If the pictures of Steve in a wheelchair are true, this isn't going to work. Didn't he have to grab onto a table to support himself the last time he did a keynote? Don't expect to see him "doing well" - if he were doing well he would not have resigned.

I really hope SJ is in not in that bad of shape and if it comes out he is Apple could be looking at getting investigated again by the SEC if there stock takes a noise dive.
I think they already got looked into once when Steve took his first medical leave about them hiding information to inflate/protect the stock price.
Way to much of Apple stock is tied up in the image of Steve Jobs. It is pretty clear looking back and now that Apple is trying to remove Jobs as the face of Apple and have Apple have its own image.

Personally, I think Scott Forstall would be the best to take over keynotes. He's had his hand in both the design of OS X and IOS, plus he portrays the youthful energy needed for the classic Apple keynote. The Forstall/Schiller combo has worked just fine recently. Have Cook come up and lay out the business numbers, maybe an outline of the topics for the session, then hand it over like Steve has done in the past 2 years.
I think Tim will do just fine, he's not Steve, but he will do fine. It's just a keynote, it's not like giving a concert for a 100k crowd. The CEO should do the keynote with help of his 'sidekicks' when needed, I guess maybe Tim will need it a little more than Steve. ;)

I currently have a HTC Thunderbolt 4G. It comes with unlimited 4G LTE Data plan and unlimited 4G LTE Tethering plan ($30 for each of course).

I can probably upgrade to iPhone and keep my unlimited data plan ($30), but my tethering plan will be limited to 2GB a month ($20) and I will have to downgrade to 3G.

I want the new iPhone for the new iOS 5 features, but I am not sure if I am willing to sacrifice the data speed.

Let just see what happens.

Only an iPhone 4S would be hysterical!! I can imagine the delusional fanboys in straight jackets. Lined up for a week outside of the Apple store to get one.

You people should stop likening the iPad2 release to the iPhone 5 release. The iPad 2 upgrade was a modest one simply because it hadn't been that long since the first iPad had been released (11 months).

The iPhone 5, if released in October as rumored, will come about 16 months after the release of the iPhone 4. It's perfectly reasonable to expect a substantial upgrade.

It certainly is. All these other rumors is typical Apple PR to keep everyone guessing and to help them to find where the leaks are coming from. All violaters will quietly disappear.

I hope that there will be a "revolutionary" iPhone5 or at least one that can compete with the android phones (in specs), but perhaps Apple calculates like that: All the "old" iPhone users bought so many Apps, so we got them locked in our eco-system! And for that reason they won't switch to Android...

That would be a reason for Apple to release "only" a speed bump without fear...

But my fear is that this will be the first step down the hill ;(

Hi!

I follow these discussions on MacRumors a long time now, especially the ones about the new iPhone(s), but this is one of my first posts here.

Until now we got some broken pieces of an iPhone4-like device with apparently an A5 inside, some infos about an 8M camera and a leaked design document for a teardrop-like iPhone, iPod touch, whatever ...

First of all I don't believe in those design documents at least not for an iPhone, but maybe for an iPod touch.

Then I don't get why Apple should release and upgraded iPhone4 with an A5 and an 8M camera AND a completely redesigned iPhone, what could be the selling point hardware-wise for the redesigned one? If they would release two, then they would target the same market and would make one of them obsolete, not a strategy Apple would follow.

So in my opinion there is just the minor hardware upgrade, same design, but the big selling point will be the iOS5, most of the people don't even care what's inside their phones ...

There is no huge selling point in hardware this year for an iPhone like a new screen, but a big step in software (iCloud). We have to think that not all people are as tech-savy as we are in this forum, they care about usability and the software, they never heard about dual core, 4g or nfc. An iPhone has to be designed for the masses!

Please excuse my not so fluent english and feel free to share your thoughts!

Greetings from Switzerland!

I hate to say it, but I agree with you. I too can see exactly why releasing an iPhone with a faster processor and upgraded camera will be what they do. Though I also think that they will improve the antenna, add 64GBs and make it a bit thinner too(if possible).

These things combined would make me a happy iPhone 4S/5 buyer. Though in a perfect world I'd get a slightly bigger screen too.

Anyone that believes Apple will not have a new phone is completely wrong. There is absolutely no way Apple will introduce just an update at this time in the mobile industry. Competition is hotter than ever, and RIM is a real time example of what happens when you sit on your laurels. A new fully redesigned iPhone will be introduced in a few weeks time.

I wouldn't call that a modest upgrade. The iPad 2 is significantly thinner than the first iPad.

In fact, only 11 months after the first iPad, they've created an "all-new design" (that's how Steve advertised it). That's why I don't understand why people keep saying "the current iPhone 4 design is only one year old, no way Apple would change it so soon". The iPad 2 showed the opposite.

I can say one thing. After 16 months if all they announce is an iPhone 4S then I hope there will be some heavy booing in the auditorium. Im confident Apple has been able to secure leaks better after the iPhone 4 and will indeed impress us as usual.

BIG mistake if Apple were to not continue to be innovators!!

Of course Apple will continue to innovate. It's not realistic to expect earth-shattering changes every time a product is updated.

There will be no booing. The media will go on and on about how great the iPhone is that it needs no improvements and the flock will camp out to buy the same model with a new name.

It'll be called iPhone 5. Can we stop with all this 4S crap!?

To be perfectly honest I wish they'd stop adding digits after stuff and just call it iPhone.

I agree. There is no 4s. It may look similar to the 4 is design, but it will have a different processor an A5!, run iOS5 with some other slight changes, but it will be a 5!

Bringing out a phone named the 4s will just p**s people off with shouts off "what have you been doing for 18 months!", etc, etc. You bring out the iphone 5 , abait with a design that isn't as groundbreaking as people would like, but its still a new phone that will keep up with the rest.

Why would Apple push back the release by 6 months and then only release a spec bump? Makes no sense...

Makes perfect sense if technology hasn't improved enough to make a significantly improved iPhone until now.
Also, there is this thing called making a profit. The longer Apple can keep the older (and cheaper) model selling, the more profit it makes. Delay in coming out with 4S is just indicative of how good 4 was.

Doesn't the current iphone 4 sell about as many units as all the android smart phones combined? I'm talking about sales to customers, not shipments to sit around at best buy. I'd say that is keeping up just fine.

My nightmare.

I end up getting the iPhone 4S because it has a much better camera, and they announce the iPhone 5 less than a year later and Im not eligible for the upgrade.

Jobs has avoided all consequences of the funny business he's engaged in, along with his nefarious dealings when it comes to Apple's stock for himself and cronies.

They had every reason to launch a full scale investigation on a couple of occasions but they conveniently looked the other way. It's no different than any other evasive maneuver accompanied by massive amounts of cash under the .... well you get the idea.

Jobs is like the teflon Don. Untouchable.

If they delay releasing it much longer, there will be rumours about a downgraded iPhone ... lower resolution, less memory, a 1mp camera, even worse reception...:D
