Contract due to expiry soon in two months, I’m starting to ‘look’ for my next phone and happen to come across this site. Being just two days new, I know I’m not qualified to say correct or wrong so I’ll just state my personal thoughts.
iPhone 4 release last year caught my attention, however being down in a contract, I have to endure. Nevertheless, I know from Wikipedia Apple in the past add or minus will release an iPhone every years. There’s what we already know:
• Apple start (or already on-going) next generation iphone design soon after each release
• White version of iPhone fails to release in time until April this year. (Its cause more resources and time from original esitmated )
There’s what I believed:
• The redesign tear shape iPhone and the case manufacturers is real and indeed means for Phone5
• Intermittent iPhone (same form design) never exist in the early planning stage.
Why? Very simple, manufacturers, especially in China can’t afford to produce a product which they have no confirmation. All, even the tiniest interest is on earning.
I’ve personal experience in China manufacturing sector. Corruption, I’m sorry to say are very common. They dun spends days reading rumors to make decision on their products; rather, they go directly to the person who have the knowledge to secure key information. We all knew the production plant is in China, right?
Now, if we combine the three points above, it’s not hard to imagine, yes Apple indeed plan for a redesign iPhone 5, but decide to delay because the white iPhone release too late.
My conclusion is:
• A redesign really exists, mean for iPhone 5 but decide to delay because the white iPhone is taking more time/resources than estimated.
• The reason to delay is to ‘wider’ gap between the white version and new design iPhone5 (now iPhone6)
• Another reason is to ensure white iPhone4 subscribers are able to upgrade when its releases. (none/previous iPhone users see note below)
• An enhance intermittent iPhone is therefore prepare and manufacture but cause the announcement to slip/delay by a few months.
• The last minute intermittent iPhone contain some features that’s mean for original iPhone but minus the important form design which in turn can help speedup manufacturing time.
• The focusing factor will be cloud and iOS5.
• Apple know from 3gs experience that this intermittent phone will sell (from Wikipedia)
“Reviews of the iPhone 3GS have been generally mixed to favorable. Walter Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal described the device packed with "new features that makes a great product even better, but for many users, the software may be enough of a boost to keep them from buying the new model."[12]”
• Most of existing iPhone4 group especially white subscribers are likely still within contract anyway .By the expiry date, new redesign iPhone will be about to release.
• Those previous or non-iPhone users might or not take up the intermittent phone but Apple strategies is to focus on software, iOS5 and cloud during launch to convince some to take up.
• Those do not due to form factor Apple is still pretty confirmation the delay new design are able to pull them back again next year. Apple is also prepare to reduce the impact from these groups by offering iPhone to more carriers
Lastly, I hope I‘m wrong because I too, love to see a new design iPhone5.
