Ordered at 7:53 Eastern time from Apple, and have the 10/5 'deliver by' date, and no change in the order status since the original order acknowledgement email. I did get the AT&T CSS email today at 11:24 thanking me for choosing AT&T.... Not sure that has anything to do with the Apple shipping progress, but it at least let me know that something is progressing.... Am traveling on the 5th in the afternoon, so hope I can negotiate with the shipping company if the 5th is actually the arrival date.

I keep seeing others getting this email but I haven't received any emails besides the processing one. I ordered from apple for AT&T..

What all does this email include?

My item status changed so that I can add a gift message...I didn't have that before and not sure if it's an indication that something is happening.

Basically it just rehashes the new contract that you signed when you purchased the phone, your plan, data choice etc.

I got my CSS on the 15th. still no movement on my phone, so the two arent related at all.

To all those who read this post,

Apple Inc. dropped the ball when they stated pre-orders to occur for 3am only to sell out in 30 minutes. It took the company three days to sell the supply they did in 30 minutes. It's hard to believe Apple would only produce the same number of iPhones they did at the launch of the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 is a larger product than Apple has ever dealt with. In July 2012, Apple sold less iPhones than in any quarter since the quarter that followed the introduction of the iPhone 4. At least 30-40 million people were holding off to get the new iPhone. Apple should have used this as a sign to either mass produce enough iPhone to please all or hold off for a late October launch.

...

Apple has done wrong and I hope they change the customer service in the future. Any thoughts?

I agree 100% with this portion of your post.

Thanks for the info.. Curious if it's because I checked out without using my apple id..

Oct. 5 delivery might be a blessing if you ordered a black model.

Another thread posted this picture. He said that this occurred after only 20 minutes of use. If this is widespread, I will definitely be switching to a white model soon.

Hmmm ya that's not cool. I'll have a case on mine to cover the edge but I was worried that the angled corners would do something like this.

Looks nasty, but there's no clue as to how it got scratched. And whoever it is it's not a regular customer since nobody got their shipment yet.

I'm not too bummed out that my phone will arive on the 5th of October since the delay is now pushed to 3-4 weeks after official launch (sucks for the late buyers). However, what bothers me a bit is that :apple: is fully aware of their "sold-out" phenomena year-after-year... Supply and demand, you say? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the demand is there, regardless of what the naysayers are promoting (especially the Fandriods), so why not have the supply ready for the insane demand before launching preorders? What, Apple's blown away by the unexpected demand? Really? C'mon now... Built-to-order method may save small companies money and associated risks, but we're talking about a tech giant with years of experience and enough cash to buy a country or countries for that matter...

Blah, at the end of the day, :apple: is still one of the best companies in the world.

Unfortunately having shortages is probably part of their brand strategy.

Having a 3-4 week wait for a cell phone gets in the news, which is free advertising and better advertising than anything they can put in a commercial, especially when it's due to "higher than expected demand." The factories can crank these phones out like nobody's business, so if they really wanted to keep up with the demand they could easily do so.

Remember how hard it was to get a Wii when it launched? It was a good year before those were readily available, and that system was all old technology, but everyone knew that there were Wii shortages so everyone wanted one.

The flip side to this argument is it's NOT free advertising when you factor in lost sales from iPhones you can sell now.

Apple wants to say they sold, huge, huge numbers so it's in their best interests to keep the supply chain going.

My wife just called. Her 32G phone that she ordered directly with ATT over the phone will arrive tomorrow. She orderd at 10:30am on the 21st. That's awesome. Curious why Apple couldn't make their own phones arrive like ATT could.

My Oct. 5 phone just went to "Preparing for Shipment" but I won't get my hopes up (too much) until I can find it via reference on UPS or FedEx.

Still Processing Items.

I'm upset since I expect to be out of town from October 5-9, so I wouldn't be able to get it until possibly the 10th. That is assuming that UPS doesn't just leave it at my front door like most items. And if they did, will it still be there when I get home?

Nice, glad to see something change. Now for my Oct 2nd delivery to update soon.

My delivery date was for Oct5th, still processing but charge to my Amex tonight.

Getting closer...

So you're at Processing and your card's been charged and I'm at Preparing for Shipment but no charge yet. That's just odd.

Mine also just went to preparing for shipment. I ordered a 32gb black AT&T phone through the apple store app about 11am PST on the 14th.

It now says the order can't be cancelled and still shows an Oct. 5 delivery.

Same. So it's looking like mid next week delivery...instead of October, not bad.
