.7" but where does it stop? I've held some of these phone pads and they're freaking huge! How big a screen do you need on a phone? Before it becomes a tablet? I can certainly see iPT morphing into something slightly larger, but iPhone's proportions are so nice I'd hate to see Apple screw with it too much.

Then again, I'm not one to upgrade my tech every year, or even every other year, so I likely won't be upgrading till iP7 or 8 and god knows what will be happening by then... So why am I posting on a rumor site...

yup folks odds are we will not see the sexy ip5

it will only be an ip4s

dissapointing - aint it spanky

There's more substantial evidence for the 4s than the 5. We've seen pretty credible looking photos of the 4s leaked from the supply chain, but the only thing we've seen regarding the iPhone 5 are mockups and possible cases.

I do think the iPhone 5 was planned, but the Qualcomm chipset necessary to support LTE with sustainable battery life won't be available for months, and the LTE rollout across carriers is too spotty. Apple is probably shelving its 4G phone for the next launch, along with a redesign.

Nah this is Tim Cook's first time as Key note speaker. It will not be a lackluster. I'm pretty sure Apple itself is spreading this rumor and when we all think that all hope is lost.... "One more thing..." :D:D:D:D:D:D

Apple can do whatever they want. MacRumor members don't represent a large portion of the market they are targeting. There is still millions of people who never owned an iPhone or coming from the 2G, 3G, 3GS, or from Android or BlackBerry and are unhappy with it or getting sick of it. People on Android base it alot on paper specs. Apple fans want the experience and ecosystem. The iPhone doesn't need to be the most advanced since Apple can only announce a new phone once a year and a faster Android comes out like every month. Apple doesn't need to make this into a pissing contest about specs with Android.

Apple can stamp their logo onto a turd and it will sell millions just by how they hype it. Apple doesn't need to target people who know about dual core, 1080p camera, or whatever. The masses aren't that smart. The real Apple fans will buy it anyway because they are part of that walled garden and buy it for the stability and EXPERIENCE. The experience of being out with other Apple/iPhone fans while camping out for it and having employees cheer you on. Alot of people don't go out much and love these type of "events." But Apple pleasing MR members isn't their #1 agenda. You can never please everybody on here who's sole purpose is to complain about something. Target Asia which is still untapped and they win in the longer run. Asia is still unsaturated.

It worked in 2009 when Jobs wasn't there. They boosted the processor by almost 200MHz plus added a video camera and compass and the 3GS which looked exactly like its predecessor still sold like crazy. The 4 had those Antennagate issues and it still sold like crazy.

If there is no new redesign, how is this any different than the one from 2009? And they can get away with it again. The best-selling smartphone of 2011 is a 16-month old phone. Apple got away with a 3.5 inch screen for four generations. The more you make them popular, the more they can do whatever they want and at their own pace. At the end of the day, what they care about most is their profits since this is all business. People can complain about the lack of changes and they will still go out and buy it just for the Apple ecosystem and the "experience." Apple will continue laughing all the way to bank whether some people want the next iPhone or not.

Forget it - Apple has to move beyond the superstar CEO keynotes. MBA Tim can't replace the turtlenecked showman, so Apple shouldn't even try (and fail).

We're in the post-Jobs era, Apple keynotes will be as exciting as Cisco and HP and Dell and Microsoft and Samsung keynotes.

It's the post-Jobs era - no more irrational worship of not-very-nice CEOs.
